I haven't even played DAII yet but I already have a bad taste in my mouth. Sorry to rant a bit here, but I just want to vent some steam and maybe Bioware/EA will take note.
I've been a loyal fan for years...and for the right reasons - namely I love Bioware games, going back to the original Baldur's Gate, through to DA:O. So I jumped right away to pre-order DAII, early enough to get the free upgrade to the "Signature Edition".
Of course, when I finally picked up my copy on release day I was a little disappointed that I didn't even get any special packaging. I know that's not necessary, and it really was the in-game content I was looking for, but all the pics of the game when I pre-ordered showed different "exclusive" packaging.
What was really disappointing though was when I found out that none of the extra content, or the game soundtrack, were included with the game package. YEah, the annoying trend in the industry is to just issue codes to allow downloads of the bonus content, but that's still irritating.
But my irritation wouldn't end there. It turns out that the two codes the 2 codes that were emailed to me came with erroneous instructions on how to redeem them. And worst of all? They weren't even for the content that was SUPPOSED to come with the Signature Edition.
I went back to the retailer, who directed me to EA and Bioware. I then sat through a ridiculously long online chat with EA suport and had to jump through all sorts of irritating hoops like writing on the instruction manual that came with the game, taking a picture of it, and sending it to them.
I was told to unregister my game at social.bioware.com and re-register it using multiple different UPC codes. I was given various promo codes - some for redemption at the Bioware site, some for redemption at the Playstation store.
After many different attempts it appears that I have FINALLY gotten what I was entitled to in the first place. So I rush over to the forums here, and thought "why not post in the forum for Registered owners of the game"...
But it says I don't have permission to do that. Seriously? At the instruction of EA support I have in fact registered, then un-registered, then registered, un-registered, and finally registered again, DAII. But I guess that's not enough for Bioware to consider me a "Registered Owner".
Yeah, none of this has anything to do with the game itself - which I am trying to remain optimistic about despite the myriad of horror stories and complaints I'm reading - but man, it just really bugs the heck out of me. It used to be so simple. Buy the regular version of the game and that's all you got. Buy the Collector's version and you got some cool extras right in the box!!!
Now it's, buy the Signature version and you go insane for hours trying to get what you were supposed have in the first place! Just irritating...
OK, rant done. Let's hope the game is at least fun...
