Oh I remember this. When the gargantuan spider dropped it did facing the camera and I swear i almost fainted. I had to look away and just keep pressing x, and other buttons at random. When I was able to look back my whole party but varic was dead.
He did manage to kill it, making him my now favorite characters.
To sum up, my first word was “HOLY BABY SMOKED BACON JESUS!”
And almost proceeded to ****** my pants, **** spiders.

Spiders are the only enemy that can and will scare me even when I know they are coming.

Just remember, guys, it could be worse.

The spiders could be using Overwhelm. That giant spider could have chewed on your face.

I imagine that the animation and combat guys are reading this and giggling hysterically.

If anything about it scared me, it was how quickly the legs moved when it walked around. Just kind of nasty, unnatural type of feeling. The only game creature that's ever really startled me has been, and will be, Fallout ghouls in dark, tight buildings...

Oh well, the monstrous spider has the ability to totally block Hawke into the corner and attack...attack...attack...to the screen. I have a monstrous tv->monstrous spider=diabolic spider. This not good for my phobia

Ah, yes, it did that to me once. I have a 48" plasma. Worse part was that it was doing its ridiculously fast crawl over and over, like it was pushing me into the corner. Didn't freak me out much, but man was it chaotic.

I looted the chests and ran up the stairs.  I heard the spider noises behind me and figured it was the usual five or so spiders.  I turned around as swore as the whole pit was full of spiders.  I killed them all only to swear again as the huge boss spider decended from the ceiling.  My Hawke was a warrior, so I had to tank the thing, it was not pleasant.

Having read the Malazan Book of the Fallen series I first thought of Sgt. Hellian and then understood her need to stay drunk all the time as well as her intense fear of spiders
My second thought was "time to download the arachnophobia mod" lol

I was unlucky at one moment that the Monsterous Spider spawned RIGHT ON MY HAWKE ......

I was like Frodo who saw the Shelob for the first time and I still remember that moment to this day.....

Ugh, I don't remember ever encountering that in the deep roads, for me it first popped when I was returning to Sundermount caves for the 2nd or 3rd time. Belted into the first room in the caves, expecting nothing or maybe yet more corpses, and THAT drops onto me from the ceiling D:

There's a mod to replace all spiders with Mabari here.

I absolutely HATED those wasp spiders that showed up to the party - bloody eight-legged, venom-spitting death machines!!!! They were more irksome than the gigantic spider actually. I died to them more than I did to the big one. On the bright side, there was no Overwhelm ability. If they still had that, I'd probably punt my laptop off my balcony.

Okay, so. Just curious; is it possible for the images of real spiders in a thread which is obviously populated by arachnophobes to be marked as "spam"? That's really, really not cool.

I like commiserating as much as the rest of y'all, and I can maybe understand using pictures from the game, but... yeah I can't get through page 3.

I first ran into the Monstrous Spider in some other cave and quest instead of the Deep Roads (I can't remember which).

When the normal spiders appeared I was like:

"Great, more spiders. Here we go ag-- HOLYMOTHER****ING****! DONOTWANTDONOTWANT!"

My panic increased as each one of my party members died, eventually leaving just me and Dog. By complete luck I was able to finish it off with only a quarter health left.

Second playthrough, I ran into the Deep Roads spider and it still made me jump. Though I was more annoyed that I had to fight that thing again. It was worth it however, as a friend of mine--a severe arachnophobe--was visiting. My original reaction was nothing compared to how badly they freaked out.

I'm a horrible person.
