Many of the elements in ME 2 are the same as in ME 1 but polished and more conscise

I really don't get the fascination over collecting hoards of useless equipment and rumaging through that for minutes.

Nor do I get the fascination of driving around in a crappy vechicle on empty planets.

Now I did love ME 1 but looking back I don't miss it at all, I acually played through it last week and the frustrations were endless. Not to mention I've never been so emotionally attached to a video game in ages as I've been with ME 2 and it's characters.

edit: For the record I did like Saren and Sovereign a hell of alot more than Harbinger. I hope they have a reaper far more intimidating, and with a voice similar to Sovereign.

As much as I loved ME2, I agree. There was a lot of things I missed about the first. So I really hope they can combine elements from both games.

Now that we have a great cast of characters hopefully we can work on a bigger main story for 3, like the first one had with some of that classic space opera feel, and some good squad interaction thrown in there.

Keep the intensity of places like Omega, but we can't forget the vastness and exploration of places like the Citadel Presidium.

Make sure there's a deeper villain than Harbinger. Saren was incredible and every one of his entrances were suspenseful. Sovereign genuinely scared me, while Harbinger, grew increasingly more annoying. (Though Lotsb managed to bring elements of a good antagonist back.)

Drop The Fanservice. ME1 had intelligent and formal wear, and it leads to a tasteful sex scene. ME2 has skin tight leather and high heels in the middle of space and firefights, and it leads to The Prize~ jokes, and dry humping. (not to undermine the Me2 relationships that I did find well done)

Need to remember the roots of the Paragon/renegade system too. Just because someone's renegade/evil doesn't mean they shouldn't have the ability to be charmingly manipulative.

And a balance between 1's and 2's inventory and exploration would be great.
Multiple weapons/upgrades but not as many as there were in Me1.
Keep the Hammerhead's smooth handling, but please, a little more armor.

Heh thanks, I started replaying ME1 just the other day, and it does cement some differences.
I always thought it was good for fans to be able to give constructive criticism, so I try to avoid ranting too much. 

You know, I think I miss the Alliance. The Chain of Command, the reporting in and hearing feedback on your missions,  and I've already mentioned having an armored squad. Guess I liked the formality. *shrug* 

May be odd but don't think gameplay is priority for me here. Course I am one of those nerds who'll tell you games can be art.^^  The games that stick with me are the ones that deal on an emotional level.
So even if they improve the combat incredibly, it'll be the story/atmosphere/characters that'll determine how I overall rate the next game. And I think Bioware's one of the few companies that respects those aspects of gaming.

As much as I loved ME2, I agree. There was a lot of things I missed about the first. So I really hope they can combine elements from both games.

Now that we have a great cast of characters hopefully we can work on a bigger main story for 3, like the first one had with some of that classic space opera feel, and some good squad interaction thrown in there.

Keep the intensity of places like Omega, but we can't forget the vastness and exploration of places like the Citadel Presidium.

Make sure there's a deeper villain than Harbinger. Saren was incredible and every one of his entrances were suspenseful. Sovereign genuinely scared me, while Harbinger, grew increasingly more annoying. (Though Lotsb managed to bring elements of a good antagonist back.)

Drop The Fanservice. ME1 had intelligent and formal wear, and it leads to a tasteful sex scene. ME2 has skin tight leather and high heels in the middle of space and firefights, and it leads to The Prize~ jokes, and dry humping. (not to undermine the Me2 relationships that I did find well done)

Need to remember the roots of the Paragon/renegade system too. Just because someone's renegade/evil doesn't mean they shouldn't have the ability to be charmingly manipulative.

And a balance between 1's and 2's inventory and exploration would be great.
Multiple weapons/upgrades but not as many as there were in Me1.
Keep the Hammerhead's smooth handling, but please, a little more armor.

Yeah I have to say the same thing for an RPG I think gameplay should come second.
I mean if I wanted to play a great fast paced 3rd person shooter I'll play Gears of war and if I want to play an amazing Sci-Fi adventure I'll play Mass effect so I really don't get why BioWare want ME to be both.

And to be honest when it comes to it ME both games combat systems aren't really on par with say Gears so I don't honestley see the point in trying tobe something it really isn't

Man after reading a few of these comments, I'm wondering if some of you guys are kidding or what. As a rpg/sci fi lover, mass effect was to be the perfect game for people like me. I remember the first article about it in Game Informer, and bought the xbox 360 just for it.
I loved me1, I loved the level up system, now I understand that some people wanted to experience that without all the complicated lvl up system, that's why there was auto lvl if you choose so. But going to ME2, man I was astonished at the action, the shooting was perfect, part of me missed the planet exploration, but part of me didn't. I would like the option back to explore if I like, but not for main missions. One of the things that bothered me the most about ME2, I don't feel that games like this should go from one mission to another. It's space, man! I want to explore. This is the very first time, in a game I'm able to be in space and feel like I'm actually in the future, let me see and feel like I'm on another planets, and explore space. Also, I ran out of things to kill in ME2, how is that possible, when you have a WHOLE galaxy to explore?
I like the action tho in Me2, but just want some more of a rpg feel. As far as in, more clothing/armor options (without spending extra money for them) and more level up options. Don't take away skills, guys, put some more in. Also, comeone, level 30 max lvl? What's with these american rpgs, are we so against leveling up? Agh, it doesnt matter what I feel, or think, or believe. I'm just ONE gamer, ONE guy who has had the same passion, and..some say hobby, I say it's a way of life, for over 20 years, I just wish we could be heard more.

I know what you mean I have been really wowed by BioWare's more recent combat in games but when it comes to
plot and exploration not so much.
And I agree BioWare has made one of the best Sci-Fi galaxys of all time but they didn't really take full advantege of that with ME2

Mass Effect 2 really felt like just a filler than an actual addition to the overall storyline. Bioware could have made the Collectors more threatening. And sure, the harvesting of humans to grind them up into organic goo to fuel a human reaper is pretty dark, but when you think about it, what's the point? Why make a human reaper? The Reapers could have used the Collectors in so many other ways. For instance, why not use them to attack the Citadel and then do what Saren failed to do? Overall, if you eliminate the fact the Collectors were used solely for human harvesting, there is actually really no point to the Collectors themselves. But ME2 had combat down for it, that's for sure. But as far as story goes, ME2 just seems....irrelevant to the overall Mass Effect plotline. I mean...honestly...why kill Shepard if you intend to bring him back less than ten minutes later (in real time)? Sure, being apart from the Alliance and the Council is interesting, but why have Shepard side with Cerberus? I understand that the Alliance and the Council were denying the Reapers' existence, and quite possibly in denial about it...but why not just have Shepard deal with it on his own? The Council has previously said that if Shepard feels it is necessary to protect the galaxy, he needs to do so.

But whatever. I'm just rambling now. My opinion: ME2 could have been a lot better. Mass Effect 2 is a good game and all, and it has a lot of strong points, but I think ME1 is just an overall better game.

Thats one of the problems I have with ME2 aswell it was all

BioWare employee 1: "Hey Mass effect is the fastest selling RPG on the XBOX 360 and we've got critical aclaim of over 90%!"
BioWare employee 2: "That's brilliant so yet again we've made one of the best RPGs of all time! But you know what would make ME2 even better than the first ?"
B employee 1: "What ?"
B employee 2: "How about drasticlly changing the style of Sci-Fi that ME1 is iconic for, taking away core parts of ME1 like exploration, inventory and more! Oh and we could force the player to work with a terroist organisation and change previous character's personallitys or reduce them to 3 minute long cameos!"
B employee 1: "WTF are you on about ?"

Sorry not hating on ME2 as I've said before I love ME2. I'm just sayin the desighn choices are ummmmm a little less than logical.

I miss a kinda open world experience we had in ME1...
I mean, while some of the missions in ME1 had "mission corridors", there were a lot of times where you could go anywhere, such as the MAKO side missions.
I really liked travelling with the mako AROUND a base full of geth and attack from behind, retreat and then flank with the MAKO to the front. You could get out of the mako, walk around, meet a shifty looking space-cow...

ME2 felt more like it had mostly closed corridor missions (hardly any open terrain).

Yeah it wasn't perfect but I still loved ME1's exploration

Overall I prefer ME2. Just going back to the first feels like a chore. There's no real variety in ME1 and the environments are still corridors. It was way too bogged down, that now that I think about it I'm surprised I gave ME2 a chance.
