I actually don't think they did cater for certain market of fans of DA:Os, they have obviously changed the game to be more like ME2 and have more mass appeal. I admit this freely. What I was disagreeing with was that they ignored this community entirely, because I very much think they listened to what people said. I'm trying not to go into too many details here as this is a non-spoiler part of the forums, but the things I mentioned above were some of the topics that were brought up for what people wanted to see in the next DA game.

Unfortunely, they seemed to forget the things people actively liked in DA:O as well.

Ok, I would have to agree that they did accomodate many of the asthetic preferences.  Gameplay and the console development strategy though seemed to be on its own track long before the feedback came in.

You're probably right. I think they saw how well ME2 did and tried to make DA2 too much like it, and with the setting it doesn't work as well. Plus, the development time was surprisingly short, even with all the lore pre-established. DA:O was designed for the PC primarily, whereas this was obviously intented more for the console market. It is a shame that even Bioware are moving in that direction.

It's a shame because DA:O was a remarkable game, and felt fresh in a market that had been lacking for a while. I restarted DA:O twice straight after finishing, I adored it that much. I do like this game, but I can't love it.

OP - I'm already hesitant to buy DA3, if they patch DA2 so it doesn't bug out and have characters talking to/about things that don't exist anymore I'll be happy and if the DLC is great I might even preorder DA3. I'm not going to dismiss the entire developer for 1 bad game but I paid $109 for DA2 and will not be doing so with DA3 unless there are serious guarantees.

They need to apologise to their fans, it's the honourable thing to do when you know you made a huge mistake and disappointed your fans.

I'm on my sixth round now and I love it. Sure the same cave and so on can be a bit frustrated after awhile, but not so bad that I want to toss the game aside. The Isabela/Sebastian bug must have missed me. I have never had it. The only buggy thing I have is that Merrills quest is backwards and the quest were a bandit leader stands and look confused. And that annoying end text if you romanced more than one in act 2. I really need to stop chasing after everyone-^.
I love the voice acting, the fighting style and my companions. The weapons don't all look alike. I have founds some really cool looking ones. And this is the first game ever I have enjoyed playing as a mage. In DA:O was that a drag(for me) and I had to do it because I wanted all achievement^^. But maybe I'm a weird player, because I really like ME 2 too.
I can feel that it is somewhat short and I play throe it to fast, but instead I play more rounds as different characters=). I like the wheel and the blue/purple/red choices you have.
I will guard my copy of DA 2 with my life and I will buy the DLC if there is any to get later.
And I have played RPGs my whole life and I'm not a youngster anymore.
I only have one thing left to say.
Please Bioware fix the bugs asap and ty for a good game and many hours of fun.

They have no reason to apologize as long as there are people who like DA2. But I have to admit, it will be quite amusing to see them trash DA2 and their blatant mistakes while promoting DA3.

Oh, have you not heard? 75% of people who buy BioWare games get this strange condition where buy BioWare games no matter how bad, horrific, buggy or ugly they are.

So true, it will be some what hard for me to not buy the DLC for DAII even though it is the only way to make them reconsider their changes.

I'm not thinking a formal apology is needed, but I'd love to see some hinting that they're hearing and internalizing the feedback in the interviews I read.

When I read Laidlaw's interviews I come away with an overwhelming impression he's thinking, "The critics and gamers who don't like my game can go **** themselves. I'm rescuing their dying genre and (Arishok voice) THEY SHOULD BE GRATEFUL!"

Laidlaw doesn't seem to think he made any mistakes in making this game and his interviews all seem to say, "We made the right call, but people just don't get it. So we'll release another few games like this until they understand we're doing the right thing!"

While I understand you there, I also saw him saying that they are collecting fan feedback on the forums and from user reviews to work with. I do hope that's true and not an empty promise.

But they also said they were listening to fan feedback while making DA2 and talked people down who had concerns about everything being streamlined, so in other words they didnt listen at all, the only way they will listen is if they sell alot less copies, (which is happening), it wont even be in the top 10 on any platform next week.

Quote for great justice;

Great justice? I don't agree with demanding an apology or anything silly like that but that quote could hardly come off as more whiny, "don't attack my art, you just don't get it" bs I've seen.

Seems to me that BioWare listens and reacts to the fans to give players what they want too easily at times. The very things that I have seen included in DA II are some of the very same things fans have been clamoring for at various times.

I thought this too. I saw a lot of stuff while playing DA2 that I recognised as fan wants from reading these forums. From the voicing of the player character, through to the armour model designs and the freedom of the LI. Less clunky combat was wanted, prettier graphics. It felt like they'd designed it around everything the fans had issues with in DA:Os. They even took the dog out as a companion, but left you able to keep him around.

Perhaps the only two changes I could see that were actively disregarding fan wishes, was removing the isometric view from the PC version and being only able to play as a human.

Oh wow, that's a big big stretch. I'm sorry, I don't remember people wanting less party customization options, graphics are certainly not prettier at all, simply because design was console based rather than PC based like DA:O, and combat is not less clunky, it's just a sped up button mash fest with less tactical options due to the lack of a tactical camera (that nobody asked to be removed) and tactical positioning, all product of their "new combat philosophy" of having wave after wave, sometimes enemies materializing out of thin air on top of you.

I'm sure people didn't ask for their Baldur's Gate spiritual successor to be transformed into a generic ARPG with clunky combat. If anything Laidlaw has made it clear that he wanted to bring in what he thinks is the future of a (stagnating?) genre and franchise. There were poorly calculated changes, certainly, not product of player feedback.

Apologize? For what?

If a diner screws up my meal, I don't ask for an apology; I ask for my money back, or at least for some things to be stricken from the check, and will think twice about eating there again. If you played your cards right, you can get some or all of your money back - and nobody's holding a gun to your head and forcing you to play upcoming BioWare games.

You drama queens crack me up.

Heh this is not CD project, EA would never do this, well if they did it would be $19.95.

It's called a patch and they're working on it.

OP - I don't see BW/EA every apologizing for anything they've done. From what I've seen it seems that they wanted to reach out to the casual crowd as Mike Laidlaw has said repeatedly and DA2 does just that, and they are quite happy with the results. I most assuredly was not.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be both shocked and thrilled if BW/EA were to do *something*, but its pretty clear this is the direction they are going and see no reason to apologize for it, as it's "get aboard and get off the tracks we don't care which."

As I said before a few people with complaints do not account for all of the people who have purchased the game.

Bioware owes you nothing.

(Xbox360) Im on my second playthrough as a warrior. I played through the first time as a mage and i was immensley impressed with the combat of the mage which was something that i found lacking in origins. My only complaints for this game are some buggy jumping during a few of the dialog cut scenes, Afew times during my fight with the Arishok my mages staff disappeared during combat, The showdown in the chantry (Isabellas recruitment) the flames werent burning on the sconces they were just kinda floating there in mid air. During the fight with orisino the smaller half of the creature and Isabella fell off the edge if the platform and outta reach for a portion of the fight until thd demon merged back with the body. No auto attack! Games overall length was not as long as i think it could have been.
But All in all I loved the game the faster battle responce made it over the top. Great story line kept my attention the whole game. I love the fact that there is a save point after the end credits for DLC. I have enjoyed playing the dragon age series and i look forward to playing more in the future....

lol... A simple patch cant fix all the problems, missing content with this game.  And lol @ patches and bioware... DAO still have around 100 major bugs that are not fixed.

No offense intended, but if bioware/ea don't apologize for DA2 then people are going to think they will continue with this horrible mess and carry it into DA3.

No one wants another DA2, except maybe less than 1%. The rest of the 99% want DA3 to be done right.

You couldnt be more dead wrong. Its more like dont waste your time with DLC. Just get DA3 started. I enjoyed DA2, but there is no way ill buy the DLC unless i get the ulimate/ Game of the year edition that comes with the game and dlc.

They don't have to apologize. They NEVER advertized this game as Dragon Age: Origins 2.

I would say they have done so. Of course, expecting them to apologize is foolishness. I would just be happy if they address the concerns of fans in future installments of the franchise, be it an expansion or DA3.

We we ask for OTT animations? No.

Recycled Areas? No.

Did we ask to spend all of our time in kirkwall, a city that doesn't change ever? No.

Did we ask for Mass effect style convo wheel? No.

Did we ask for there to be no armor for our party members? No.

Did we ask for NPC enemys to appear out of thin Air? No.

Did we ask for exploding enemys? No.

Did we ask for a single human protagonist? No.

Did we ask for combat speed to be so fast that it looks completely unrealistic and makes for poor immersion? No we asked for faster combat, just faster and to remove shuffling, THATS IT.

Trying to pin this mess on the fans because its what we asked for? The nerve.

No actually there are quite a few people disatisfied with the game you are in the minority. Also they owe me and every other gamer here everything because our support pays their wages.

I don't care for an apology, just admit they failed their fanbase. They can apologise in the form of a decent 3rd game.
