Apart from the conversation system I don't see how DA2 and ME2 are especially similar. ME2 is a shooter/RPG hybrid and DA2 is stat-driven RPG. I know a lot of people are confused by the change of difficulty in the default setting and the increased speed of combat, but it is the same system as DA:O.
ME2 completely disposed of the under the hood dice rolls of ME1, totally cut the inventory system and vastly simplified the character build system so that there's barely any customization in any given class.
DA2 retains all of those elements form DA:O, although it got rid of crafting skills and doesn't let you change teammates armor, those changes are far smaller than the changes from ME1 to ME2.
I think DA2 is getting a bad reaction on fan forums because a lot of the RPG fan base are exceptionally narrow-minded and given to kicking and screaming hyperbole. Sorry, but its the truth, flame away.
You just explained it. DA2 and ME2 are not "the same" but they both had RPG features removed (streamlined/awesomed)
That is it in a nutshell. When you remove RPG systems and replace them with ... well, nothing..., people who like RPG systems are left wondering.
Removing the ability to change armor on your companions is a major change in direction for DA. The "reasons" given by bioware are the same "reasons" why JRPGs don't allow changing outfits.
Artist/Designer Ego is in the way. Bioware has come flat out and said as much. When they saw screenshots of DAO without Morrigan in her stripper robes, they were like NO U R PLAYIN MAI GMEA RONG!
ANd like JRPG game devs, they decided that letting the player do whatever they want must take a back seat to their B movie story and club kidz outfits.
