You'll see I asked that question in our UK boy's thread over there where you also voiced your concerns about being cornholed into bringing Wynne.

I think you mean pigeon-holed. I don't want ANYONE corn-holing me into doing anything.

Really?
Not even that smoking hot yid from weeds?

I was mentioning the fact that it was an all shaman team meaning the MT was a shaman. You do realize at 70 that it was very hard to generate enough threat to stay above the DPS with only 1 threat building ability that was on a 6 sec CD? I'm not dissing the complexity of 40man raiding but trying to have a mail wearing dps spec class, with little to no defensive talents, tank bosses that usually 1-shot all but plate wearers or those with high stamina is quite hard to accomplish.

To answer the thread title, I highly doubt it you will need to bring Wynne or be a spirit healer yourself on any difficulty level. Haven't played the game yet so can't say for sure, but I am sure Bioware have tested it in playthroughs without Wynne.

Nobody is forcing you to do anything.

If your idea of fun is finding the absolute easiest way of completing the game, then that's your prerogative.

It's not required. Sub-optimal, especially for the more advanced difficulty settings? Yes.

But it's supposed to be DIFFICULT. You don't have to powergame everything to the point where user input is moot.

Well then you might be even more impressed by the 5-man party from China that dropped Onyxia, Pre-BC, and Pre-Naxx. Now that's gotta be a painImage IPB

It also might be worth while to consider that party members may well decide you do not live up to their ideals. All this worrying about having to take the old bat along for heals is ignoring that unless you make the choices she agrees with she will try and turn you into a turnip. I certainly doubt the game only works one way.

Your premise is faulty; Wynne, Morrigan and two warriors work the best when you're trying to run through the game as quickly as possible killing as many enemies as possible. It's not that it will be near-impossible to complete without Wynne.

I donno. I would ask Team Spain about their thoughts on that one. :P Of course that was Normal. You would probably have no trouble at all without a healer on Easy.

Team spain relied COMPLETELY on healing items. That is to say, their Morrigan didn't even have a heal. Not only that they were very low on said items. I doubt Wynn will be required in anything but the higher difficulties.

In the dragon fight video, I think the character just chucked down healing potions instead of being healed by the mage.

Was Wynn even in that video? I don't remember. I remember the elimination with a Dragon, but I don't think Wynn was in that one, either. In fact, I think Wynn was just in one party during the elminations (I missed the last one, so I don't know for sure) That right there should prove that you don't NEED Wynn, especially since the eliminations were on Hard difficulty.

Yes, you are forced to take Wynne. And she is the only romance option for male or female characters. Finally, your local government authorities will show up shortly after you've ordered DA:O and tattoo "I luv Wynne" on your forehead for all to see. Image IPB

In all honesty, I don't plan to have her in all my groups. She seems cool and will likely be the best friend to a couple of my characters I plan on creating...but she'll likely get in conflicts with other characters. As long as you have potions and a mage that doesn't mind night nighting as an EMT, things will be fine. Oh, and don't do stupid things like send your rogue in first without armor.

I'm curious, why form any opinion on the healer matter until you have actually had real first hand experience. Or in the very least Seen the full extent off the choices available with Morrigan and Wynne. Which so far, as far as I know, only a few people would have at this time.

You can bring Wynne and kill her later if you really want too.

Smart play? Bottle necks? Finally a point to using rogue traps to minimise the original engagement so healing is not so "intensive"? Add in potions etc. I'm sure Morrigan will have potential for "nicer" i.e. healer and "worse" Blood Mage through dialogues and sexing her up. The power of the Sex makes characters in all Bioware games rethink the meaning of life and magically cange their nature! ^_^

You guys are forgetting that the team UK guys didn't use alchemy to make healing potions and it's possible that the warden's quest was modded to be more difficult as I remember the Giantbomb quick-look had a ton of potions. (Although that was an early chapter of the game)

Regardless, you could probably not have any healer at all as long as you carry a few potions and a few DPS characters so you can plough through enemies quickly.

One thing to remember about the WQ was that they were playing competitively. Is it optimum to have the best healer possible on harder difficulties? Maybe. Is it necessary? No.

We won't really know that until we play the game. Though the difficulty(or rather requirement) here smells like WoW-level.

Smells like WoW-level?  You mean it somehow seems like a casual-difficulty MMO?  WoW is crap and I hope to god that Dragon Age is nothing like it.

Yes, but I have a hard time seeing Morrigan getting cuddly with friendly spirits. About as likely as getting Sten to become a templar.

May I ask why?

Only one orge owns my heart, and her name is Morrigan. Image IPB

Though I suppose if Leliana suddenly transformed into an orge and had her way with me that would be cool also.

In my games, I always learn a couple healing spells and ditch the primary healer. I consider my own PC to be more reliable than an A.I. controlled party member. Even with the ability to give your characters specific directions (like Final Fantasy XII) I still found that it saved time if I took the time to learn a couple spells.

I like Wynne though, so maybe I'll end up taking her along.

well...i think it will be smart to have spedific healer in grp...but it will not be as hard as in wq becouse...firstly those guys barely used pause becouse there was time pressure to do as much dmg to win...they played on hard..and they played shortly so tbh i am doubting their skill...but i think all istakes they made were pretty much becouse of rushing and time pressure...

I asked this a week ago and was told that the party memberscan change their specialization, too. so you could make morrigan a spirit healer.
i dont know if thats confirmed though. otherwise, its really annoying to bring the old hag along.

How I perceive her at the moment. From wiki:
Becoming a spirit healer, however, is no simple matter. To gain the services of such benevolent and righteous beings requires that the mage earn their trust. Often this requires a series of trials to prove that the mage’s goals are as noble as the spirit demands, though some mages have claimed to command the compliance of such spirits through sheer force of charisma.

I don't see her as neither the noble, pure of heart or overly charismatic type. Might be wrong though.

As for Sten, I don't think he would convert from the Qun to the Maker, since he sees them as infidels.

If all specs are just, unlock and hand them out as you wish (to NPC:s) I'd be disappointed.
