The lack of epilogue really ruined the ending for me

Even if some things end up being retconned in the future like what happened in the DA:O ending, it would be better than nothing.
I do get that the idea was to leave everything open for DA3, but the problem is, even if DA3 is a direct sequel, chances are about 75% of the DA2 plots won't ever be mentioned again. It's extremely unlikely it'll take place in Kirkwall again for starters. And let's not forget DA3 might even end up not being a direct sequel.
So, basically, unless there's a years 9-10 expansion pack planned or something, the majority of DA2 plotlines will not get any sort of conclusion... isn't that great?

No gameplay, just epilogues based on your choices. Wouldn't put it past EA.

While they may give a sense of fulfillment its better for the series in the future.

I mean, I'm all up for a somewhat open ending, but even with Hawke disappearing at the end, it would have been nice to at least know where the companions ended up, what happened in Kirkwall, what was the fate of the secondary characters like Feynriel or Gamlen, etc.

I can understand your feelings, but I've been thinking about the practicality of an epilogue in a narrative such as this and I just don't see it.
The problem with comparing this game with DA:O is that you have to consider the beginning of the story when you meet the Warden as ongoing as the present so it makes sense for us to see the what came after the Warden defeated the Blight. We have straight/ongoing ever moving narrative arc.
Dragon Age 2 is different in that the present becomes the ending. We are seeing the past (Hawke's past) as told through the eyes of Varric. You can't have an epilogue because there isn't an epilogue. Hawke essentially sets up what is to come, this major storm that pushes the Thedas to the brink of war. The disagreement can come from whether or not you like this set up, and of course, whether or not it's effective for you. I personally think it's an interesting storytelling device and I'm curious to see where it goes, but that's just me.
Anyways, that's how I see it.

I don't feel like an epilogue would have worked here. It felt very much like this was a beginning not an ending so to suddenly wrap it all up with what everyone went on and did....that would probably have been destroyed in the next game...seemed wrong. I wasn't a huge fan of the Origins ones, especially more so now that none of them seem to have any relevance. It didn't massively explain what happened to my companions, unless they stayed with me. They just...went their separate ways. Whoot!
You pretty much hit the nail on the head. While the endings are nice the do present problems for additional content (via sequals or DLC).
