Dragon Age 2 is just like Mass Effect 2. So why did DA2 fail while ME2 succeeded?

Hardcore genre fans are stupid all around. Generally speaking of course, they're narrow minded and elitist.

I'm starting to realize this. I think as I've aged I've branched out

ROFL pat yourself on the back much?  Everyone is "stupid" who disagrees with you and doesnt like dumbed down games?

Sauce for the goose, Haexpane. If folks are going to go around using the "dumbed down" rhetoric, why shouldn't they get it right back?

Dragon Age 2 is a far better rpg then Mass Effect 2...
Even compared with the first game there are still a lot of options of building a character(and specialisation give far more options) and actually investment in more the one or two attributes makes sense instead of just pumping strenght for the twohander in the first game to name one example(the game even punished players who didnt do that on nightmare)
On higher difficulties there are still tactics and sometimes pausing required to suceed.
Dragon Age 2 also have something that didnt exist in Mass Effect 2,the so called "character-driven"
game: Party panter and party members who express their opinions even in sidequests.
Mass Effect 2 is so lackluster compared to that.

ME2 had a plot. Not having a clear plot is a blunder of such epic proportions for an RPG especially for a company that excelled at great storylines such as Bioware.

Huh? There's party chatter in ME2. Not as much as in DA2, I guess, but it's there.

Just like Dragon Age 2.And why Mass Effect had a bad plot(even some Mass Effect 2 fans agree on that) was discussed in other threads.
The story of Dragon Age 2 wasnt at least presented on a silvertablet right from the beginning of the game...

Almost zero. Two sentences at best in like 3-4 occasions.
Despite the weaker graphics Dragon Age companions felt far more "alive" then the alien and human pokemons in Mass Effect 2.

I don't think Dragon Age 2 failed. I think the problem they had was Dragon Age: Origins was more like a classic Bioware RPG like Neverwinter Nights while Mass Effect was a hybrid FPS/RPG like Star Wars the Old Republic. I think they tried to shoe-horn Dragon Age into Mass Effect's format and it created some problems.

Mass Effect was totally different then anything else from the start. So Mass Effect 2 worked because its predecessor was designed for that specific kind of hybrid format and ME2 just improved on it. While Dragon Age was being forced into something it wasn't originally designed for. So things got lost in the translation.

I'm sure you can understand the difference between saying GAMEPLAY has been dumbed down vs. calling PEOPLE stupid?

Apart from the conversation system I don't see how DA2 and ME2 are especially similar. ME2 is a shooter/RPG hybrid and DA2 is stat-driven RPG. I know a lot of people are confused by the change of difficulty in the default setting and the increased speed of combat, but it is the same system as DA:O.

ME2 completely disposed of the under the hood dice rolls of ME1, totally cut the inventory system and vastly simplified the character build system so that there's barely any customization in any given class.

DA2 retains all of those elements form DA:O, although it got rid of crafting skills and doesn't let you change teammates armor, those changes are far smaller than the changes from ME1 to ME2.

I think DA2 is getting a bad reaction on fan forums because a lot of the RPG fan base are exceptionally narrow-minded and given to kicking and screaming hyperbole. Sorry, but its the truth, flame away.

You just explained it.  DA2 and ME2 are not "the same" but they both had RPG features removed (streamlined/awesomed)

That is it in a nutshell.  When you remove RPG systems and replace them with ... well, nothing..., people who like RPG systems are left wondering.

Removing the ability to change armor on your companions is a major change in direction for DA.  The "reasons" given by bioware are the same "reasons" why JRPGs don't allow changing outfits.

Artist/Designer Ego is in the way.  Bioware has come flat out and said as much.  When they saw screenshots of DAO without Morrigan in her stripper robes, they were like NO U R PLAYIN MAI GMEA RONG!

ANd like JRPG game devs, they decided that letting the player do whatever they want must take a back seat to their B movie story and club kidz outfits.

The speed of combat + no iso + wave of enemies destroying preplanning totally changed the way I play DA.

ME played like a shooter in the first as well as in the second.

I thought the ME1 shooting was much more fun.   Had a unique RPG/Deus Ex feel to it.

ME2 is just cookie cutter cover shooting.
