(Cross posted from Registered Member forum for those that don't forum hop)

Just a heads up that I received a very nice note from Amazon a few moments ago letting me know that they are aware of all of the DA2 issues and that they are offering full refunds (provided it was bought and fulfilled by them) within the first 30 days, even if opened.

Given that EA/Bioware has offered no timelines on when a patch will be available, nor what the contents of the patch will be, I'm going to take advantage of this (as it appears others in the PS3 forum are doing).

Just a heads up (and a reminder, given that you're closing in on 3 weeks if you preordered like I did).

I don't hate the game (in fact, I really wanted to like it and finish it); just can't deal with all the bugs + freezing, and, most especially, the poor communication from EA/Bioware on the issue. I'll consider picking up a new copy if/when enough of the issues are addressed.

My thanks to those who answered my gameplay questions, shared their freezing et al experiences, etc.

edit: typo, weird line breaks from copy & paste

Can you confirm that you have done this? I pre-ordered the Sig. Edition form Amazon. I, like you, tried hard to give it a fair shake, but it is broken. You can literally watch the game fall apart as you progress through the Acts.

Anyway, i didn't get this note from Amazon, so i was wondering if you could confirm that it can be returned with the seal broken.

Thanks

No note from Amazon for me, and I preordered the Bioware Signature edition from them. (Fortunately, I haven't had major issues with DA2.)

Yes, I can confirm that this is "real" (and a few other people confirmed that they were able to as well on the version of this thread in the Registered Member Forum -- link below).

Of note -- I clarified in the other post that Amazon did NOT reach out to me PROACTIVELY offering me a refund; I contacted them asking for an exception to the their stated policy (of refunds only on unopened s/w & games) and they immediately replied offering a full refund. I did not mean to imply that they had emailed everyone who bought it through them; just awkward wording on my side I guess.

Here's a link to the thread in the registered member forum, which includes the edit/clarification. Note that it got locked at some point today as some members started talking about things which Bioware considered to be non-DA2 related (totally their call on that obviously):

Amazon has just authorized my return as well. I've got it packed up and ready to drop off. I will report back when/if the refund is processed.

Edit: Thanks for clearing that up btw. ^^ The wording just made it seem like they reached out to you i guess.

Oooh- thanks for this. After I read it I contacted an Amazon rep (I use amazon.co.uk since I live in Japan, so I'm not sure if this will apply to everyone in US,CAN, MEX) and asked if sending it Fri would be timely enough to recieve a refund. They said "absolutely, as long as the package is postmarked within 30 days of original reciept of the product" and apologized for the inconvienience I experienced. So polite:) So, dear Bioware, I love your games, (and your writing, and all the countless hours of entertainment you've brought to my life) but if you don't give me, at the very least, a basic update on your current patch progress by Friday, I will be returning this game. I should also note that I was very surprised and disappointed by your lack of courtesy over these issues. I understand that you don't want to release a timeline and risk being flamed mercilessly if that timeline gets disrupted, but it's only good manners to give a small update on progress every now and again. It's been nearly twenty days since the slow bug was reported on these forums (for PS3 a least) and all we've gotten is a day one, one line response indicating that you know the problem exists and that you're working on it. It may seem inconsequential to you there- after all if your answer has to be basically the same three lines " We know, we're sorry, we're fixing it." why keep posting it? Well, you keep posting it because then fans who have been very loyal to your company for years and who were, indeed loyal enough to preorder your game, would not feel like they (we) are being ignored. It might seem childish, and I don't think any reasonable fan expects (or at least I really hope that they don't) massive amounts of public self flagellation, but simply hearing a sincere apology and continued confirmation that you are indeed still working on a solution would do a lot to allay the disappointment that I, at least, am feeling.  Just a little communication would go a long way in preventing me from returning your product.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! I've contacted everyone I can at Bioware about my game, and my inability to even finish it because of the glitches. And instead of getting replies, I've got... "We're looking into it." I'm returning my game. Thank you for this post.

Edit:  Would like to say that I just contacted Amazon.com, and told them my problem, and within an hour they sent me a message back saying that just this once they'd make an exception.  I'm gonna see if it posts to my bank account, and send it back.  if I get my money back, I encourage all the people who are having problems with their game to do the same.  Maybe EA/Bioware will get the message that crappy games won't be bought, and if they are purchased, they'll be returned.  I'm just mad that I can't return my 20 dollar guide book to this glitch-filled game.

@fibchopkin and @WhitePhoenix1986, I'm glad you found this info helpful!

(WhitePhoenix, my baby boy got to my DA2 "strategy" book and did a number on it, so I didn't try to return it. Will try to find some time to research options there. You might consider tossing it up on Amazon Marketplaces for someone else to buy off you directly.)

A friend of mine bought the game recently and beat it (she didn't even have ANY glitches with freezes or ANYTHING!  Pissed me off something fierce).  But now she's playing through to get all the loot, friends, and side quests.  So I gave her my copy to borrow.  She encouraged me to keep it, and reminded me that I might get DA2 later after the patches and everything have been made.  But thanks for the info and the offer.  I really, REALLY appreciate it.:D

Thanks eno for the heads up. I don't hate the game whatsoever but the many bugs frustrated me. I had e-mailed Amazon first before shipping the game off today just to make sure it was okay to return an opened SE with the codes already used. Here's hoping the return goes well and I do get my full refund.

I'll definitely buy DA2 again down the road when the game actually becomes playable. There's no point on holding onto a game I paid $60+ for when I'm seeing new copies being sold for $49.99 right now.

And a few hours later (didn't check email last night) my refund was processed (ccard etc redacted). Will hang in the forums trying to help people while waiting for the patch. Hopefully enough of the general + PS3 specific issues will be fixed to justify buying the game again.

Amazon refund hit my account yesterday (4/4/2011).

While I certainly don't want to -encourage- others to follow my path, just a reminder that today is 28 days since launch, leaving two days to avail yourself of a refund if your pre-ordered or bought on release day.

Fingers still crossed for a complete patch, including fixes for corrupted saves.

Any news on any other retailers offering a refund within 30 days? This should be a Manufacturer promoted return policy that should be available on the game's website or this forum until the patch is released for those of us who purchased without understanding that the full game would be unplayable once we get infected with the slow-motion Isabela STD.

I haven't heard anything. I think most retailers just use their normal return policy. I think Best Buy is 30 days. Gamestop will at least let you trade it, if nothing else.

As others have said in this forum, I wouldn't trade this to someone else to give them a dose of my frustration. I just want my money back at least until they release the long-awaited patch.

Others have reported successfully returning their copy to Gamestop for a full store credit (vs. a refund or lesser trade in).

Steam (PC digital download) and EA Store purchasers appear to be out of luck.

Don't recall hearing anything about Wal-mart (another big game seller).
