List of enemies that do elemental, but NOT magic damage?

So I came across the conclusion that it's possible to be hit with an elemental attack, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's magical (I'm pretty sure that statement is true because I read that wasp spider's normal attack does nature damage).  I thought that all just normal enemies had auto attacks that were effected by only armor (the game doesn't tell you what type of damage you're taking, so how would I know otherwise!?).  So I thought to myself later on that if I had used Elemental Aegis during the wasp spider fight it probably would have went a lot easier (60% nature resistance).

So pretty much I'm wondering how many times i've dependend on armor to mitigate damage when in reality I should have been using Elemental Aegis.  I'm assuming slavers, templars, mercenaries all do physical damage (which is probably why I never die to those groups cause I have like 70% physical resistance :D)  But what monsters should I worry about elemental resistances for.

tl;dr: what monsters don't do physical damage, but not elemental damage.

For half of the answer, visit:

It is a list of elemental resistance and immunity on Nightmare mode. It is not what you are looking for, but it is half of the answer. Say, rage demon is a fire elemental, it is naturally immune to fire attack, and it does fire attack. In other mode, nobody is immune to anything, just have higher resistance.

First, your mabari is immune to Rage Demon attack so he makes a perfect tank, only if you can tell him who to attack. This can easily conclude that Rage Demon does fire elemental attack. And I do not think it differs whether it is elemental or magic damage, they should be all the same.

Second, I have tested that my 33dps weapon that does Fire damage did a whole lot more damage to golem than those much higher physical weapon dps (around 42-48). This is is because fire weapon does not check target's armor. There should be a few weapons in the game that are not physical damage. This should also conclude that a Rage Demon would do nothing to you if your fire resistance is very high (hypothetically speaking). Aegis armor would help greatly in this case.

Note: just by looking at the list scanning for immunity, it does not 100% tell you what type of attack they are using. Spiders spit poison which does Nature damage, but their melee attacks do physical damage, I am quite sure. Rage demon is pure fire, as I watched my mabari taking 0 damage from it (even on Nightmare). Qunari have immunity to Lightning, but their attacks are strictly physical.

It is quite obvious to tell in most cases. But some, like Revenant, I still haven't decided whether it does physical or frost damage. It sure casts frost spell, but it hits you with a sword. Common sense tells me it does physical damage on auto attack, but ... my common sense has nothing to do with how Bioware designed the game. All human enemies do physical damage regardless of what immunity they have (mages are exception of course). Abominations do physical damage I think. Shades .... not too sure whether physical or spirit, I haven't yet had a chance to find out.

Hope I helped a little.

Thanks, some pretty good information in there. I never thought to use the Mabari becaue of the stamina reserve on it is too high combined with what I already have. I'll definitely check it out though.

I think that the mabari don't cost any stamina, is free.

Anyway on topic... The BEST way to know what type of damage do any enemy is precisely, with the mabari. If the mabari take any damage don't show the common red number... instead it show white if the damage is normal, purple if the damage is spirit etc...

For example the abominations do spirit damage, I know it thnaks to my mabari ;)

I wish someone make a list of every enemy damage type beside normal damage

Hope it helps and sorry my bad english

If the mabari takes 0 stamina i'm going to cry.  I could have sword it said that it was like 30%..omg.

But thanks, I'll definitely use him more to check out damage types.

Mabari is essentially free of anything. The only 2 limitations are the cooldown to recast, and you have completely no control over him (thus he may aggro more mobs than you intend to in certain situation). Something also tells me he has way more HP than any of our companions. My first time playing Nightmare, Aveline did not have a good build nor good gear, she got 3 shot by a golem. But during the mist of all that craziness, I saw mabari tanking golem and he lasted a long while. Long enough for me to finish off all other mobs so I can start fighting golem alone.

Back on topic, we do definitely need a detailed list of what each enemy exactly attack with. It is not always obvious because the number hitting our companions are always red. And mabari is not always a good tool to test because you really have no control over him. Has anyone considered making a full resist set for certain element? I haven't bordered because DA2 is actually shorter, linear (can't go between acts) and since gear respawn on vendors only after you buy something, it would be very costly to keep buying to hope for new respawn. Technically, with money cheat, it's still tedious because you have to go away for a while and come back to get new gear spawned in shops.
