Romance in DA2 is ****...

Keran.

I picked Fenris on my first play through and his story is very well written. In some sense feels better than DA:O romances (at least official ones, I liked Ser Gilmore one better )

If we think Hawke lives in same city for 10 years, I would like to pick someone outside my companions. So this is why I don't really interested in companion romances and prefer Keran romance I write in my head. (If you make him cast out Templar order you can see how your lives intervined),

Other person I'd go for would be Hugh (?), templar friend of Keran with touching interest for him.

With my straight guy runs I am trying to romance Merrill with my witty archer and trying to romance with Isabela with my annoying (red response) fighter. I am just reached act 2 with both recently and only got one option for flirting. According to those I will prefer Isebela for straight characters.

Maybe can give Isebela another go for F/F romance if I can bear stupid running animation of female Hawke.

I don't touch Anders with a mile long pole no matter which orientation I play. That guy was irritating on Awakenings and worse on DA 2.

I like isabella so far - haven't tried anyone else. I also like the whole unrequited love thing with Aveline. Wish we got to know them all better though.

I've only played Fenris and Anders thus far. Isabela's my next goal, but I have a hard time not romancing Anders. I'm a sucker for tragedy and heartache (in fiction, at least). Anders also seems most connected to the main plot. The Chantry scene at the end plays out so much more heart-rending if Anders is romanced. Plus, I have a soft spot for possession stories. Yeah, definitely Anders.

I have played several playthroughs of DA 2 and I have always done Isabella (No pun intended) but I have kept my options open I want to try all the romances but I struggle to even attempt Anders romance he is so annoying. Dunno why I like Isabella romance I think it is cause I always like the strong woman role maybe. (POSSIBLE SPOILER!!!) I also like how at the end of act 2 Hawke is prepared to die to defend the woman he loves, and he is willing to go up against the HUMONGOUS Arishok. Then I think it is very emotional how Isabella can't handle how she feels about him and how he cares about her and how she has to leave temporarily.

Havent seen em all so i can't comment on a favourite one yet but i will say I like the rivalry path with merril (was friend during the first romance playthrough). Doing the whole blood magic is bad and evil killing mirror is evil thing on this playthrough and then her realising your just trying to protect her is cool. Going for isabella this time around and had the end of act 2 where she comes to your house regarding that turning her down made me feel horrible... like I'd just kicked a puppy

Merrill, just the right dose of geeky and cute awkwardness, strength of character and determination, personal power in combat commanding of respect, as well as drama and vulnerability. No contest really. Which is saying a lot. Considering Merrill's ancestors, Aerie and Liara were way too whiny (though Liara definitely went to the very top of all romanceables ever after LotSB)... and considering other romances were good here too. While I don't see myself as my toon, I rarely like straight romances when playing as a female protagonist. Mostly because I always feel those guys are whiny and pathetic. Alistair didn't have that problem, and Fenris was actually one of the first who did it right. With a little encouragement, his rivalry romance is movie stuff. He's not on a leash like typical LI's are, he is even in control somewhat.

In general the rivalry aspect works really well. For once it's not just about some superficial romance where both say what the other wants to hear. Instead, you can have real arguments and differences of opinion, heated and HONEST debates, that only serve to strengthen the passion. That's realistic.

The rivalry romance with Fenris is great fun. It's nicely fleshed out with lots of fun shouting matches followed by regretful apologies and some pretty damn sweet character exploration. I really felt a change in the dynamic as the story progressed, as Fenris begins to see the effect of his anger on others, and starts to loosen up and laugh at my sarcastic mage's jokes. And the wrap up of the romance is infinitely more satisfying than the DA:O Alistair romance.

Surprisingly, Fenris. It was tender, but not too soppy, and it seemed to develop more naturally between Act 1 and 2 than the others. The way he leaves you in Act 2 but returns in 3 was very touching. I loved it.

Although I enjoyed Anders and Merrill, with Merrill it felt more like she and Hawke were just good friends, and then suddenly decided to move things up a level. Meanwhile Anders was seriously full on. A bit too much for my tastes. He seemed to fall for Hawke quickly and suddenly in Act 1, but after that it progresses well. After Act 1 and towards the end of 2, I think Anders and Merrill's romances become far more enjoyable and touching. I have only just begun romancing Isabela so I can't comment on hers, though I imagine it will be a 'friends with benefits' thing.

Merrill twice now. Was going to try Isabella on my second play through but two things:
1) Isabella is a dirty dirty ****....
2) Merrill is just too darn cute.

I do want to try the rivalmance with Merrill at some point.

Ehh, so far, Anders...but I think I'm in the minority here, lol. He was such a cutie and he had such a sweet romance if your friendship was high/maxed. I think part of that was also because he was one of my constant companions in Awakenings, even though he really isn't the same person now.

I tried doing the Fenris one, but I'm not into the whole mysterious & broody guy with a dark past. And he looked too anime-like for my liking.

My thought exacly <3. I liked Anders most, althrough Alistair was sooo great and hard to beat him. Maybe that's because the way of speaking to companions has changed. Meh.

After romancing both Fenris and Anders I decided I like the Fenris romance the best.
I liked the Fenris romance the best because it had a lot of intimate moments (kisses to be exact ) I found his character a very, very passionate lover,sexy , and intriguing. His voice could talk me into anything. Then the heartfelt words at the end made my heart do a little flip. 

As far as Anders I really thought he was a sweet and passionate romance but felt lacking in intimacy after the initial love scene. Don't get me wrong the kisses my Hawke got from him could stir butterflies in my stomach and rattle my senses same as Fenris, but after that intitial love scene you got no more hot, sweet kisses. You only got conversations. Even at the end I was expecting something..but all I got was a request to run away with him. Which I gladly did, I just wish there was more intimacy throughout the game. Even in the debug ending where you can convince Anders to side with Templars (only accessible through a runscript cheat,this paricular ending was taken out) Hawke gets a kiss which I thought was unfair when I saw the video because in the mage ending you are standing by your man..Oh well can't always get what you want I guess.

Merrill's for general 'awww', Isabela's for cool 'resolution' at the end and Anders' for the best cut-scene. Fenris.... just annoys me with how hard it is to get anywhere with him. >.<

Fenris. I really felt as if there was a developing relationship over the course of the game... first with Fenris leaving after a one night stand, of sorts, and then agonizing over that stupid decision for three years before they finally get back together again. I liked the Anders romance too, which I did in my first run (Second was Fenris)... and it's odd because usually the first character I romance ends up being the one I have a hard time staying away from because I like them so much, it's what happened with Alistair in origins... but I just loved Fenris more.

The progression seems much better if you don't flirt with him until Act II. No declarations of "You can't possibly want me/I'll only hurt you" two minutes after you met just because you complimented his pauldrons or whatever.

That said, I've only done Anders' romance...twice. I meant my mage to have a rivalmance with Fenris, but she refused to cooperate. I do adore Anders, so I purposely made my third character be snarky with him from the getgo.

Hopefully I'll get Fenris done this time.

I enjoyed romancing Merill was quite a intimate one felt sorry that she had lost everything and only had me. Even though I cheated on her for a quick fumble with Isabela before hand lol. Wished I could of romanced Aveline but she was not having any of it.
