After finishing dragon age 2 i was left with neither a feeling of satisfaction or disapointment. This was probably because i had only finished it championing the cause of the mages, so i loaded back and finished it supporting the templars. Yet again i was left with a feeling of confusion. The story i believe was extremely controversial (which is great) because it touched on so many controversial themes happening in our world today. Some people didnt like how controversial it was but they are entitled to their opinions but i must respectfully disagree, a game is boring unless some form of emotional or philisophical reaction is being instilled in the player. I must give praise to bioware for crafting such a great conflict between two different factions which im sure most players would have wrestled with the decision of who would they support (who didnt put down the controller when the final choice of which side to pick came?!!?".
However as believable/engrossing as this story is it unfortunately suffers from the boundaries of a crafted, linear body, a video game. The whole game before i realised that it would all boil down to templar vs mages conflict i supported the idea of circles and the templars. After witnessing the atrocities and vulnerability of mages i was determined to make sure mages were properly controlled as one character stated in the game, paraphrase: mages are people like everyone else except when their backed into a corner they have the ability to do so much worse.
However the further you go into the game you realise both sides have serious faults, not only because of meredith but the system itself was corrupt and dated. The rebellion led by thrask was a pure sign of what the new circle should be, templars fighting to protect and help mages, not murder/supress them. Unfortunately this rebellion just turned into a bloodbath because of the mage grace. Which leads me to the point of this rant (i apologise for letting the mind wander) The entire final conflict was like watching a slow moving train wreck and their was nothing you could do but choose the only two options in front of you, templar or mage. I cant wait for video games to develop to the stage that they are no longer an illusion of freedom because lets face it. No one wanted to kill all the mages or all the templars (well maybe not everyone

) but we had to make that choice because its just a video game with a linear path. If it was up to me i would have grabbed ahold of cullen and told him to man up and stand up to meredith or, kill meredith put cullen in charge or, kill meredith and orsino put myself in charge or, any number of other possible outcomes. But unfortunately games are not yet at that stage were roleplaying is true roleplaying, until we get to that point well done bioware for doing the best work with what is available to us, i eagerly await dragon age 3 and another other projects you develop (mass effect 3

) If any1 took the time to read this i would love to read your own musings/opinions on dragon age 2
