Hey guys,
I understand that demi-liches (and some other creatures) require +4 weapons to damage. Now, I am not totally familiar with D&D rules and have a question.
In BG, when I attack a demi-lich with a weapon that is less than +4, I get the message tha my weapon is ineffective. Does a +4 enchanted weapon just improve my THAC0 by 4? Is that all it does? If all it does is improve my THAC0, couldn't other spells/abilites improve my THAC0 enough so that I can use a weapon that is less than +4 and still be effective?
I don't know if BG has its own rules or uses D&D rules, but either way, I don't quite get it. Are enchanted weapons just treated differently?
Thanks.

A enchanted weapon can raise your THAC0 damage and do other stuff, but the enchantment level, say +4 only determines what it can and cannot damage, this is a variable separated from THAC0 or damage, increasing them won't determine what you can harm with your weapon.
A higher enchantment level etc +1 +2 +3 usually means that it is a more powerful weapon, but it doesn't have to, the enchantment level only determines what you can damage, and you cannot improve it by improving THAC0 or damage.
As a rule, a weapon gives THAC0 and damage bonuses equal to the enchantment number.

Think of the legend of Arthur. Mordred's armor was impenetrable by any mortal weapon, but Excalibur could kill him.
