A lot of people seem to be saying that there are no tactics involved in DA2, however I can't see where they're coming from. Unless, of course, they were still playing DA:O and forgot that DA2 ever existed. *Shrug*
There are tactics in this game, just not the same tactics in DA:O.
For example, you could go through the entirety of the first game with one man tanking and the others standing around tossing spells. This game doesn't allow for that. DA:O had a high emphasis on defense in that keeping your tank alive was the be-all/end-all of combat on the harder difficulties. Of course, you could just go through the game with three arcane warriors and do whatever you want because the game was a complete cake-walk like that, but I digress.
The point is that the game forced one to play defenisively. DA2 requires one to employ a large amount of offense.
For example, an encounter in the game forces you to fight (Spoiler Warning)
A group of mages and templars working together. The templars are engaging you in melee, or have bows and are shooting you. The mages are flicking fancy spells and AOEs around.
In order to defeat these enemies you need a balanced party with one of at least every class in your party.
Warriors have talents that help them engage entire mobs at a time. SwordnBoarders can tank the mobs while Two-Handers can cleave their way through the weaker enemies before hacking away at the mini-boss' health.
Rogues have talents that allow them to excel at taking down individual targets, while also allowing them to make use of the sabotage tree. The sabotage tree grants a rouge access to talents that are capable of stunning/disorienting entire mobs with a flask and a roundhouse kick.
Mages... well, they can support the party with heals/buffs and do tons of damage through AOEs. Sparky sparky boom flash anyone?
I don't know what everyone's play style is though, so I guess I can't comment on the game's tactics. Though I would like to know what tactics you've employed while playing the game.
