Wait wait. Really? The GT would do OK for this?

Yes, probably same ballpark as the consoles.  You won't be able to use the high-res textures, of course, because of limited VRAM, but neither can consoles and you should run it decently.

Aurora wasn't built to let modern hardware do its best.  NWN2 ran faster for me than Wyvern Crown of Cormyr...

You're skills at explaining things to the hardware inept like myself are astounding. Three cheers.

Thanks for the thread! It holds some very useful information.

My Pentium D 3.0Ghz CPU is the only concern for me. I have 2GB of RAM and a nVidia 7800GT video card.

Well, considering I have an i7 920 CPU, 6GB DDR3 RAM, and an HD 4870, I will be very shocked if I can't get DA to work. :D

Athlon x2 5200+ @ 3.0Ghz, 2GB DDR2 800 RAM and a nVidia 8800GT 512MB, running Windows 7. Looks like I just made the recommended specs nicely.

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40/2.40 GHz, 6GB DDR3 Ram, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, 64bit Vista. With luck should be able to run everything at max. ^_^

Wouldn't count on it, gryphon. Your GPU isn't all that great. Rest is more than enough, but that can't make up for the GPU.

9600M ~= 9500GT, so probably not.  It'll run, though.

edit -- whoops, beaten to it.

thank you for this list. Even though it is unofficial, it answers a lot of questions especially for those of us who have laptops. :)

The system I put together last winter sits nicely in the recommended specs. But one thing the ATI people should keep in mind is that 3870 card benchmarks higher for gaming apps than the newer 4850. I checked that out throughly before making my purchase and would have needed the 4870 to get better numbers than the old 3870. The 4850 can do better blueray but not gaming.

Seeing this is making me think i should get the pc version now xD

Hopefully my 8600 GT will be able to run just as well as the console because i would so prefer to get this on pc.

Intel Core 2 E6600 2.4 GHz (To bad I had to pass up that I5 deal I had going -.-)
4GB DDR2 ram (can't remember how fast, but it was at the very top off the scale somewhere)
Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 1GB DDR5 (found this puppy on sale, just had to have it :P)

I'm guessing my slower memory and a tad antiquated CPU will probably hamper me from playing on max in at least some areas off the game. I really wish I hadn't missed the chance of getting a brand spanking new i5 on a p55 motherboard and with 4 GHz off 2000 MHz ram :/

You're fine with 4gb then.  You and I are in the same boat CPU-wise, with GPU power to spare.  I'm cautiously optimistic but we'll have to see what happens on the 3rd.

That would be 6th for me :/

The amusing thing is, my last graphics card was a 9800 GX2, which if memory serves, also fit the max category. Damn that netshop for offering a weekend discount on 4800 and 5800 cards that particular weekend that I was browsing to see the prices on the new 5800 cards. :P

you mention the 8800 as max which im wondering do you mean the new 8800 or the old...or both? since i have the original 8800gtx before the new model was released and was suprised to see 8800 as max since my computer is now 2 years old - so could you clarify which 8800 you meant ;p

I would guess the new 8800 for max, the old one for the other.

Ha, sorry, bad assumption.  You're better off with that power in the long run, believe me.  And you should be fine with the CPU - you're at the rec specs, and the devs got a pretty consistent 30 fps floor with an equivalent system.  I've got the Pentium D 3.2s, so I'm a bit more concerned about slowdown...that's certainly the worst-case scenario for you, I'd think.  Occasional dips below 30.  But you should be in pretty good shape.

The original 8800GTX was laughed at for being $600, but it turned out to be one of the best purchases in history:  even *three years later* you can still run new games at high settings.  It's a touch slower than the more recent GTS 512mb at lower resolutions but the monstrous memory bandwidth means it's still faster at 1080p and up.

Yeah, the GTX should max it out.
