So Carter became a Templar, which is actually awesome and useful to me, in terms of managing politics.  Also a good plot turn to have a mage-sympathizing Templar, and his awkward letter to Hawke at the beginning of Act 2 made me wibble a little bit.

So do I ever get him back into my party so I can bring him along on quests and reconcile this lost bro-ship?

My Carver became a Grey Warden.
Either way you loose him until the last battle. :CC
But then the bro-ship is reconciled and all is boss while you kick Meredith's ass.
