Why Wynne is my favorite character (no spoilers)

Reading through these posts I am left with an amusing thought. A person's feelings about Wynne seems to me to tell ALOT about that person. Looking back over my life I've found that people who dislike/resist mentors like Wynne in their lives are often very negative people you would never let babysit your children (hehe), sometimes even "self hating" people who consider anyone who tells them they are valued or to aim high to be carefully avoided. Those that like/utilize them are generally quite happy/healthy/formidable/successful individuals who you'd love to "have your back" in a crisis. Go figure.
Thank you for Wynne, Bio. In a game fraught with moral bankruptsy, it's nice to have at least one "positive person" to give us a breather from the muck.

You're kidding, right? Because I find it generally a bad idea to make moral judgments about people based on their opinions of a fictional character as expressed through the wonders of the internets.Roelandtstorme wrote...

So, I'm going to conclude that you're joking. Ha ha!

Or you could just find it very interesting that people who like (sanctinomous) Wynne, are those who judge others based on their feelings on fictional characters
Which of course we wont do, since we aren't like that :innocent:

Wynne's "Quickwit McSmarty Pants" line ranks right up there with Alistair's "Princess Stabbity" line. Love it!

Okay here's one for you...Wynne reminds me of my grandmother, always poking her nose into stuff that really isn't her business, making judgement calls on people that aren't fair...BUT I loved her ( my grandmother) anyway.
My character treats Wynne with respect..and then goes off and does her own independent actions ANYWAY.
You don't have to be negative to reject someone's preaching...just have your own independent thoughts and courses of action.

I apologize, but I'm laughing a little inside. If Wynne is the pinnacle of goodness then there is something very wrong with the world! Really, the great thing about her character is the fact that she has so many hypocrisies inherent in her. If you haven't seen them then you've missed some things. Her advice is as biased as everyone else's, and simply because she sounds more certain of herself doesn't mean she's the all-knowing champion of justice you seem to think.
Great characters have flaws. Wynne has a *lot* of flaws, so she's definitely a really great character! But those of us who don't like her dislike her because her advice is not always meant in good spirits, and she is one of the most critical and spiteful characters in the game if you don't do exactly as she wants (even if what you're doing is not an evil act).
Feel free to like her, but like her for who she actually is, not for the idealized version you see. And understand a little more about the people who do dislike her instead of making assumptions. You seem to be a master of judging people at first glance; it's no wonder you like Wynne so much.

She has no sex appeal (unless you like older ladies!), which is something Morigan and Leliana have in spades
dude wynne is the finest woman in the party.
I took her to the urn of sacred ashes and when she undressed, I ****ed in my pants

Wynne reminds me of my Grandma. Fortunately I really like my grandma, even though I don't agree with everything she says, and the same is true of Wynne.
Plus her side story is really awesome if you're a mage.

Can you elaborate on her hypocrisies and flaws, or would that be too spoilerish for anyone who hasn't yet played thru all the Origins?
I was a Lawful Good Maker-believing male human noble warrior in my first playthru... so I probably never saw her bad side.

No she can't would be spoilerish. Come over to spoilerland. There you can either wade through 600 posts or so of Wynne hate in the Abominable Wynne thread, or just ask any of the regulars there and they'll be happy to fill you in
But as a hint, the most hate she will get from female city elves romancing a certain pointy eared mr. stabbity

You of course realize that the bodies for everyone of the same sex and race are identical? So Wynne has the exact same body as Anora, Lelianna and all the Chantry Prietesses.
and? do you not see that face?
I'd gladly give up a week with Morrigan for THAT

As mentioned I can't, though there is plenty in the spoiler forums. I will say, however, that you don't necessarily have to be a bad character to get on her bad side. You simply need to do something she disagrees with, which doesn't always mean she's right. And she can become very hostile very fast in those situations.
Once again, so people don't hate on me, I don't hate Wynne. But I think that idealizing her as a character isn't giving enough credit to the different dimensions about her. If you didn't stumble across any of the things that set her off, then I can understand. But you're missing out on really knowing who she is.

If Wynne was mine to give, you'd have yourself a deal.
Morrigan, a tropical island, 5 star summer resort, the cash to pay for anything she fancies and a week of no work and worries to enjoy this. Yeah, I';d give you Wynne and her spirit healing for that.
