My specs are getting dated though, might upgrade at the very least my RAM and GPU soon. Perhaps I'll wait for the next batch of ATi or nVidia..
What a waste of money, could of taken a holiday!

Well, at least one poster was encouraged enough to start a thread on it here. :happy:Packetdancer wrote...
You actually have one faint glimmer of hope. If I'm not wrong, your laptop *does* have an ExpressCard port. There is an external graphics solution for laptops called ViDock 2 which connects via the ExpressCard port and, via the PCIe channel that ExpressCard ports expose, provides an external Radeon 4670 with 512M of RAM. (That's the desktop form, not the laptop form.)
Reading the Notebookreview forum thread has me somewhat less skeptical, though my first reaction is that $300 could get you a whole new desktop...
Actually, I'm glad to see that other thread and know that someone here has had good luck with the ViDock solutions. I'd read good stuff about them, but I'm always hesitant to recommend hardware I've only read about and not tried myself!
And yeah, $300 could buy you a new desktop, though not really the highest-end of machines.

y'know, I recall sometime back, maybe about a month or two ago when a dev mentioned that he managed to get medium settings on a 9200M, abeit at 800x600 resolution and getting about something like 15-20'ish fps. Your 9650M outperforms it by a large margin, and I reckon you can score a smooth 25+ fps on medium at around 1024x768 or even higher. I would not be surprised if you can score high or near max settings (so long as you tone down AA). Besides, since you are on a laptop, you do not need ultra high resolutions to run the game at.
That is sweet reading indeed, thank you for you answer! I did take my time to look around abit and found this discribtion
"The 9650M is a higher clocked 9500M GS and the successor of the 8700M GT (same chip but other spinning). Therefore, the performance should be on par with the 8700M GT."
Combined with what you say im confident that my laptop is going to cope with the game just fine
Thanks!

If it's a Dell, I think you could do either this 4670 or this low-power 9800GT. The latter is faster but uses a bit more power (not much, they're both still under 75W -- your 9400GT is 50W).Jackrabbit_Slim wrote...
@GhoXen
I have a 300w power supply. Its what came with my machine
If it's not a Dell, you could still probably use these cards, but might have more to worry about. There's also the 4650 which is about part with your current card wattage-wise, but is much faster (still significantly slower than the 4670 though, not to mention the 9800GT).
Might you offer up some suggestions for a new power supply and video card that will work with my machine? I don't want to say money is no object, but i don't mind spending a little more if i won't have to upgrade for a while.
I currently have a Dell Inspiron 518
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200@2.33GHZ
6GB of Ram
Vista 64-bit
300w power supply

It's part of the 9600M series. 32 shaders (desktop 9600GT has 64), 128-bit memory bus (desktop 9600GT has 256), but decently clocked. Medium, in other words.Beriks wrote...
So I'v been looking for any similar setups as mine, but none do totally fit my spec. My guess is that i should compare my Geforce 9650M with the 9600 series, but thats only by looking at the numbers so I might be way off target.

6GB of Ram
Vista 64-bit
300w power supply
Seasonic 500W - $70 shipped / Antec 650W - $80 shipped / Corsair 550W - $80 + shipping - $20 rebate
plus
Powercolor 5750 - $130 + shipping / XFX 4870 - $145 shipped / Gigabyte 5770 - $160 + shipping / XFX 5770 - $175 shipped
Speed-wise: 5750 < 4870 ~= 5770
4870 needs more power, and doesn't do DX11
Warranty-wise: Powercolor < Gigabyte < XFX
XFX has "double lifetime" so you can resell the card and transfer a lifetime warranty
If you *really* have the budget, the 5850 is a real step up for $270+. Hard to find in stock, however, and overkill for anything current.

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 2.10 GHz
2 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS
Vista 32 bit
If it runs at all, even on low settings, I'll be happy . . .

You should run fine on medium, maybe with occasional minor performance issues. Definitely on low with zero problems.

going from 1280X1024 to 1920x1080 is 50% more real estate. That's a big difference.

No... just no. Don't cheap out on the power supply, not for a few bucks. Would you put low-octane gas in your Ferrari? No. So don't mess around with a no-name PSU that doesn't even have active PFC.Jackrabbit_Slim wrote...

Now this is a deal, or this (that TP New is a *really* good unit) if you do rebates, or the XFX versions of these bundles. But seriously, no Diablotek PSU.

Looks like med-high settings for me, with higher end looking good but possibly running at an unacceptable framerate will have to see the game in action to tell most likely.
