I feel like the game has received some undeserved bad rap, not as much as people are exaggerating it to be, but it has received some negative responses because of how far it varied from Origins. I think Bioware made some very smart moves in changing DA2. The flexible stylized art style, the faster paced more MMO-ish gameplay, the protagonist who actually spoke, the framed narrative story structure that covered much more ground, and the story of political intrigue (which had weak points but had just as many cinematic moments that tied well together) were all smart moves that will add longevity to the series in my opinion.
Honestly I feel that if DA2 had actually been the first entry in the series it would've received a higher average critical rating. Even if you didn't prefer the artistic changes to the series it was a technically tighter product outside of two bugs I can think of (DLC achievements, and DX11), but Origins had bugs too when it came out. I feel many people really missed the old school RPGs, and felt Dragon Age was going to be their "Baldur's Gate" fix after Origins released, but it's not it's an evolving franchise, and keeping it flexible it gives Bioware more options to expand the series (I get the feeling Bioware wouldn't mind making an MMO someday down the road set in Thedas, don't freak out too much from that analysis, just felt like they were thinking it.)
They certainly dropped a boatload of possible future plot threads on us throughout the game. The wardens that were passing through but saw a greater evil on the horizon, Flemeth's plans, and the whole "What is she!?" mystery, the circle's revolution, the chantry falling apart, the templar revolution, orlais and ferelden on the brink of war, anything to do with the imperium! There's so many fascinating places the series can go, and while I felt the story had some disappointments (I felt the relic (aka The One Ring!) was underplayed, and the final act was definitely the strongest, I wanted more of that!) it left me wanting to continue my adventures with my newfound friends.
Either way I'm very excited to continue the story, I like the mention in my game of how the Warden and Champion both disappearing was no coincidence, maybe one will be a companion in the next game, or some equivalent interaction if your warden lived. I do think it's going to Orlais, and I hope we find out what Flemeth, Morrigan, and the Divine's plans are in all of this. Overall I cannot wait to continue the champion's journey (with my saucy pirate captain at my side!), and maybe even continue the Wardens!
Either way very long post, loved the game, let me know your thoughts.,
