I'm at the start of Act 3. My Hawke romanced her in Act 2

On the journal, I have the quest "A talking to"

If I go to Merrill's home in the Alianage, as soon as I enter, a cutscene starts to play and I don't know what the hell is she talking about
She's crying in front of the mirror and she says "She's gone, she's really gone"

After that cutscene, Merrill is there and I can really play the "A talking to" quest.

I think there's a mod to fix Merrill's storyline, but I can't find it. Anyone ?

Also, my Hawke has the ability to teleport Merrill into the estate as she pleases

Here's how

Estate (w/o Merrill) -> Black Emporium (or somewhere else) -> Back to estate (w/o Merrill) -> Selection party screen -> Destination screen, canceled-> You're still in the estate, but now Merrill is there with a quest icon on her head. You can't talk to her, all she says is something about Sandal watching her....
I can reproduce that as long a Talking to quest is on the journal.

I don't know about a mod, but there's instructions on the Wiki (here) to use the console to trigger her Act 3 quest if it's not triggering itself.

The cutscene still plays out of order and there's no fix for that AFAIK.

It's a known bug. Last we heard is that they're working on it.

Thanks.

I saw that, but it says "A talking to" should be played prior to any of this, which I can't do.
If I go to Merrill's home, the mysteriuos cutscene plays.
Can't do it either with the magically spawned Merrill at Hawke's estate, she won't talk

Is it a romance related bug? I didn't have this problem in my previous run, where my Hawke romanced Isa
Merrill's storyline was fine.

There are some theories floating around that it is a friendship/rivalry bug. Some people claim that everything proceeds normally when you don't have Merrill's friendship/rivalry maxed out before you start "a talking to". But I've also heard that it is a combination of high friendship and romance. We don't know, but Mary Kirby (Merrill's writer) was promised this would be fixed in "the patch" (her words).

This run, Merrill's friendship got maxed out pretty quickly, he....

A strange thing happened (or unexpected for me)

In my previuos run, in Act 2, when I did the Mirror Image quest, Merrill wasn't at 100% friendship.
To see her reaction, I denied the elven tool thingy. Bum, 125 rivalry points in one sitting.

In this current pt, Merrill was already at 100% friendship at the time of that quest. Again, to see what would happen, didn't give her the tool. Pretty much the same reaction, but no rivalry points whatsoever.

I don't know if the friendship/rivalry system is supposed to work like that. I mean, apparentely, once you reach some extreme, it gets locked and it can't change its value.

Yeah, once you are at full rival/friend they are locked into that mode for the rest of the game. No more friend/rival points are given.

Maybe the whole idea is once you gain a character's trust, or distrust, they stick to that opinion of you, in essence, even if you do something that they dont necessarily approve or disapprove of.

Oh, thanks for the clarification.
I knew not everything was a bug

From what I've been able to gather the bug seems to only occur if you took your sibling into the Deep Roads. I know that in my first playthrough where I left Bethany at home, Merrill worked fine, but when I took her along the second time, I got this bug. Honestly, this is one of those bugs that just destroys my interest in playing anymore. If they get it fixed, I'll be all over it again, but otherwise, I guess it's good that I just bought The Witcher.

I recommend not playing the game until there is a patch... rumor has it, this or next week.

BTW - the reason for the delayed patch is supposedly because of the hoops bioware/EA has to jump through to release any content on a console.
That being said, I am going on the assumption the PC patch is delayed for a simultaneous release.

yeah that bug made me stop completely - the worse part is that I hit "save" as soon as Merril spewed her spoilers... so i'm hoping the patch fixes that coming up.
Most of all, I wish I could forget what she said, because that just ruined the story for me: find it hard to even want to continue, patch or not.

I can believe that.  If memory serves, the DLC for Origins was always delayed for the PS3 version for the same reason.  I guess I can't blame them though since companies like Sony want to be sure stuff works before it goes live.  And you could be right about holding off until all three systems are ready to go because people just seem to get worked up about perceived preferential treatment.  Regardless, I'm done until this gets fixed.  I finished it once already, so it's not like I'm dying to see how things turn out.

Nothing to do with the sibling. I left mine at home, still got it. I'm positive it has to do with maximizing friendship/rivalry too early.

I've read that too.  I can't remember where my meter was with Merrill at certain points, but I'm pretty sure it was maxed out sooner than the first time, considering that I knew what the "right" answers were for her this time around.  I guess the only people that can get it nailed down for sure are at Bioware.
