Useless how exactly? Not in gameplay. In both ME1 and during Lair, she's a biotic beast. Storywise she's not useless either. Like the writing or not, in ME1 she's the one who finds Ilos for you in the end, in ME2 she's the reason you get to live, and post-Lair she's the fracking Shadow Broker. "Useless" indeed.

i don't like Liara, she was dumb in Mass Effect 1nad I hated her for it. she only helped and was probably a double agent. she was ungrateful in ME2 and did nothing to help Shepard when he died. Tali is also stupid character, no face was stupid for putting her romance there.

Anyway, LotSB was made because, finished the events of ME1, Liara risked to become useless in terms of plot, so Walters made her the girl who rescued the Shepard's remains and built the whole Shadow Broker subplot, that except for a few glithc in Liara's characterization works greatly. Liara had her own DlC simply because it was necessary to bring her into a new direction... while the most important thing of the VS is that he/she's an extremely loyal ALLIANCE SOLDIER, and he/she doesn't need such a twist in his/her storyline as Liara... so you'll have just to wait to return with the Alliance to have Ash/Kaidan back. And you're going to have problably 1/2 or so of the next game about it! You really preferred to solve everything in a 2 hours DlC just because you cannot wait?

It's funny how all you have to do is say something negative about Liara and then, no matter what the topic of the thread is and the content meant for discussion... it's automatically a troll thread and is booed and maligned.
Meanwhile, people can make threads dedicated for the sole purpose of bashing the VS... and they get hardly any flak at all and some of those threads last for like, six months.

Don't get me wrong, I don't approve of this OP's attitude and I think that his angry attempts to coax a rise out of the Liara fans and the Tali fans (I refuse to use the term 'Talimancer') are not only immature but they also send the wrong message and don't do much to help our problem, instead only give us (the VS fans) a bad public image.
And if this guy is actually a troll operating under the guise of an angry VS fan then I have every reason to despise him as well. Save for that doing so would be sparing more time and energy on him than he deserves.
Let me make something clear, with the exception of the roaming trolls of the respective fanbases (which I don't believe are in as great a number as people would have me believe), I have nothing against the Tali and Liara fanbases. The former hasn't really given us a reason to dislike us in a long time and the latter has been nice to us for an even longer period of time.
But still.... could there possibly be a more stupid reason to be angry and hateful to each other, than arguing over who has the best virtual girlfriend?
Now that I've dug through... at least the surface of the hatred, let's give my reply.
As for my opinion on the loss of, or at least potential loss of, the VS in Arrival, please allow me to quote a very intelligent and handsome and charismatic mighty thunderous figure who once spoke such great words of wisdom that all others flocked to regard them with jealous awe (IT WAS ME!)

Would you rather the romance complication be resolved in one quick hour long DLC or be something solid and powerful that can be an intergral part of the whole game?
I admit, I am an Ashley fan myself. And I am pissed off beyond belief that I've had to be snubbed for so long because of it. However I remain hopeful, several times now Bioware developers have said that they haven't forgotten about the VS and that there are big plans for Mass Effect 3 with them.
To tell you the truth, I am inclined to keep up the hope that this is true. While I am still very angry and annoyed by the entire crappy situation I find myself in as an Ashley fan, I feel it is my duty to remain hopeful.
If she's back in Mass Effect 3 and if her role in it is good enough, then all the crap I had to suffer through won't hurt quite as much."
