Just turn the damn thing to casual, that fight deserves it. What comes to potions, might be three but they were kryptonite.
From all the bad boss fights this was the most annoying one.
How many potions does the Arishok have?

How many potions does he have? Well, since we all ended up beating him, I'd say, "Not Enough."

I beat him, 1 hour on normal
I would not use my Dog, didnt want her to get hurt.
2 H Rouge
He's such an ass. Like 6 potions I think. Every time I got anywhere! And he gutted me so many times. I think I died like 50 times.
Its ok, next time I will use that protect life potion I found.
I could not disappoint my party because Fenris is a freaking PANSY, and wants me to kill him ALONE.
Ehh, someone Chivalrous in my party that was romanceable would have been great. :/

Run around in 8'es .. I hate that Duel ... now I have tried it with Force Mage, dual blade rogue and 2handed berserk warrior ... I had the longest battle with my rogue .. I died too much ..probably because it was the first play through. But I think he have some set of rules applied to his pot use ... but I haven't made it into a study yet ...

i beat him in 20 secs flat with my DW rogue on hard. A combustion grenade will stun him for a long ass time which is enough to unload massive damage on him, also decoy is helpful as well.
I mean people should really look at some of the consumables, combustion grenade with fell poison is I WIN!!!!!!

As a 2H warrior on Hard, the Arishok used 3 potions the first and third times I fought him. He killed me kind of fast the second time...
but yeah, every time he was around 20% health, he'd drink a damned potion and my hopes just evaporated... more whittling away at his health and using pommel strike. Fun. After the first time he killed me, I decided to just skip the duel, but got owned royally be the freaking sarabaas, so I went back to dueling. Thankfully, I held it together long enough to kill him. I had one potion left. I think that fear of having to replay that fight from the start kept me focused long enough to stick to my basic plan and win.
It's not fun at all, but at least it's over. For now. At least the Rock Wraith fight was exciting. This was just a chore to complete.

Killed him on normal with a mage and a 2 hander... and is one of the most, if not the most, forgetable and boring fights ever created. The idiotic impale followed by the yawning from my avatar, as he/she tried to stay a wake during one very long wack a mole fight (way to much MMO combat in this game). I absolutely adore the story and the companions, but found the combat or more specificly the number of potential builds to be rather poor (combat is nice and fast, however...) The fight with that old horn head, I hope is never repeated.

The imporant question here is where does he keep them.

That fight reminded me of those fights I had with the Elite Four in Pokemon.
I turned it to casual.

What's "fight without kiting"? Never heard of it.Does anyone win that fight without kiting for ages?

Just keep running around...he will tire quickly trying to catch you

Throw a combustion grenade just before he drinks a potion as it stuns him pretty badly. A rigged decoy works just as well if you are a rogue.

Very nice answer. Yes it definitely seemed like way to many with my warrior. He would pound the potions like a champ. I found out as a mage with spirit healer that kiting isn't even necessary. Especially if you max it out your pretty invincible. Dog was helpful though. I'm really worried about dueling him with my rogue though. I have a feeling the arishok is going to rip me a new one. Can't wait...

If he's a pain with downing potions, try the whole party.. He's a Wuss, even on Nightmare, when fighting the whole party.

I didn't Kite him at all. I did 'bullfight' him as a rogue though. Wait for him to comit to a charge then teleport behind him just before impact for the backstab. The fun parts was keeping one of the guards directly behind me so that he hit them instead. Very funny. I couldn't hit them during the duel but he could.
Was a relatively quick fight. I sped things up using damaging poisons (Qunari are extremely vulnurable to nature damage) and using Tar Grenades to mess with his movement speed. My Duelist gauntlet debuff took the rest of the wind out of his sails.
He used 2 potions during the battle, and I used one. Seemed fair to me.

What's really frustrating is when you're playing a character with low hitpoints. You whittle him down slowly, dancing behind him whenever he tries to strike, forcing him to use all his potions. Then, this happens

I turned down the difficulty after that.

He got 3 potions.
Dueling him on nightmare as a two handed warrior is the most fun and difficult sh** i played since PS1.
Best fight in the game for me.

I'm not wonderful at tactical combat in general (I try, I just...fail)
That fight wound up like a Benny Hill sketch as my warrior ran around waiting for healing potions to cooldown as he kept impaling me, I can't imagine playing it on Hard or Nightmare.

Not a fan of the fight, not gonna lie. Very tedious, and his impale ability is just stupid. It's not hard for him to auto-win with it, since impale can bring your hp so low, that in the time it takes you to get back up, he can get off another attack, and you're dead due to chance, not error.
Better than turning down the difficulty, use the insta-kill console command. Get on with your lives already.

I started a warrior and went through the game to act 3. When I fought this guy, I didn't stand a chance was a 2h warrior. At least the way I had my guy specced.
I got bored as a Warrior and decided to go through as a Mage. The funny thing is this fight was the only one I really prepared for. I really think you are not meant to fight this guy solo, other then to get the achievement. But Gravitic Rings makes him easy as hell as a mage. The spell is so OP that it kinda ruins all the boss fights in the game.
Gravity Ring vs the High Dragon is so funny, it actually will stop the Dragon from taking off and bug when it switchs phases. You can't target it when the adds come out, but its funny seeing the Dragon stuck half way in a wall.
The boss at the end of all the scrolls is such a joke everytime you cast the spell. It just stands there and does nothing. All you have to to is make sure you move when he casts his Area spell.
And the last boss... what a joke of a fight it was. I don't even think I had to heal at all, or use a Health Potion.
I wish the game was paced better. It really felt at act 3, it was rushed. And a lot justs drops off.

I don't even bother switching it to casual now. I just type in the killallhostiles command. Can I beat him? Sure. Do I want to spend a half hour fighting him? No.
