Totally gross of BioWare to make the best looking girl in the game your sister. She looks awesome in her original armor and her Grey Warden armor. I hope they make her available in later DA games because she's definitely the more interesting sibling.

This decision was not at all affected by the fact that I didn't want to force Varric to tell the seeker:
"Hawke killed the Knight-Commander Meredith mainly because she was so self righteous that she completely ignored the questions pointed to her by opposition 100% of the time and that annoyed him to the point that he snapped"
I only thought about the safety of Bethany, the motive for righteous homicide was only a bonus.
Honest!

RP-wise, as someone above already pointed out, whatever you decide, it will always be the fault of Hawke on how it turned out. You take her with you in the tunnels, your fault she dies or becomes a "walking dead"=Warden. You leave her behind, so it´s your fault that she was discovered by the templars and "imprisoned".
RP-wise, for me her being in the Circle was the main reason why my Hawke stood by the side of the mages in the end. The political Hawke wouldn´t have done anything to destroy his wealthy existance in Kirkwall by joining mages who he owes nothing to. About killing possibly innocents, this happens on both sides; there are innocent mages and innocent templars.
In my RP experience, Bethany is angry with Garret because he left her behind at the wish of "mum", like a little child. That´s why there is almost no contact to Garret during act 2. A small reconciliation occurs in act 3, but they will never be family again. That´s why Garret leaves Kirkwall without her. Sad but still one of the better endings for Bethany; she has her life ahead of her and maybe even the chance, as one of the few surviving and non-corrupted mages, to become head of a new, maybe "liberated" circle. I like to think that way, because my Hero of Ferelden already "liberated" the circle of Ferelden by means of a boon from Queen Anora. In my personal history, this will give example also for a future circle of Kirkwall. Mages govern themselves and call upon the Templars as a police only when necessary.

If we were dealing with any other Circle than the one in Kirkwall, I'd probably have to say she'd be better off and happier there, despite my own personal dislike for the Circles and blatant Warden fanboyness.
But when the options are "travel around, grow as a mage, be forever safe from Templars" or "live in a gulag overseen by a going-insane woman surrounded by blood magic and corruption", I'm making Beth a Warden all day every day.
Being a warden is a death sentence. Ok we all die sometime but if you've played DA Origins you know how short life is as a warden one way or another. Besides the wardens don't discourage the use of blood magic which Bethany is firmly opposed to. Victory, Vigilance, Sacrifice - not a bad job description. Problem is you don't know what the job entails until after you've joined up!

I've always personally thought that Bethany seemed happier in the circle than being a grey warden.

I tried making Bethany a Warden ONCE. The tone of the letter my Hawke got from her at the beginning of Act 2 was enough to convince me that was a mistake, she sounded so miserable. I of course immediately redid the entire Deep Roads Expedition and left her behind that time. So Circle Bethany it is for me.

I've watched the Youtube videos, and Bethany actually seems calmer and happier in the Circle (odd as it is), so I tentatively go with that.
I've also seen the Youtube videos on Kirkwall. It looks like a sh*thole, and I can't imagine playing any character that would willingly stay there. By having Bethany in the Circle, it satisfies the headcanon problem of why supposedly "my" Hawke (who shows up in Inquisition no matter what) stays in Kirkwall; they've got her sister, so she sticks around to make sure she's okay.

Always send her to the circle, always kill her in the end.

I usually go with making her a circle mage just based on what I would have done when faced with the decision. If I were Hawke and Hawke's mom came up to me saying "You might die down there, at least one of you should stay." I probably would have agreed. Not just to placate her but also because...well Hawke's mom has a point. The deep roads expedition is very dangerous and puts everyone involved at risk of dying. If things go poorly then Leandra loosing all of her children would darn near kill her. Also she's Hawke's little sister, so there's a sense of wanting to protect her from that end of things as well.
Plus, Bethany didn't seem as adamant on going as Carver was.
Family, by the way, is also a major reason I end up siding with the mages at the end. Beth is Hawke's sister and Hawke is running quickly out of family by the endgame. Well that and the realization that a lot of these mages are someone's brother/sister as well.

I prefer Warden Bethany because I like the Wardens. If the Kirkwall Circle weren't a hellhole of blood mages and rapist Templars I'd always send her there.

I like the tension that comes from Bethany being taken to the Circle. It's basically a prison and she occasionally gets used as a hostage to make Hawke do stuff. To me it's really cathartic at the end when I side with the Mages and it's Hawke and Bethany finally fighting back at the institution that caused them so much grief since the moment they were born.

I always found Bethany to be happier, or at least less ticked off at me, as a member of the Circle. I don't like the idea of my sister under the constant threat of being made tranquil, but it seems to be her preferred fate. Plus it makes for a richer story line.

Whereas Carver the Warden really grows up as a person in all the good ways, Bethany the Warden seems to go cold and bitter. So although my Hawkes don't like the idea of her being in the Circle (which just pretty much happens to be the most f****d up Circle in Thedas), it does seem to be her preference and, like other people said, it makes for richer storytelling.

She accepts her destiny later on, she even says that she used to blame you but she is now happy. In another playthrough leave her behind sure, there's no point playing the same way over and over
I agree she does seem to accept he rdestiny in the end and the fact she dosen't hold the decision's you make against you although I think she does kind of look sexy in the warden armour than she does in the circle robes plus as a warden she dosen't have to worry about the Templars or circle. I think either way it dosen't really matter too much in the overall context of the game she'll help you out when you need it same with Carver. Although playing both ways is interesting

She seems more content in the Circle than she does as a Warden... but it kinda makes me want to give her a smack. Not really, because it isn't my place to tell her what should make her happy. But still.
Her whole life, all she ever wanted was to be "normal". No magic. No need to hide. As if her magic were some kind of curse inflicted upon her because she was bad. If she couldn't be rid of her magic, then she wanted to be treated like any other mage, locked away in a Circle. Again, as if her very existence were a crime. Sure, I suppose it's possible - even likely - that she has a martyr complex, but the Circle is for life. She went in expecting to die there. Depending on the Hawke, she may very literally die there. Eventually, during the events of The Last Straw, she becomes a bit more assertive about her fate, but I'll spend the entire rest of the game muttering at the screen, encouraging her to stand up for herself. She turns out OK in the end though... mostly.

It's all about how you want the story to turn out. As I've been smoking for over a decade, I can definitely tell you that an individual's enjoyment can conflict with what's best for their helath. Many a parent have also forced their children to do something they didn't enjoy, because it's what was best for them. Bethany will eventually grow to accept (unless you kill her) that you love your sibling and tried to do your best you could for her, no matter what choice you make.

Both Hawke siblings eventually make peace with their new situations, but they do better in different fields. Bethany wants to be normal. in the circle she is. Carver wants to be special, and in the wardens he is.

Grey Warden.
Bethany might be happier in the Circle, but taking her long on the Deep Roads and needing to make her a Warden to save her from the Blight, makes for a better story. I'm also holding out hope that we'll run into Warden Bethany/Carver at Weisshaupt in a future game.
