I definitely think the last few hours of ME1 remain the highest point in the series, but I can't say I like 1 more than 2.

For ME2's part, it never reached the heights of ME1's endgame but four of my five favorite missions are found in the sequel. And it does a much better job (imo, imo) of fleshing out the universe. I also prefer its cast overall and I find the writing is typically more crisp, even if the main antagonist of the game is nothing compared to Saren.

It might just be all the UNC missions I went after so soon into getting the Normandy under my command, but I didn't feel like ME1's plot was much to brag about until Virmire. At that point, yeah, I stood corrected -- gladly. But I didn't think it was anything more than decent until the pieces started coming together.

ME2's overall plot was definitely inferior but all that beautiful world-building blew me away. I felt like I knew the universe a lot more personally. And I agree that there needed to be a lot more squad interaction; that is one major thing I hope ME3 addresses.

free roam planet exploration I just wish we had more to find and things to attack us and less copy paste bases.
a real story with twists and turns that make me care what am doing there and why ME2 didn't make me care about anything but Tali.
multi encountered fleshed out villian saren's officially on my love to hate list with Sephiroth.
I miss all the powers I could do as biotics, my uber powerful shotgun, and my impressive carnage.
The glowing drive core
ME love scenes
An economy the ability to buy and sell armor and guns
The presidium
finding those long lost beacons hidden in the game
talking most of the game with my crew on their cultures and having philosophical debates

Ah yes, forgot about the ME1 love scenes but my god... the first time I saw that night before Ilos scene with Kaidan...
  The emotion of the leadup, the passion when they finally kiss, the fact that the scenes were tastefully done while still being a realistic depiction of a couple about to make love... nothing since then compares in my opinion (yes, I'm looking at you, DA:O and ME2.  Can't speak for DA2 since I haven't played it yet)

Yeah I found the same thing, ME1 was great but Virmire and the final few missions were simply amazing.

Carnage was cool as hell.

I can see why they added heavy weapons, but Carnage should return as a secondary fire option or something.

Well since concussive shot is effcted by ammo type now, maybe I can pretend an Inferno Concussive shot is carnage.

Yeah I've never done the Kaidan romane only Ashley's and Liara's. And I was taken a back at how good it was, I can only think of one other game that rivals ME1 in terms of tastefulnes, and thats Heavy Rain (If you have a PS3 I deffinetlley reccomend it!).
Oh and DA2 has possiblly the worst BioWare sex scenes ever. Its pretty face-palm worthy....

I wonder what Cryo Concussive shot would be like......

I also liked having only 6 squaddies that you could chat up and get to know well. I mean, I REALLY enjoyed most of ME2's new characters...Samara, Thane, Legion and Miranda I felt brought a nice mix of moral complexity and good writing. But there just wasn't enough of them compared to ME1's character development/interaction.

And I agree, the love scenes in ME1 were great...the music, the passion, the tastefulness. It felt very mature and not quite so awkward as most other games.

What do you mean you miss ME1's godly music? I thought both games had near enough the same music? :D

Shows how much attention I pay to it

@hc00
Not really, ME2 dosent have many returning songs and ME1's style of music is qute different to ME2's.
But I guess different people pay more attention to other features...

I feel sorry for people who started with ME2, they'll never know that their Backgrounds once had an impact on the game.

I seriously can't believe they missed that, I mean new players will never know why the hell they chose their backgrounds anyway.

I think you hear a advert on the Citadel saying something about Akuze in ME2 but thats it.
Poor, poor PS3 users. They dont get ME1 and theres this whole PSN fiasco......
It would help if Microsoft wasnt so damn greedy......

Alright, I loved both games, but Mass Effect 1 is in my opinion one of the best games ever made
Mass effect 2 is great but i thought it was created to appeal to more shooter game players
Mass Effect has an amazing story and character development, and so does mass effect two, i was very happy with ME2's story and character development
I had 5 disappointments with ME2 and my friends agree with me
ME2 stripped out a lot of development for shepard, compare the two skill trees, and the level caps... Mass Effect One felt like much more of an RPG
In ME2 shepard spoke several times without a dialog option... that really turned me off
i understand that shep wont ALWAYS have a dialog choice, but there were wayyyy too many times in ME2 where there wasnt a choice
Squad mate customization? no armor customization, customizing sheps armor was amazing, but it was very disappointing not to be able to customize the squad armor
Finally, weapons... there were very little weapon choices and ZERO weapon mods... Weapon mods were one of my favorite things in ME1, and i'm pretty sure i saw that weapon mods are confirmed to come back? which would be nice

Come on Bioware... give us more of the promising space vistas hinted in the original!

Don't worry, weapon modding will almost certainly return from what I've seen.
Apparently it might be done so you actually get to set your weapon out and it shows Shepard physically re-assembling it to your wishes right before your eyes. Nice and immersive.

Also, about squad armor... I'm pretty hopeful because there has been a lot of vocal complaints about that along with the logic-fail issues tied in to it.

Yes all squad mates need armor when in unsafe ports, war zones, and hazard zones those failing to comply will meet with the nearest airlock and not be provided with breather masks.

I also miss all the beautiful uncharted world sky scenes the meteor shower, the red dust planets, bring down the sky asteroid sky scene, the monkey world.

The free roaming worlds I could climb the mountains or descend into the steepest craters.

I agree with TuRiAn_AllY that shep spoke solo way to much in ME2 sure not all of his lines were cringe worthy but I was like hey I don't want to say that! Or hit them don't talk them to death!

No arguements from me there

Oh this, so much this! I cant belive more people havent complained about this. Unfortunley Arrival had Shepard automaticlly saying stuff wayyy too often. So I cant say that looks hopefull for ME3.....

Yeah this has been disscused a lot, so I presume BioWare has something in mind for ME3.

Yup this has been confirmed by Bioware and apparentlly there will be 3 different parts of a gun you can customize.
-The scope
-The barrel
-The color
(I think)
