Im right there with you. This thread would of made me play ME again if i wasnt already playing it.. people always tend to complain about the mako but there is nothing wrong with it, the planets were the problem. but that said the sweeping vistas of some of them took my breath and still do, the citadel feels huge thanks in part to the elevators, the decontamination procedure gave the game a special touch, the combat felt epic and long range and the exploration.Yet for all of this I still like ME2, its a different beast, a compressed mass effect where they have tried to distill the best parts of ME.
this compression , this distilation.. this is what concerns me for ME3

It's funny isn't it that some of the weakest or poorley implemented features(But still good) aspects of ME1 (Combat, Repetitive locations Etc) are some of ME2's best feautures.nikki191 wrote...

And about that I have a lot higher hopes for ME3 in terms of exploration as the basic plot sounds like DA:O in space.

There is an ice planet..covered in snow..with a snow storm blazing across the plains...the sun barely pushing through. Driving the Mako through it to me is one of the most amazing moments in a game. Indeed, there was a lot of cookie cutting, but every time I hit something like that theres this moment of ' I'm in a game, I just flew to this random world, dropped the Mako..and now I can go anywhere..' it's a feeling that I have not gotten with any other game. Before OR after.
It was seamless...Loading screens are a huge step back in my mind. The fact you run through the entire citadel from the Normandy, through the wards, to the council chambers and back to the ambassador rooms, it was great. The opinions of different characters at various places. The decom into the Normandy was awesome, the little 'XO Pressley is relieved'. There was all these little things that made it feel grand.the citadel feels huge thanks in part to the elevators, the decontamination procedure gave the game a special touch..
The Krogan..those damn Krogan. They were scary. They'd hit the ground and regen, my shotgun had overheated, one squad already down, unity still on cooldown...the battles were awesome. Yeah the shooter mechanics themselves are technically better in ME2, but they don't have that urgency or feel they did in ME1.the combat felt epic and long range and the exploration.
Yet for all of this I still like ME2, its a different beast, a compressed mass effect where they have tried to distill the best parts of ME.

Definitely. I love ME2, but you're right. It is different, and I hope they don't push it further in THAT direction..
But yeah...like you and others...concerned.

Just makes you think, the environments for the main missions on ME1 are jus so beautiful, yet all the environments for assignments are so dull. Ironically, main mission environments are so dull on ME2 (discounting Shadow Broker), yet the environments for assignments are stunning. Hell, basically everything they got wrong in ME1 they got right in ME2, but everything they had right in ME1 they got wrong in ME2.

Vigil is one of the best parts of ME1. His story about the Reapers invasion...is just chilling.

Mass Effect 1 was great, but it wasn't THAT great. If i just wanted to do another playthrough for ME2, and i wanted a completionist run, I would have to spend DAYS, maybe WEEKS, just so i can see the effects of my choices in ME2.
I hated having to explore every planet just for minerals. And the f***ed up part is you didn't know what planets are already explored, unlike ME2. So i would spend 50 hours exploring the planet I explored 2 days ago
GAH, it infuriated me to no end

Except for the fact that-
A. Mineral grabbing in ME1 is optional and not tied to anything
B. Knowing which planets you've already landed on makes the universe feel a lot smaller
I hate that about ME2. The whole percentage thing.
Once you've 100% the galaxy, that's it. You've seen everything.
If there's no percentage telling you how much you've been to, it feels like its ever so open. Like maybe there's somewhere you haven't been to. With a sweeping vista and a beautiful backdrop, with stars in the sky and multi colored moons.
ME1's atmosphere destroys ME2's.

Your costumisation

Your godly music
I know I can play ME1 when ever I want but still as much as I love ME2 it's a shame to have seen so much of what made the first game great gone in ME2
Don't get me wrong I love ME2 and I am thoroughly impressed with the amazing job BioWare did with the game
But whilst BioWare improved the combat, tweaked the graphics and more I feel as if BioWare should have been more faithfull to the first game
And if you want your nostalgai vision magnified try this:
masseffect.bioware.com/me1/index.html
So hopefully ME3 will just have a few more of the elements of ME1
So I this is a thread for disscussing what we would like from ME1 to return
TL;DR Just read the last sentence
Edit: I have now created a group for people who miss ME1 here it is:
social.bioware.com/group/4077/#group
I don't get how this is even a polarizing topic. I didn't find Mass Effect 2 to be a big departure from the first. I thought they streamlined some things and got rid of some clutter but other than massively improved graphics and inexplicably getting rid of the ability to crouch (fail), I didn't experience any culture shock with the new game.
Don't understand the angst.

Your costumisation
Having 1000 of the same item does not count as customization. ME2 had better customization, although still way too limited, solely because different equipment actually did different things, now if only we could customize our party members and they gave double what we currently have it would be great.
Your deep and twisting plot
I don't understand why ME1 gets praised for it's plot, the journey is fun and has that nice cliche 1980s sci-fi feel to it but the story itself is a generic cookie cutter. The entire game design is ripped right from KOTOR, 4 plot worlds, 1 of the plot worlds is run by corporations, 1 of the plot worlds is deep in enemy territory, the final plot world is an ancient forgotten world that was/is populated by an ancient race. Plot resolves around saving the galaxy. Saren and Sovvy are just Malak split, Saren is the human side of Malak who feels bad about what he did and Sovvy is the "RAWR I'm god and unbeatable, you suck, I'm better than you, I'm a cliche villain RAWR"
ME1's plot would be deep and twisting if everything up to Virmire was about you stopping Saren and the Reapers were a out of left field thing but nope from Eden Prime on it's always either stop Saren from bringing back the Reapers or stop the Reapers.

About costumisation at least in ME1 you acttuallly had armor for your squad instead of rubber cat suits. Also when ever I complete ME1 my squad mates always look very different unlike in ME2 as there is no customisation for your squadBamboozalist wrote...
