They are worth but you should be aware that the game experience of Mass Effect 1 & 2 is far from beeing as rich as for example Dragon Age Origins has been, the characters have a bit less deepness and there's also not an equipment system that is as complex as in DA (ME 1 has another quite annoying one though), but if your main concern is on story & gameplay, Mass Effect 1 & 2 are absolutely on the same Level with Dragon Age, and if you're more a fan of sci fi and quick progressing through a story, in that case yes, you don't need to do a second thought, they're totally worth it.

Absolutely worth it!
The Mass Effect series is really good. The gameplay is completely different than Dragon Age, so it's not going to be like playing what you've already played in another setting.
I particularly like the Squadmates you are given in Mass Effect.
I think if you enjoyed your time spent playing the Dragon Age games, then you're going to enjoy Mass Effect.

Mass Effect 1/2 is simply amazing, much better than DAO/DA2 in my opinion.

People who try to say that Mass Effect is "better" than Dragon Age or vice versa make me sick.  They're both Bioware's currently running franchises and I've all but stopped considering them to be two separate franchises. If you like the core formula behind Dragon Age: world changing decisions, gripping plot twists, and believable characters, then you'll be happy to find them just as abundantly in Mass Effect. The only big changes are the setting and the completely different style of gameplay, but Dragon Age II even brings the latter closer together. So unless you can ONLY use the controls for Dragon Age for some reason (Maybe your hands are paralyzed?) There's no reason Mass Effect will be any less enjoyable.

Additionally, if you end up enjoying both games make sure you get the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC. While all of the DLC has been excellent so far, this is my personal favorite.

Buy them now.

Mass Effect is on amazon right now for £5. Mass effect 2 is £10. It's ridiculous how cheap they are. Are these games worth £15? lol this question may be even an insult.

thanks a lot. i def gonna buy considering there both like 20 bucks total. Just to clarify, is the combat more like dragon age where u click where to shoot, or like call of duty where u need to move the cursor on the target to hit etc.

There really isn't much difference between the two tbh (especially with the change in combat to the 2nd DA)

The real difference is that Mass Effect is sci-fi and dragon age is fantasy

Yes. I haven't felt motivated to try DA yet because I wasn't keen on any of the trailers or the gameplay. Besides, for fantasy I prefer the elder scrolls titles.

Good sci-fi games are relatively few, between the numerous warfare and fantasy styles, and that is the main reason I play mass effect.

From my experience with the Mass Effect series, they play more like a
third person shooter. In essence, the gameplay is closer to games, such
as Gears of War, than Knights of the Old Republic.

Why do you come here asking for a review and how it plays when you can go to youtube and search: Mass Effect review?

Gamespot, IGN, Gametrailers and more places for great reviews!
