ME2 is a fantastic game...technically it's superior...but the open feel of the citadel and main planets, the scope of the vision, the score, the lore, ME1 has been my number one game since that first play...*wipes tear*

Yup there are truly few games that make you say "Holy sh*t this is amazing" years later. Maybe it's because in terms
of ME1's atmosphere as few games have that really deep Sci-Fi lore and and and truly techno Sci-Fi

Actually I think all of the menus look great in ME1 what with that futuristic blue tone......

No, Mass Effect 2 was better than 1 overall. Less bull**** to wade through to be sure.
Hmm true ME1 was flawed but still this thread is about what we miss from ME1 not why ME1 or ME2 is superior.

Yeah. Thats it I think. From the opening dialgoue and slow thumping music...
Hell maybe it's the blue on black colour scheme instead of the red / gold / black...the "Welcome to Alliance Millitary Headquarters " in that official but smooth talking female voice...
Its got atmosphere dripping from it's atmosphere.

One of the things I loved was the game truly used exploration and the entire galaxy unlike a lot of other games.
Oh and that blue on black color used in the game truly made it feel like I was standing a 100 or so years in the future
Edit: And this just goes to show how amazing ME1's atmosphere is

I miss the feeling that I'm on a Planet and not on a Level when doing a mission.
I miss the magnitude of the plot and the 'verse.
I miss the asari who were the only species capable of mating with other species - making them unique.
I miss the 'high sci-fi' atmosphere
I miss squadmates who are polarizing persons, not tropes.
Hell, I miss a lot of things.
While I found Mass Effect 2 to be a better game, I label Mass Effect 1 as the better experience.

In particular what you said about the "High Sci-Fi" why does every Sci-Fi game have to be "Lets make it as dark as possible and have melting people and sh*t"?
And about ME1 being a better experience I defenitly agree with that.

Both are great in their genre, but it's clear which I find more grandiose.

Yeah, to sum up my impression, ME1 felt like a science fiction novel by Alastair Reynolds (who I can only recommend, excellent stories in rich, deep worlds) while ME2 felt like a cyberpunk short novel by William Gibson.

I miss Sovereign. Why did you kill off the best thing you have ever created Bioware? Why the **** would someone do that? And why did you replace it with a complete tool?
He is not dead you know, he will return. As will everyone. They are Legion. This exchange is over.
All heil Sovereign. Our leader and God.

Oh, wait... Have I said that already? Allright, then I miss the LONG RANGE COMBAT:

And the ability to take a souvenier picture with a freshly killed Geth Armature (that DOESN'T MAGICALLY DISAPPEAR):

But most of all, I mis the ABSOLUTE MIND-BLOWING EPICNESS of ME1:

Oh man Nostalgia bomb. Me and my friend played the battle of the Citadel together, and we were so emotionally gripped the whole way. Like panicking when you're racing to the Citadel in the Mako. lol
Watching one of our greatest enemies fall back shattering a wall of glass..
And when Shepard rose up from the wreckage with the music picking up. Truly epic.
