I would wait a few months until next-gen Nvidia launches, or at least until Black Friday. A worthwhile upgrade for you would be something in the class of the 5770 -- for about 2/3 the current inflated price.

What about running two 9600s in SLI? Ive never run dual video cards before so I have no idea, and whenever Ive seen comparison charts for games its always single cards. Thats more out of curiosity, me upgrading my comp nets my GF a handmedown(lol) so its probably better for me to go for a single card in the long run.

Well, at least one poster was encouraged enough to start a thread on it here. :happy:Packetdancer wrote...
I could (sigh) be wrong but the main issue seems to be my terribad graphics card yes? The character creation tool runs, but quite slowly.
I know the 8200M is an integrated video card... if it can't run the game (though I'd be exstatic to be able to run it at the lowest possible settings) is there anyway for me to replace it or *somehow* use an external card?
Any help/advice/ or a simple/knowledgable "nope yer **cked" would be greatly appreciated!
You actually have one faint glimmer of hope. If I'm not wrong, your laptop *does* have an ExpressCard port. There is an external graphics solution for laptops called ViDock 2 which connects via the ExpressCard port and, via the PCIe channel that ExpressCard ports expose, provides an external Radeon 4670 with 512M of RAM. (That's the desktop form, not the laptop form.)
I've not tried that out myself, but I've read decent reviews of the first generation (ViDock Gfx) as used for graphics work on laptops. (I haven't read any gaming reviews, I admit, but you *are* connecting a Radeon 4670, which is hardly a shabby card.) However, they seem pretty darn hard to come by, and they're not cheap (around $300).
Whether that's sufficient hope or not...
Reading the Notebookreview forum thread has me somewhat less skeptical, though my first reaction is that $300 could get you a whole new desktop...

It's also faster than your SLI idea.

Very helpful topic, thanks Flem1. Mods should sticky this.
Looks like I survive yet another game without upgrading. Yay!

Geez, I'd never even heard this card existed before you mentioned it!Ailith430 wrote...
Would an Nvidia Geforce GTS240 hover somewhere between the high and max settings area?
Anyway, it's an overclocked 9800GT. So yeah, near or at max.

I have a Dell Dimension 9150 Pentium D 840 (3.2Gz) so my concern is being able to run the larger battles, but hopefully my computer will cope.

Currently I fit all the recommended requirements, other than the vid card, which is an 8800GTS 320mb.

I just have my overclocked 9800gt. It's my cpu I'm worried about. Sad little Core 2 Duo Conroe. Hopefully an i5 soon.

Yeah, 512mb 8800gts recommended, but i have no idea as to what resolution that is in regards to.

faster core clock speed, faster mem clock speed, better overclocking abillites and gddr4 vs gddr3 ram. That is why I wanted to give a headsup to anyone looking at mid range ati upgrades. The 3870 sells for 1/2 the price of a 4850 and is a better gaming card.AngelofDeth99 wrote...

The system I put together last winter sits nicely in the recommended specs. But one thing the ATI people should keep in mind is that 3870 card benchmarks higher for gaming apps than the newer 4850. I checked that out throughly before making my purchase and would have needed the 4870 to get better numbers than the old 3870. The 4850 can do better blueray but not gaming.
3870 is not faster than a 4850, don't know where you got that, but its not true. A 3870x2 is, but that is not a 3870.

Good article on Toms Hardware about how much video card ram is enough for various resolutions. I'd link it, but not sure of the policies here.
Basically to drive 1920x1200, you probably should be shopping in the 1 gig ram range.

I doubt this is a tricky game to run, but this reminds me of some giant list for oblivion specifying which cards and proccesors would run the game and at what settings.

Thanks, I was able to find that article. What would be an affordable card to go for in within that ram range?

Conroe too eh? Which one?
Budget? I'd say 4770, 4870 or 5xxx series. Not too sure on ATIs but they sure are bang for the buck. At least over here.

I'm running an Intel board. Worse decision ever. No overclocking whatsoever.
Minimum:
o OS: Windows Vista/7 (Does not support Windows XP)
o Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 / AMD Athlon64 X2 5600+
o Memory: 2GB
o Graphics: 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT / ATI Radeon HD 3870
o DirectX®: 10 (Does not support DirectX 9)
o Hard Drive: 1.5 GB
o Sound: Windows Vista compatible sound card
Recommended:

These are the system requirements for SHATTERED HORIZON. I thought DA had high expectations of our hardware...

I'm running on a Abit IP35 Pro, one hell of a mobo, it's unfortunate Abit stopped manufacturing mobos though.
Anyways, looks like I'll be hitting up my local Frys..

I'm running an Abit IP35 Pro aswell, and I do agree. It is a good motherboard.

I wouldn't splash the big bucks until I see the actual firsthand feedback on this. I mean, I think the 320 has too little RAM for max at 19*12, but it will certainly run the game fine. Waiting a week won't kill you.fooliecooly wrote...
