Why all the Zevran hate?

A few people mentioned that they didn't like the Antonio Banderasy accent, but I just think of it as more Inigo Montoya from Princess Bride.
At first I was hell bent on a romance with Alistair, but i screwed it up because I don't take sweet compliments well. I was sad, so I went after Zev., mostly as a substitute, but then I grew so attached to him. He has my type of humor and even his bluntness with compliments made me feel more comfortable.
My second play through, I'm already with Alistair, but I can't shake the feeling that I'm betraying Zevran.
I say give Zevran a chance outside of just him being used for a bed buddy. There is more to him than the flirtiness.

I instantly killed him the second time around.
It is kind of a pity that I don't get to see how well written he is, but I can't help it - I just hate him.

Also, it was fun to kill him when he inevitable betrays you. The game didn't even give him yellow-title elite status, the bum.

Sten, for all of his sterness and calmness, is a much more interesting character.
The problem with Zev is, as an Asssassin, he isn't badass enough. Except for his best line: "The Antivan crows send their regards".

I see people complain a lot about Zev's humor and flirty behavior. Alistair uses humor to deflect, and that's exactly what Zev does with his flirty banter, yet people are much more accepting of Alistair's sarcasm.
If people actually played out the story with Zev, they'd see there's a lot beneath the surface. The guy grew up in a brothel, and was sold to a secret cult of assassins. Yes, he has issues, very deep issues. He doesn't really expect anyone to ever love him. If you do, he's surprised by it, and becomes much more serious with you.
Does he continue to flirt? Yes. But it's not serious. It's just Zev's way of keeping other people at a distance.
Does he sound like Antonio Banderas? Yes. Personally, I don't see that as a negative...
I saw him as the perfect compliment to my angry city elf, bitter over the past. His flirtations were annoying at first, but also slid underneath all her prickly defenses, much to her surprise.

I hated him so much I stripped him of all his gear, and that's without knowing the Denerim part

Zevran is definitely well-voiced, but as a character, I just hate him - a lot. I regret I didn't kill him as I had the chance on my 1st playthrough. He betrayed me and tried to kill me, again.

He plays a flawless psychopath.
There is no regret in that man's heart for anything, and he just doesn't care. He will manipulate you into any situation that fits his own personal desires.
That being said, he fits my "hit it and quit it" sexually-abused runaway city elf rogue's personality perfectly.

I planned to romance Zev with my next character but, dammit, she's falling for Alistair, too. *LOL* I finally decided to start a male character who CAN'T romance Alistair just so that I can finally see the romance with Zev play out. : )

He doesn't inevitably betray you.

And I've never had him in my party and thus haven't heard a single crack or opinion from him about my ongoing adventures since I don't want anymore rogues with me already being one. For my second play-thru however..

A good assassin shouldn't feel anything for his victims. Zevran says he has no regrets and he might be right in the sense that it brought him to where he is now. He also might just be saying that so he comes off more intimidating.
Sadly, in real life if I ran into someone who tried to kill me and failed, I doubt I would think twice about whether or not to end them.

I find he's quite an endearing character once you get to know him a little better. The romance was really well done too, imo. While I liked Alistair, that romance was so sweet it made my teeth hurt. Also very well done, but I personally lost interest in it rather fast.
Of course, I'm also biased towards the accent <3

I feel the same way you do. I was somewhat neutral but with emotions seeping into negative ones when you first encounter Zevran. Those quickly shifted nevertheless, when I actually got to speaking with him at camp and started to get closer to him.. Just wow, great job on writing him David Gaider .
And I've never had him in my party and thus haven't heard a single crack or opinion from him about my ongoing adventures since I don't want anymore rogues with me already being one. For my second play-thru however..
I'm playing a rogue as well, but I find having Zevran paired with a mage (either Wynne or morrigan, depending if I want healing or more combat oriented spells) and a tank (usually either Alistair or my dog), is quite an effective group.
And the banter is often really, really funny.

I was very disappointed that I could not matchmake for him. Alas. But I like the dude. He is so over the top. So loveable in an absolutely different way from Alistair. He reminds me of my best male friend to whom I can say anything because he won't take me seriously.

And you know what? He gets major, major bonus points just for the sequence of him and Oghren busting you out of Ft. Dakkon. (Zev: We're the famous bromo brothers! Guard: You don't look like brothers... Zev: Well, not identical twins, of course...Oghren: I'm the pretty one.)

Heh I may try it out. As I've recently found that I can manage without Morrigan's AE and CC when I replaced Oghren with her in the Deep Roads. My party would then consist of 2 DPS, Tank and a Healer - same as yours in one grouping.
