He doesn't have to love you.  I shut down the romance after a few dialogs because I was prusuing Alistair at the time, but stayed friendly with him, and he stayed loyal out of friendship.

i do not hate zevran, i even quite like his conversations ... but he is just useless as a rogue for me because he has no clue how to pick a lock -despite of his own claims- and does not know what a bow looks like. by the time i actually can consider him a real replacement for leliana my game will be finished :S.

I guess I should note that I do NOT hate Zevran. He actually surprised me with his persuasive arguments for why I should let him live after the ambush. I got him friendly enough that he refused to turn against me, but I think I missed large parts of his personal dialog. he was friendly, but still hid a part of himself in my first playthrough.

Anyone know in which quests you have the most chance to gain influence through quest decisions rather than gifts and dialog?

Game wise, I found he was fairly effective at being backstabbing dual wielder. I do agree that I wish he had some lock opening ability by default, because he SAYS he does, but he doesn't.

He likes precious metals, but not after they've been made into anything. Also he loves Antivan and Dalish leather. ;)

I had him all the way from when I picked him up to the bitter end and from what I noticed, he didn't disagree with anything I did quest wise. Sure he had some random lines about my decisions here and there but as I remember it he never gained/lost any from them. I think it has something to do with him swearing an oath to you and all. I mean he's going to follow you around regardless of how you act.

I can't say for certain though. I did a "good" playthrough though. Saving the tower, saving connor and isolde etc and I don't recall him losing/gaining any standing with him from quests. Only gifts/personal dialog.

He does pipe up saying that golems could be useful when you want to destroy the forge, but a decent persuasion skill makes him come over to your line of thinking with only a -1 in approval.

I started bringing him along with me when he was able to pick a lock that Leliana couldn't and he didn't even have the mastery yet.

I played as mage and had Wynne along for most of time so I could afford to "take care" of 2 melee easily and Zevran proved extremely useful with 2 enchanted daggers (or longsword/dagger), I've yet to find a proper use for Leliana though...

I haven't been able to truly impress him with any of my quest decisions tbh having played as kitten saver for most of time - but the only times he objected was with the golems - where you have a lovely chance for a hissy remark "Well maybe you can be the first one to be turned into golem then" and get away with -1 and I remember he also objected to siding with Harrowmont saying we shouldn't cooperate with someone who's afraid of his own shadow but I'm not sure if I got any approval hit from that.

The only other quest related converstaion I remember is about the Dalish - but that one was really tricky for me approval wise. Oh yeah and he disapproves fiercly whenever your decisions wrong the elves (eg siding with werewolves, letting Vaughan out of prison, taking that slaver's deal)

Really enjoyed having Zevran in the party, he had so many funny conversations with the other group NPCs, it made wandering around all the more enjoyable. Especially enjoyed the conversation he had with Oghren about Allistair...

Also thought he was very useful at higher levels, doing some nice damage, and he also had some useful skills too. I had him set-up to constantly stealth and then attack the enemy for critical hits, seemed to work quite nicely.

Zevran, for me, just came in too late to the party. I had already made a really good setup so, like Loghain, he's just hard to care about. Same thing happened on my first playthrough getting Oghren late in the game.

Agreed, except that I cared about them both deeply.  I found both Zev and Loghain to be two of the most interesting characters, and I was done with a lot of things by the time I got them, so I missed a lot of good banter.

Oh, the "crossing borders" banter with Alistair, Zev, and Shale is hilarious.

I mean not that the little bastard has a chance with me as I don't swing that way... but it's really cool to see how radically different you can alter your gameplay with the choices you make. Man Bioware is really winning me over again with this one.

You don't have to romance him for him to stick around. It's a matter of approval.

Ah got ya, thanks. A matter of having him at or above a certain rating, that makes sense. I guess we would be seeing a lot more hate if people were getting him to love them and still turning on them lol

Argh, I just got the him or me speech from Zevran. I didn't even know we had a thing in this play through. I was getting suspicious when I started talking to him and it gave me the "We need to end this." option. I was puzzled because I only flirted with him once. Apparently that's all it took to cement a relationship. I was even given the sleep in my tent option.

I got Zevran high enough where I'm confident he won't betray me and then he approaches me about my thing with Alistair. He mentions how it seems genuine and he doesn't want to get in between so I said ok, let's end it. -8. Of course I'm still shocked that I was in a relationship with him at all.

At least it's only -8. My husband got -22 from Leliana, when she confronted him about Morrigan and he didn't even have a thing with Leliana either.

Many Zevan is a decent rogue if he managed to spring a relationship on me without me even knowing it.

Same thing happened with Morrigan. I gave her enough bling, now I'm in a deep relationship according to the rest of the party.

And I avoided helping her warm up her tent.

"Why all the Zevran hate?"

He tried to murder me so I killed him. No questions asked, no qualms, no sympathy. Outside of the cutscene when he was hired, I never heard him speak a word. Scumbag like that deserves ALL the hate he gets.

I think it's up to certain dialogue options - same thing happened to me with Leliana and here I was thinking I was just being friendly...

Same with Alistair actually in the first playthrough - I never really used the "has anyone ever told you how handsome you are?" line and yet it disappeared after the first camping and I got the "We need to end this" option. Might be a bit bugged methinks.

Though with Zev you really need to set the rules of engagement if you don't want him to pursue you I guess

Pretty much. Although I guess that's pretty limited to not sleeping with him and telling him you're not interested. I found a lot of the dialog options can be rather touchy on whether you lose or gain approval, the gain ones usually being the flirty options.

Yup. I thought it was just harmless flirting, did it maybe twice and now we're dating. Lol. I avoided sleeping with him, because I figured then he would assume it's a relationship, but he still figured it was.

Oh well, I broke up with him and now all I need is the Dalish gloves to make it up to him.
