I am experimenting with pushing fog back from the standard 90 - 100 to something closer to 1000 to allow a better view of the scenery in my campaign.  My main concern is performance issues on some machines.  I don't notice one, but I have pretty fast hardware.  Has anyone else experimented with this?

I would think having the fog further would improve performance - less texture blending and such... but I could be wrong.

That would be great. I thought I read somewhere that pushing the fog further hurt performance, but I don't remember where. It certainly didn't hurt my machine.

Fog has a few settings and I think some of them would affect performance more than others. I would think that pushing FarClip back would hurt a lot more than making FogStart further.

Also, have you played around with how much the Horizon Distance in the player's settings affects this? I'd think players would always have that option if they want to speed up performance.

No I haven't experimented with the players settings. As a matter of fact, I wasn't aware this could be modified. I was thinking I would have to see if there was a way to script an option to horizon distance. If the game does it automatically, that would be great. Ideally I want to push the horizon all the way back and then give the player the option of bringing it back in to improve performance. Thankis MasterChanger, I'll have a look at that.
