 I finshed the game and in the end where Varric says that all the companions eventually had to leave the champion, except for Isabela of course, and was wondering why she is the one that stays. Is it that the game thinks she was the romantic interest or something else?

  In my game I had gotten to the point where Isabeal shows up to your room and had 'relations' with her, but then started a romance with Merrill to where she moved into the house. Even at the end of the game when you talk to all your companions Merrill was the one that said she loved me. However when I talked to Isabela the last time she had something to say, I did choose the option that it would be nice to go away with her on her ship. Just wondering what happened in other's games.

had same issue with multiple playthroughs at the end it seems the person you 1st choose a romantic option with is the one in the ending

Ah, if the game picks the first romance then I get what happened in my game. I romanced Isabela first then switched to Merill and Isabela ran away with the book and was never a party member for me again. But the end game with Varric has the same line which I thought odd as I never saw her again after late Act II.

Same here, my Hawke slept with Isabela but it was purely 'for fun', and moved onto Anders. Even became fugitives with him in the end. Somehow Isabela was the only one who stayed. = =;

I think I read that this is a bug. If you sleep with Isabella first it doesn't matter who you romance after that. Didn't experience it myself since my Hawke was with Fenris start to finish, but that's what I hear.

It's a bug, Varric says in mine that he left with Isabella and Merrill at the same time.

But no seriously it's a bug, one that should be fixed... cause I had Isabella's perk even though she got thrown in Qunari jail 3 years ago.
