 Hey!

I know some people don't even care what kind of mice, keyboard or headset they use, I sure didn't before year or two ago. Anyway, I just broke my mouse (Razer Naga), after the scroll stopped working and my disassembly.. went wrong. *coughs*

Now I am in need of new mouse for FPS/MMO purposes. I liked Razer Naga a lot, but the scroll breaking down bothers me. Also 18 buttons on mouse is fun, but 12 of them are placed in a way, that I have hard time using them efficiently.

So now I am looking for new mouse and possibly new keyboard. Any recommendations? I'd require at least 2-3 extra buttons on the mouse. Keyboards I don't know too much of, my current ones are pretty cheap and simple. ^_^

I'd given Razer's products a serious look since they're popular with gamers, but one thing always seems to come up which is apparently their lack of longevity: I don't want to spend £50-100 on a mouse only to have it break down within months, even though I can probably get a refund.

I've recently been looking into the subject of gaming mouse replacements, too: which is something suitable for gaming rather than dedicated. My previous mouse was a Logitech Revolution MX which was really bloody awful in every way and was also exhibiting a serious case of that short-lived problem. I was going to shy off Logitech products altogether but a number of people independently recommended their older G5 mouse which I have to say has been excellent. I've had none of the general malfunctioning problems and it feels much more solidly built, and as an added bonus the odd swelling that my thumb was starting to develop has mostly gone away: seems I can thank the MX for that problem too.

Only problem with the G5 is that AFAIK they don't make them any longer so you'll need to find somewhere that still has them in stock, but they seem a pretty good bet, especially with the ludicrously named UberOptions installed.

In terms of keyboards, the Unicomp clicky series keyboards are very hard to beat and are among the best I've used (though I would strongly recommend the buckling spring models: the rubber dome ones aren't so great) and considering what's on offer these days they may actually be the best you can get. I had an ill-advised foray into the world of Microsoft's Sidewinder series which had some nice features such as backlighting and media controls, but after just a couple of months the coating started peeling off and the lack of height adjustment started causing more RSI-type problems. As with the Logitech mouse, replacing it with something better designed has been a big improvement.

I suppose it is strange that people in general don't pay more attention to the bits of the computer they actually interface with: but all those fancy CPU, memory and graphics specifications mean little if the mouse, keyboard and screen suck. But before I sound too clever for my own good, I didn't really appreciate it either until someone pointed it out rather bluntly to me...

What in the hell is that thing, I don't know if its a mouse, or a bomb made to look like a mouse.

@Vometia: Thank you for your reply. I've heard about G5 as well, my friends have had it for while. I couldn't find it from stores in the past and now all I can find is G5000, that is supposedly based on G5. No idea, if that's any good.
The thing with mice is, that they're pretty unique for each person. How it fits and such. I've had problems with my former Logitech mouses because they were too bulky and such. I guess I could give them a second look, but yeah.. My Razer was almost 1.5 years old when it broke down, I am not even sure, if it truly broke.

I never got to look in the inside, people didn't seem to know, if you were supposed able to disassemble the mouse in the first place. The new editions seem to have some customizing options, but still not sure if you can disassemble it.
I'll look into that keyboard, I was thinking about buying Cataclysm Keyboard from SteelSeries, but I haven't had any experience with their products in the past. I've always used ''regular'' keyboards and focused on mice and headsets.

The price isn't that much of an issue as long as it doesn't go over 100 euros and it works.

Edit: I suppose you meant this? www.youtube.com/watch
