Bioware/EA must apologize for DA2 or else people will be hesitant to buy DA3.

EA nor Bioware has anything to apologize for. While I don't know the split, there are quite a few people who like DA2 (myself just for reference). In none of the previews I have read or when I played the demo, did I see BioWare make a promise to gamers. Nobody tried to mislead fans that the game would be Origins 2. So what do they have to apologize for?

I have yet to see any game company make an apology ever.

I am curious, just what gives you the idea you are entitled to an apology?

If a chef makes a soup with tainted meat which makes me vomit for days, I expect an apology from the restaurant and lots of kowtowing.

Seems to me that BioWare listens and reacts to the fans to give players what they want too easily at times. The very things that I have seen included in DA II are some of the same things fans have been clamoring for at various times.

New to the forums here. Can you give some examples?

"Please, Bioware, make all the LIs bi in DA2". Countless threads on that request alone.

Granted, I've avoided the big thread on this, but I have noticed two things re: this issue.

1. The main complaints seem to be in the area of FORCED same-sex romances at times. For example, when you first meet Anders you are presented with a choice of either initiating a same-sex relationship if you play a guy or getting rivalry points. I don't think this is what people who complained before had in mind.

Well, I don't know about you, but when a guy I like rejects my advances, I'll not feel all friendly towards him but feel hurt and upset. I'll deal with it in time, as does Anders.

Bioware has seemed pretty responsive to what the fans want in their games. But, I still believe the days of only catering to the PC market is over. Everything wasn't perfect with DA II but alot of the changes made were needed and the game was still great. Should they apologize for the decline of the PC market or making games that engage console players in response?

You can expect all you want. You still are not owed an apology for buying a game you didnt like.  It isnt Biowares fault you have an inflated sense of self entitlement.

they wont apologize for DA2 and i dont think doing that serves a purpose. also, you cant say in interviews that your game was a mistake and apologize to fans.

i do think bioware will use feedback and what not for DA3. its not like they have set a course and damn the consequences regarding DA2 as the future of the genre, whatever is being said is because they want to sell more copies of this game. the next game will integrate the strengths of DA2 into a more origins based framework

I know I was clamoring for the game to not work properly and break done completely in act 3 because I choose to have two particular companions in party - thanks DA II team for listening to my feedback, it's appreciated

Tainted meat makes all humans physically ill because of chemical reactions in their stomach

It isn't someones opinion that makes them puke from tainted meat becau-... Ya know what, nevermind, your comment already proved you're too inept to understand

It's not what they INCLUDED, but what they left out ...

- diverse, interesting levels
- fully equipping companions
- realistic combat (as realistic as fantasy combat can get ...)
- choices that really matter (concerning the outcome of the story) ... though I admit that there were a couple of interesting choices in DA2 - but I often had the feeling that my choice did not matter much.

etc ...

I agree and too add to this if Bioware had made DAO v2.0 the self same people complaining about DA 2 would be complaining about it being exactly the same.
I actually saw alot of similar threads on the old Mass Effect boards and the newer Mass Efffect 2 boards and look how successful those two games where.  Posted Image

It's like Bioware has slapped all their hardcore fans in the face, they owe us an apology otherwise even more gamers will leave the forums and stop buying Bioware games.

I don't think anyone had issue with the Bi if it actually made sense with their character. And they didn't punish you for not wanting to go that way, like they'd done with Anders.

I don't think you were really punished... They were just showing that Anders was upset. Rivalry can actually be considered a good thing in the game. However, you should have been given more options for turning him down; both for RP reasons and just reasons of immersion/realism. There are serveral ways to do this in real life and just giving you the one is frustrating.

DwarvenNoble86 wrote...

The way it is right now everyone is Bi because it's just easier to placate everyone that way. More options are always better.

This I actually agree on... It seems like it should be offensive to gays as much as straights that the characters can just switch their preferences at will. Saying it's just a choice has huge implications in real life....

The funniest part is, people give DA credit for being forward in regards to including gay companions... Yet, they haven't done so. There has not been a gay companion in a BW game since Juhanni in KoTOR. The gay relationships are just tacked on to the already straight ones.

'Hardcore' fans? What do you mean by that? Ones who buy anything with a BioWare label on it or those who are 'hardcore' RPG players? If it's the latter, then sniffing around BioWare for 'hardcore' games is a fool's errand.

The forums have done nothing but get busier and busier. More and more people sign up each hour. BioWare are also gaining sales with each new title, along with new customers. Any comments about them losing fans is complete BS as what's happening is the complete opposite - A positive trend, i.e. the increase in the number of BioWare 'fans'.

Never been to rpgcodex but if they are able to realise that Bioware has turned their back on the hardcore market and are voicing their complaints then they are my bros.

Why do i get the feeling that even if they did, you wouldn't be satisfied?

Well, I don't know about you, but when a guy I like rejects my advances, I'll not feel all friendly towards him but feel hurt and upset. I'll deal with it in time, as does Anders.

Typically how this is handled in many other conversations in games over the years is rather than:

1. Flirt/Love
2. Flirt/Love
3. Get the **** out of my face!

It's more like...

1. Flirt/Love
2. Gently move past this into non-romance related matters. (Let them down gently approach)
3. Get the **** out of my face!

So in a way this did feel kind of forced. You either show sexual interest or start out in a hole right from the very beginning with Anders.

That, I think, is where a lot of folks are coming from about the same-gender romances feeling a bit force-fed. There's no comparable situation with cross-gender romances where you MUST show sexual interest in the very first conversation or earn rivalry points.

I actually like that Bioware is so open with this and allows for so many romance options. It shows an admirably progressive attitude and inclusiveness towards fans from all backgrounds, but it should never feel forced upon you.

Bioware mustn't apologize and instead should grow a backbone. Tell the story you want and the features you want in. Since really, listening to a vocal minority has only enraged other vocal minorities. The same thing will happen for ME3 if they cave and listen to what a vocal minority demands instead of telling the story they want to tell.

I would be totally satisfied it would mean they acknowledge the direction they took was a mistake and they would do their best to make sure it never happens again.

No one wants another DA2, except maybe less than 1%. The rest of the 99% want DA3 to be done right.

I don't want another Dragon Age 2, just like I didn't want another Dragon Age: Origins. ^_^

You seem to be forgetting that not everyone doesn't like Dragon Age 2.

People on the internet complaining do not account for everyone who purchased the game.
