I've imported two games completed through Witch Hunt (killed the Architect, and Nathaniel lived with over 90 approval). Both times I got the Nathaniel quest. Both times the danged Architect bug made me wince. So, it doesn't matter whether the Architect lives or dies. The Nathaniel quest should happen. We'll see if it happens this time around.

I think part of the glitch is if you fully upgraded the keep and left Nate there while you save Amarathine. I had him at full friendship, keep upgraded, and spared the architect. No Nate quest on import. It seems the game assumed Nate died at the keep since he was there and I went to Amarathine. However, epilogue clearly said because of the keep upgrades Nate and Anders survived the siege.

If I remember correctly if you save Amaranthine instead of the Vigil everyone at the Vigil dies.  If you keep Nathaniel at the Vigil then he dies.  This shouldn't effect the outcome of the Architect either way except for the discussion to allow him to live or not.  The Wardens in Kirkwall could also be tracking the disciples of the Architect if you killed the Architect.

No, if you fully upgrade the Vigil then most of them live. Nathaniel lives and is counted a hero. Then depending on approval, either stays with the Grey Wardens or leaves. He can save the life of Fergus Cousland who in turn gives him back some of the lands of Amaranthine that Nathaniel gives to his nephew.

Oghren will lead a desperate defense agains like two ogres and passes out from blood loss but he also lives.

Velanna has part of a wall fall on her but they can't find a body.

I don't know the endings for the others as I usually took Anders, Justice and Sigrun with me.

The codex for each person you leave at the Keep will say they died.  That updates right after you hear about the Keep.

But a fully upgraded keep gives epilogues which indicate they live.

So, we have a conflict between the unreliable epilogues, and the unreliable codex entries.

I don't think I"ve ever asked for a dev response on these forums before. But I would get down on my knees and grovel. Or put on a dress and dance the Remigold - I'm a girl but I have no idea what the Remigold is so I'm sure it would worth some laughs.

Would be nice if a dev could comment on this.
I know they're busy with patches and all, but this is kind of an important issue for a lot of people.  A simple indication of whether the Architect needs to be alive for the Nate quest is all we really ask for right now.
And if you don't answer soon, poor Elessara needs to figure out the steps to a Thedas folk dance . . . Posted Image

Ah yes, I forgot about the Vigil's upgrades which cost me 80 gold.  How could I forget getting ripped off like that!  You are correct, thanks for the reminder.

See what you're putting this poor girl through???

Bioware devs, you have 24 hours to give us an answer, or Elessara here will be finding a dress, creating dance steps, and showing us all how to do the Remigold!!!

You also had to find the granite in Wending Wood, bring back a sample to the dwarf, and spare guards to defend the sample (during convo). I am not sure if the armor upgrades for the troops were necessary but I had all of those as well. If you find the silverite you get the epilogue that the Wardens were referred to as the silver order becuase of their silverite armor. If you fully upgraded then there is a line in the epilogue about the dwarf standing on the battlements and saying something like it is not that bad, the last compliment he would ever give Human architecture.

In all three of my Awakening play throughs, I killed the architect and chose Vigil's Keep over Amaranthine. And Nathanial was a friend. In my first DA 2 game I didn't get to see Nate. In my second one, I did. And he is looking for the architect...despite being very dead (unless he pulled an Anders' on us). So definitely a bug. Just glad I got to see him on my second play through... I liked Nate. And despite already having killed the architect multiple times, I was glad that Nate and the Wardens were looking for him. Hopefully to murder him for the fourth time.

Nate showing up has nothing to do with the Architect. Use a save editor to edit plot flags, and you will see it has nothing to do with it. Also, there's dialog for Nate talking about Architect being killed in the talktable.

If you have to edit plot flags on your own, doesn't that make it a bug?

Yes but erilben's point is that you do not have to have spared the Architect to have Nate show up and the bug is him not showing up if he survived if you left him at a fully upgraded Vigil while you went to save Amaranthine. Which is what some of us were asking.

I believe they're working on fixing the bug with Nathaniel not properly recognizing that the Architect is dead.

Can you link to where they discuss that?  Because I'm still not sure that him mentioning a dead Architect is the glitch . . I still think getting the quest with a dead Architect is the glitch.  And I haven't seen any comment from the devs on this at all . . . .

It is a bug; sparing the Architect isn't canon. It was mentioned by David Gaider. He said they were looking into it. If you remember importing the save from DA:O, it can reference the Architect being dead as one of the decisions made by the Warden; it's no different than DA2 not recognizing that Zevran is dead, which is also a bug.

I haven't seen the Gaider post you refer to - or any other dev comment on this issue.  That's why I asked for a link.

I do remember my import  summary screen referenced the Architect dead (as it should in my games).  But since I haven't seen the import screens of people who killed him, but have had Nathaniel mention he's alive, I can't say what happened in their games.

Without a quote, or other information, I don't know if Architect being alive is a requirement for the quest - since everyone seems to report Nate mentioning a living Architect (if they follow the dialogue paths enough, anyway) - or if there is an import glitch which makes DA2 think a dead Architect is alive.

Really, there are enough threads on this issue that a simple answer from a dev in any of them would be appreciated.

Thank you.

He's not perfectly clear on what the bug is, but I personally interpet it to mean the Architect need not be alive, and they're looking into why Nathaniel always says he is.

Fair enough - I'll keep an eye out for some updates.

np.

I interpret the post in the context of the thread's OP, which complains he killed the Architect while in DA2 Nath says he's alive.

I hope this also means they are looking into Nathaniel being assumed dead if you left him in a fully upgraded Vigil and went to save Amaranthine.

I know they handwaved the epilogues to be heresay and rumour but that seems to be stretching it a bit.
