I agree. I felt like the Daelish elf origin was short, unfinished and really fast in the way it shoved you along. It seemed so less fleshed out and believable than the others, all of which I enjoyed.

I liked the mage origin. It had three small dungeons and plenty of story.

City elf origin felt too short (only one dungeon and not much story).

I'm looking forward to the Human and Dwarf origins, since they sound decently epic. Not much interest in playing a Dalish Elf (yawn, wood elves), but I suppose I will eventually for the achievement.

The Dalish Elf origin is by far my favorite. It wasn't any shorter than the human noble one, if length is your problem. They're all really short, though.

The dwarf commoner is by far the worst. The arena combat is lame, the story is lamer, and it in no way makes me care about the character.

Dalish Elf actually has one of the best segways into becoming a Grey Warden alongside the Dwarf Noble. I would actually say the Dalish Elf has a better transition.

It may not be the strongest in other respects. But at least it (along with Dwarf Noble) give you a hint of a the Blight threat early on.

Dalish elf was kinda bland. I couldn't even find out anything about my parents. I asked and the lady avoided me.

The Dalish Origin has quite a bit of depth if you look hard enough and think about what's happening to you. The story of the PC's parents is a little cliched, but it's fascinating that it was deliberately kept from the PC for so many years. Other than that there is a lot of depth in the Clan and its interactions with you. Saying goodbye to them was a very emotional scene, and one of the better send-offs for any of the origins.

The worst sendoff in my opinion is the dwarf noble. It comes down to forced luck of actually finding the Grey Wardens in tunnel X, and them accepting you pretty much by reputation alone.

My fav origin was the Dwarven Noble. I played a female and getting the chance to talk through Gorim and such was great. I was going to be all mean to the guy per my character persona, but I soon came to love Gorim, and wished he would be a romancable/party character for my dwarf later. Esp when he escapes!

Mage was my least favorite. Very slow, fade was small, not that spectacular.

The others.. I liked the human noble, though a bit cliche, I found the characters and story very good. When my chars brother told her he wanted her to fight with him, and would miss her, I shed a tear.

Dalish.. It was a bit short, but I loved how it started you right out on the action. The second half wasn't as good. Going back into it..

City Elf... I liked it. I played a female, which sounds like its a bit better than the male side. Nothing fancy, but good.

Dwarf Commoner... maybe its the way i played it, but I didn't like this one much. Better than the mage, but not as good as the others.

Really? It doesn't seem like Duncan has the highest standards in that he took Daveth and Jory in?

Admittedly in the other origins it seems like he has higher standards. But you are a commander in the Dwarf Noble.

I thought the Human Noble was the worst send  off.

Dwarf Noble was by far my favorite. Although my Blood Dragon Armor disappears when I'm thrown into the Deep Roads with just a sword & shield so that sort of ticks me off =\\. But I've played the dwarf noble origin at least 6 times to try and see all the different dialogue choices and such. Very fun.

My least favorite was probably the Dwarf Commoner for some reason. Probably just the Dwarf Noble in me looking down my nose at a worthless dwarf without a caste.

I thought all of them were good except the mage one, that one was arse. I had already played through the whole game once and I had no idea what I was doing. Much of the dialogue in the fade was confusing. Why was the sloth demon a bear? Wtf?

Yeah I definitely agree. At first I thought The Dalish origin would be one of the more interesting origins. But it felt half done to me...

Dalish was very short semi-evocative but short. I am partial to Dwarf Commoner, Dwarf Nonle, and Human Noble myself.

Dalish elf can be touching, but it requires you to talk to people around the camp a lot and get in the mood. You get a really close knit family feeling, and thus when you are forced to leave, it's supposed to be very sad. Plus you've lost your friend.

I liked all of them. My favorite was the city elf as a female (my first complete playthrough). I also liked both the noble ones a lot. The human noble one, in particular, surprised me, I didn't expect it to be all that good, but despite being cliched, it's so well done it turns out to be very powerful and moving. I really came out of that hating Howe with all my heart. I also wasn't very pleased with Duncan in that origin: the forced recruitment pissed me off since it risks ending the Cousland line if my remaining brother is dead.

It's not really about his "standards" per se. I have no idea what he saw in Jory or Daveth, but we aren't in a position in game to find out. It just felt to me like I hadn't actually earned the right myself to join them.
Finding the Wardens in the tunnels was just random luck, and it felt silly since who knows how much time passes before and after you're sentenced. I may have earned the right to be a commander or whatever behind the scenes, but all Duncan knows is my reputation, and he seems to just say "Okay, come with us! " without any actual reason other than my reputation. He doesn't even seem to think about it. I half expected Duncan to simply apologize for my fate and walk off on his own.

The human noble I liked. Duncan makes it clear he's interested in you from the get-go, and then you prove it by slicing your way through who knows how many Howe guards.

really? I liked the Daelish origin far more than the human noble one. The human noble origin was too much like the beginning of every lame fantasy book ever, at least the Daelish one was somewhat original. That being said the dwarf noble and mage origins are by far the strongest.

I also had a problem with the mage story. All other origins have you join the Wardens because you HAVE to *spoilers*

Dwarf Noble - thrown into dep roads would die if you didnt join

Dwarf commoner - excecuted or killed by the cartel

Dalish elf - tainted

City elf - once again, would be excecuted

Human Noble - would be killed

Mage -......someone know the reason?

Also i liked the Dalish elf Origin. Learning the lore was fun and the cave crawling wasnt really a cave. Plus it was intresting in its concept. Explore a cave, find a mirror, infected with the taint. Though my favourite is the city elf with Sheani (i think thats her name, your cousin) it was sad when you come to rescue her and find out you were to late. Also the city elf makes for a good bit of fun later on, exspecially when the character you romance finds out you were married XD

I think the fact that you survived your way through the deep roads, alone, with nothing but a sword and shield, is a little more than 'going on reputation'. Not to mention that's what he bases several of his recruitments on. Human Noble he was interested in you on your reputation, same as a city elf. Not to mention as a dwarf you have actual experience fighting actual darkspawn.

Meh. The mage one is too... magey, for me. I adore the human noble one, though. Albeit, after the origin, I was HIGHLY disappointed by the lack of vengeance and the complete absence of your brother for, oh, 99.9% of the game.

You survived your way through 3 minutes of tunnels and then had the luck of a god on your side that the Wardens were standing three feet from the tunnel's exit.
It's not so much how it actually plays out that bugs me so much as how it felt. And it felt cheap and undeserved to me. I know Duncan doesn't see the Dalish elf in combat really either, but at least that has the taint corruption to lend it some credibility in Duncan being interested. That's part of why I like the Dalish origin so much. It's a good mix of having already proven yourself and still feeling like a fresh recruit that needs to prove yourself worthy further.

In the human noble origin Duncan intends to test you, he is NOT going on reputation, that's just what attracts him there. After surviving an attempt on your life and fighting through half of Howe's army is when he realises you're worthy.

Pretty much the same for the city elf origin too.

I was disappointed most with the human noble origin. It was 20 minutes of happy family, and then you spend the next hour fighting with occasional comments from your mom about someone being dead as you enter a room.

I would've liked to have had at least one day being a human noble -before- Howe and Duncan arrived.

Human Noble was enjoyable, you definetly got the idea that your family loved you. I like how Duncan says you're a good candidate for the Grey Wardens, and your father faces him and says "No way This here's my son."

Dwarf Noble was simply epic. Everything about it was cool, from how locals responded to you and the scheming of your brothers and best of all your loyal bodyguard. No the Dog is no replacement for Gorim sorry.

Can anyone whose played through the entire game as a Dalish Elf comment on how the origin ties in with later plot points.

While all the origins are pretty short, certain origins feel like they mesh better with the story and help to support it than others. For instance, both the Human Noble and City Elf origin--I feel--really help flesh out Denerim--which felt hollow without--and the Dwarven Noble builds upon the succession crisis in Orzammar (not sure what the Dwarf Commoner has to offer). As for the mage...eh. The Dalish Elf origin, however, seems to be the most disconnected from the events occurring within Ferelden at the time and thereby adding little to the story comparatively.

Am I completely off the mark? I really like the idea of playing as a Dalish, and find it provides one of the more compelling reasons to join the Grey Wardens, but I'm not sure I want to make a substantial investment in the origin if it offers so little long-term charm.

Can anyone quell my admittedly baseless apprehension?

I actually liked the Dalish origin. You learn alot about them and, by the time it ended, I felt proud to be an elf.
