1.Squad interactions - Everybody miss these, even tough they where pretty minimal to start with, but they should return in grander scale in ME3.
2. Better story - Well, the main story was better in ME1, with alot of twists along the way. However, sidequests where superior in ME2.
3. More realistic atmosphere - When you are in space, you need suits, not belts wrapped around your private parts (Jack, im looking at you)
4. A true nemesis - I miss Saren. Interractions between gigantic flying squids can only go so far.
5. Feeling you actually are in space - The Mako and the desert wastelands of different planets gave this great atmosphere! They should return.
Besides these factors, I would say ME2 thrumps ME1 in almost every way.

Honestly...ME2 was a great game...but for ME3 all I want is more character interaction and larger non-mission environments, such as the Citadel presidium and the various wards. Mix those two with what they had in Mass Effect 2 and then it would be great.
Definitely something I found problematic. ME2's problems don't stop there, but ME2 felt too much like you either go through linear corridors for some overlong repetitive shooting or take part in conversations. For Mass Effect to be truly excellent, you need more than that. ME1 wasn't quite there, but despite all it's flaws it wasn't too far off.
I'll also add that I'd really, really wish to see some planet exploration again. Yes, it wasn't perfect. But there's always room for improvement, something which Bioware disregarded entirely with one of their most unique feature. What I loved about ME1, is that you felt like exploring a galaxy, you felt the mystery and weirdness of space. Hub worls in ME2 while more detailed, are definitely streamlined and feel like teasers. Missions taking entirely place in a real mission-like designed space, rather than an RPG space, takes out a lot of interaction and exploration (as small as it was). Most of the interaction with anything in ME2 was stripped down to conversations and shooting, which is a shame considering the expansive universe Bioware created. Again, planet exploration could've been improved, but even in its flawed form it provided me a sense of wonder and mystery. Driving on the moon with its plateau-like section and ''valleys'' (for the lack of the good expression) with the rising Earth was truly something. As some of the hot planets with a great sky (with the sun and all) and overall fitting geography. Some were nice wastelands (with some a bit similar and more randomized geography unfortunately), but you also had some pretty cool garden planets (again some with better geography than others) which made for great views and distinct particularities. Add in moons or a particular sun in the night sky, maybe Saturn-like rings, and things like that, and often it makes for an eerie and mysterious atmosphere, some sense of wonder. Sure it may feel like I'm sticking with small things, but I always thought ME1 was one of these games where all the little things counted and almost outweighted the problems (I loved the elevators and deppresurization (or whatever it was called thing). Mass Effect throws you in a universe which is on a galactic scale, so it's awesome to be able to do things exclusive to these types of universe. I'm quite interested in cosmology, like to look at the nightsky and even the mood in the morning, be able to experience these things on other planets with different situations and particularities can be a quite exciting addition. Sure it could've been improved, but why didn't they? That is probably THE thing I wan't returned. We don't need as many planets (it would feel repetitive in a way as it was already in ME1), just more detailed and unique ones.
Oh and please, do bring back the old-school sci-fi feel and let Micheal Bay do his own thing.
Agreed.Thornquist wrote...

Yeah I miss the atmosphere too. I think thats what gave ME1 character. It wasnt its inventory or the Mako. It was the amazing atmoshphere imo..........
@Evil Johnny 666
Hmm I get the feeling veichle exploration wont return in ME3. Not that I dont want it to, its just that it would make little sense. What with the Reapers reaping all galactic life...I think Shepard wont have much time to go exploring.
I guess I'll hope it returns in a Mass effect spin-off!

Just watch the "story" trailer and it really hits you how much bigger ME1's plot was.....(I would link it but I'm using my iPad which makes it near impossible)

Ugh, that opening shot of Shepard looking down at the Earth through that tiny window just reminds me of how well ME1 represented the scale of the universe. Just... ugh.

It's just...a damn shame that all of that was lost in ME2.
Sophomore curse, but that's okay because look like it's all coming back in ME3.

This is a list that isn't impossible to fulfill. I miss all these aspects. Hopefully TIM becomes the main villain and a sort of Saren type character. Well without the combat capabilities. I dislike fighting robots which don't have any emotional impact. They are things no one can feel sorry for. A good villain is someone you can feel sorry for or someone that you can just loathe. A great villain is both. Hopefully BW hits the target on this.Thornquist wrote...

And thats another weird thing with ME1 whenever I play it, it still seems like its my first time playing and everything is golden. Whislt I was getting nostalgic about COD:4 the other day and I played that and it was still the same meh online.
Oh and I'm super exited that Ash is back in ME3! *Fanboy squee*

Well judging from my avatar, I think you know who I want to live. ME1 and Halo 3 are the only games I can come back to and feel the same love for. Sure ME1 has those annoying times where there is no texturing on anything and Halo 3 has the laggiest Matchmaking of all time but they are gaming gems. So here's to you ME1 and H3 for giving me fond memories I will carry with me for a long time.Da Mecca wrote...

Nice list and man I hope the electro-synth soundtrack comes back. I much prefer it to ME2's style of music.
Oh and its called a signature and you can change it by clicking on your profile and then choose "Forum settings". From there type whatever you want and then choose save changes.
