Seeing the Arrival demo from IGN gives a hint on what the possible "Ultimate Sacrifice" is for the DLC. The "good" doc tells Shepard that she planned to destroy the Batarian relay, which is why she was imprisoned. She also says that the resulting explosion could obliterate the entire Batarian sistem. To this Shepard reponds with skepticism.

Would you destroy the Relay (I heard that the DLC contains choices) knowing that billions of lives, batarian lives I should add, will be lost in the process. Or do it anyay hoping the doc was wrong in her hipothesis?

I personally see it as killing two birds with one stone. Delay the Reapers and kill a lot of Batarians with they're own technique of planet "parking lots". Oooh the irony.....

It isn't their home system.

My Earthborn/Sole-Survivor really doesn't care much about the confinuing conflict with the batarians so it won't exactly be a hard choice, nor will it feel like an ultimate sacrifice to lose something that she doesn't really care much about. Even for Shepards that hate batarians, it still wouldn't feel like much of an ultimate sacrifice. 'Tis possible we're reading too much into that phrase, however, lots of the achievements have outlandish names that make them sound more epic than they are.

As of right now... I am really not sure what I'd do.

But I'm leaning lightly on not destroying the Relay.

If that is the choice.

I wouldn't do that, except once to get the achievement, because you will become the very personal enemy of every Batarian in the galaxy, and I am sure that the council won't look kindly on that particular brand of genocide.

Yeah, the Reapers getting here is totally worth the love that will go away once the reapers start killing everyone.

Saving everyone, though, is worth the risk.

"Ultimate Sacrifice" is the achievement name for completing the DLC, implying there's an ultimate sacrifice regardless of player input. I'm not going to assume it's something like blowing up the batarians for laughs, it'll probably be something more personal and small scale than that.

Like Hackett dying.

For something that survived a supernova, and was just moved around some, how does the good doc think she can unleash more energy to destroy the relay?? I find it hard to believe humans would have figured out how to destroy a relay that has proven to survive just about anything thrown at it by the cosmos. IF that is what the achievement is, then I call lame *****(brown stuff).

I can easily see it as a loss of Hackett or just completing the DLC.

A Colonial War Hero who stopped Balak will be conflicted, depending on the truth.

Thing is, if they give you option to not do it, which a par/ren choice would suggest, and you pick that, you've kind of doomed everyone and interfered with canon.

Most people would agree that the Batarians had this coming, but they might be useful.

I'd flip a quarter. Or credit chit, whatever.

Shepard: Hmm, I am a force for good, Paragon of Fairness and Justice. Spared the Rachni, and countless douches that probably shoulda been good and executed.
Doc: O-kay.
Shepard: But you know what?
Doc: What?
Shepard: F**k Batarians.

I agree with this. It'll most likely be one of the NPCs giving up their life to either save you or help in your mission. Hackett seems like the most likely person, too, since we're meant to actually care about him.

It can also be a choice that happens regardless, with only the morality mattering. Like how if you spare Miranda's friend that Asari kills him two seconds later anyway.

(ren I won't miss Batarian's) Shepard: I can't say the 4 eyes bastards didn't have this coming. It's time they did something good for the universe. (Blows up relay and system.

(par. This is wrong) Shepard: I'm not about to murder millons! There has to be another way. (Kenson/Hackett/Ashley/Kaiden/Automated system destroys the relay anyway)

I think that letting the Reapers arrive early in order to save some Batarians is pretty much a sacrifice in itself. The choice/achievement still makes sense.

Yeah but my point is that no matter what the Reapers can't arrive early here, because it can be done before the end of the game, and the Anderson novel establishes that it will take months for them to arrive.

So either way the Reapers must be cut off in Arrival. They can't show up without messing up the timeframe.

I agree that whatever is going to happen in this DLC is going to happen. BioWare would be foolish to make more work for themselves in ME3 handling different outcomes, just to please the small fraction of the userbase that is still buying content for ME2 over a year later.

Also, regarding the relay supposedly surviving a supernova, I don't recall them mentioning how close it was to the explosion, but we can assume it was light years away, orbiting a completely different star system when the wake of the nova knocked it from its path and shrouded it in dust. The way people talk, you'd think the relay was at the center of the massive star that exploded.
