I apologise if this has been addressed somewhere and I'm missing it, but I have a couple questions I'm hoping to get answerd.

I'm looking for a way to export a head morph from a save game and turn it into a preset during character creation. I'm wondering if it's currently possible, seeing as how we have some [many] companion head morph edits around and can even use some of them as presets via a current chargen mod.

After spending way] too many hours trying to perfect my Hawke, I'd like to get his face moprh saved and set up for easy access and replayability (I'm really just looking to restart my game, but I doubt I could recreate him with how senstive the sliders in DAII are).

I did the same thing in Origins via the toolset, but of course, that's not exactly possible for DAII right now.

If you know a way to do this, the help or direction to somewhere else that already answers my question would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Make a new game with your choice of Hawke. Pick the preset, skin tone, and possibly eye colour that defines your resulting family, set your name and DAO import details.

Save the new game.

Use pyGff editor, run editor.exe, open the source savegame (whatever.das) from your favourite character that contains the morph you want to transfer.

Run another instance of editor.exe and open your newly created Hawke save game (destination.das).

Copy the morph data from the source save game at index 16950 (SAVEGAME_PLAYER_MORPH) and paste it over the same entry in the destination save game.

File/Save, overwrite the destination save and load it in DAII. You should have the transplanted face.

Make sure you backup your source (and possibly destination) save games prior to editing with pygff editor to avoid user error destroying a save game.

As much as I hate to ask this- how exactly are you copying? I'm selecting the line, right clicking, etc., but the data never goes to my clipboard.

Edited because I'm an idiot: Figured out that it wouldn't paste into a word processor but works otherwise. What an easy face switch!

Caveat: Something either doesn't transfer or doesn't save.

The morph goes over fine and will work perfectly in the normal game. If you try to use the Black Emporium mirror to change/update your face however, it will reset to your chargen preset.

I saw that! It seems like a minor enough issue in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks. I ended up figuring that out myself eventually. XD I was more hoping to find a way to extract the face as a .MOP so I could add it as a preset, but that doesn't currently seem possible.

The one thing that apparently I've heard is that, when entering and exiting the Hawke Estate the face which was copied over (using your method) will revert. I haven't had a chance to test this out myself, however.

Face replacer from DAO, available at the dragonagenexus will let you export your morph to a mop file (version 1.20 will). Unfortunately, the game's CC mucks up reading the mop data, it will only vaguely resemble your face in the character generator.

One thing I haven't tried is specifying the mop file directly in the save file, like was common practice in the days of DAO. Entering the mor file name into SAVEGAME_APPEARANCE_MORPH_NAME and having the mor/mop in the override folder (or perhaps in an erf).

Well that doesn't work.

Entering Hawke estate doesn't worry the basic transfer of morph data via copy/paste or via exporting to a file from pygff and importing into another save.  Its only using the mirror of transformation to 'touch things up' that causes the face to reset, for some reason.

Any excuse not to touch that damnable mirror is good in my opinion :)

Yeah, I agree. That mirror was been my (and Hawke's downfall) many times over. I'll be all "Hmm, maybe I should..." and then my Hawke ends up looking worse, or like an abomination from some angle, all because I wanted to adjust a hair style and ended up thinking his cheeks needing tweaking too. Ugh.

The problem comes when I finally "perfect" the morph I want at the end of the bloody game.

Thanks for testing the Estate issue, by the way. Guess I'll give this method a go and see if anything strange happens. (DA:O Fade, I'm looking at you!)

I wanted to bump this.

I was toying around with some things, and found that while it is possible to override the default Hawke preset (shown by this video here (not mine)) it unfortunately reverts as soon as you hit the character creator.

So, so close, yet so far away. Sadly, I don't think there's a way to work around that, or at least I haven't found one yet. =.=

It looks like savegame_player_morph string is duplicated at the end of the savegame. You only see the string one under 16950 but when you open a *.das with notepad, you find the string two times.

I still don't have found a way to replace the second string. Notepad leads to a corrupted das...
