Hey dude, speak for yourself, I always found plenty.

I don't get why people hated the Mako sequences. I loved the thrill of finding something new on an alien landscape, even if it turned out to be a small cache of minerals or a couple of corpses.

I think for most it was fine on the first playthrough. However, it didn't hold up as well on multiple playthroughs-- seeing the same rocky terrain over and over again, fighting to climb mountains, etc. I really enjoyed the Mako sequences in the first game, but didn't really want to have to go back and search through the whole area again while fighting the terrain, usually for gear you didn't need. And I'm sure once the mineral gathering quest was over, people stopped looking for nodes. That's why I'd prefer it if they go with the Hammerhead in ME3-- bring back the Mako like exploration sequences, but use the infinitely more maneuverable hover vehicle to do it. It would make exploring much more fun.

First off, great thread and group!

Off the top of my head - What I miss from ME1?

1.The sleek, smexy retro armour designs. And the ability suit up my squad and not just my Shep with them
2. The slightly more distinctive (less generic) aesthetics
3. Loot!
4. Inventory
5. Skill choice
6. Character progression
7. Exploration
8. The Mako (Yeah it sometimes a pain in the ass, but I wanted improvements not liquidation.)
9. Weapons and Armour customisation
10. The music
11. More mature story and writing
12. Elevator loading

I'd love to be able to choose squaddie armor again.
I love ME2, but I think we just need more of those moments that stick with you. The ones that made ME1 a game I can play again and again. More Oooooh moments:

More Awwww moments:

More Oh Sh*t moments:

I don't care what they do to combat as long as we have an awesome atmosphere and good writing this time around.

Nice pics! I did also find ME2 to be lacking in.....epic moments (Excluding the Suicide mission).
I get the feeling ME3 will be more epic.
Oh and nice FemShep......I seem to suck with the charcter creator......

Yeah same here. I can make some good characters on DA:O or DA2 though.......it would be nice if BioWare updated the character creator......

I found the face creator easier in ME1 to see what I was doing... though the lighting wasn't helpful so often the face would look different in game (especially in a Hackett briefing - those are the true face-tests).
Took me 3 maybe 4 attempts to create my Vanguard's face, and I thought that was bad enough, lol... but 10?!
Damn that's perseverance.

It would be nice to see a better face-maker with a way to adjust lighting and see all the angles around the head, but there are bigger issues that should come first.

Yeah I love Bioware and all but that's probably one of the dumbest desicions they've ever made.
Replacing a important but flawed part of the orignal with something 5x worse.....
Guess it never occured to them they could just make vehicle exploration better......

The UNC missions from Mass Effect(1) should definitely return in Mass Effect 3. The exploration of the vast worlds, gathering resources, discovering a pirate outpost, combating threser maws, and discover hidden mysteries. There were also many interesting sidequests such as the Legion of One, and Matriach Dilinnaga's writtings.

Man I love your list too!!!!
It is incredible how many things and they have cut from ME1 !!!
We can easily say that ME2 has very little in common with ME1. I said many time.. to me ME2 it is just an action spin-off!!!
Just immagine ME2 with all the points in your list featured!
And maybe MAJOR EMPHASIS on the DECISIONS aspect...
My god, the game of the century....

EA and Bioware are still capable to understand fans needs? Well I forgot that now we have become just customers...

Hope to see some of the points of your list list back in ME3... NO, unfortunatelly no.....

Yeah if they just make the enviroments more varied, the phsics for the Mako/Hammerhead better and make exploration more rewarding it could be great! If you've played Red Dead Redemption then you know how good simply exploring can be!

I personally find Mass Effect 2 superior in almost every way except story and maybe environment. Mass Effect 1 story was more mysterious and thrilling to me. The environments really gave you that mood/feeling that you're in another planet.

Funny how ME2 tried so hard to be epic but failed just a little short on that aspect. Imo the first Mass Effect was much more epic. Apart from that ME2 was great.

I never understood why they removed squad armor in ME2. I don't know what brought Bioware to think that going half naked into combat was a great idea.

I'd take my well-armored Ash over any ME2 squadmate. Any day.

...well, that is if I didn't leave her to die on Virmire, but you get the point.

Don't know if it's been said before but two things from ME1 which I felt were mostly or completely absent in ME2 that I would like to see make a comeback in ME3: squad banter. There are instances of similar interactions in ME2, but with a couple notable exceptions (Jack and Miranda, Legion and Tali, Jacob's offering opinions on new squad members), you don't get the sense of how the members of your team relate to each other and how that changes over the course of the game. Or even, really, much acknowledgement by team members that the rest of the team even exists. ME2 was supposed to be all about putting together this amazing team for a suicide mission, but a lot of the time it felt more like a bunch of individuals who each had a connection with Shepard but none at all with each other.

Along those lines, I think bringing back whole squad debriefings after missions would be a big plus. Of course, it's a lot easier to do when you've only got 6 team members instead of 12 (counting DLC characters). That's one design choice I didn't agree with in ME2. Give me fewer team mates and more depth of interaction with each one over quantity any day. But now I'm straying off-topic.

Another thing I want to see return in ME3: hidden loading/more seamless transitions. Not only did the loading screens detract from the atmosphere of the game, they actually took LONGER for me than the elevator rides or decontamination/airlock opening sequences.

You're right, it felt more like a team in ME1. Characters were constantly bringing each other up (Liara vs. Ash) and you could see the evolution of characters more clearly. I also liked how they talked in your conversations more often, voicing there opinion but knowing it was still up to you.

And yes, the loading screens in ME2 are stupid. At least in ME1 there was the random Relay one and there was the cool Normandy one. If they added a different one for the ground it would be fine. The elevator/decontamination sequences were really cool. "Log, the CO is ashore. XO Pressley has the deck". Good times... good times. Generic load screens ****** me off. They give me nightmares after Fallout New Vegas. 5 minutes sometimes!!

As for the mako sequences, they were okay at best. It was odd that the same thing was there every time (probe, resource, anomaly which was usually a turian symbol). But the vistas were gorgeous. I remember the moon, that was really cool. Also there was this one planet that had meteors that constantly fell. And who could forget running into a thresher maw? ME3 could have mako like sequences on UNC type missions (not ****ty n7 ones) with the Hammerhead instead. It is a lot faster so it would make exploring less tiresome.

One last thing I miss, squatting! Why did they take it out for that stupid button that tells you where the objective is? And being able to put your gun away. That looks weird in ME2.
And now for something completely different: How do you make Shepard's face as your avatar?
