And don't get me started on that smith. I love how in a game with multiple options for just about anybody, you have no option to beat the smarmy little jackass untill he gives you the pickaxes for free with a smile.

Also, there's minor rp-benefit, for having a perfectly valid explanation how Hawke can feed 4-5 people and keep up an estate over seven years without loosing a single copper

The only thing that came out of it was the champion armor you get off the high-dragon. But at that stage in the game you can easily find armor just as strong elsewhere in the game.
As much as i'd like to see one... Somehow i don't think bioware is going to make a DLC that expands the bone pit storyline.
1. become a partner in the bone-pit
2. Waste money, time and effort in deal with monsters, looters, lack of equipment and dragons.
3. ???????
4. PROFIT!!!
Somehow i missed 3 and 4 in my playthrough.....

I thought there'd be some profit out of it later. But noooooooooooo. Apparently your highly profitable mine generates thin air as revenue.

I thought I completely missed a letter or didn't talk to an NPC. So the whole point of taking over the mine completely was basically just to say you own a mine?

At least reward the player with something other than some measly 1000xp. How about 3000xp. Some nice armor. A nice weapon. A tome.
Maybe a Moth-Eaten Scarf and a Moldy Rag Doll at the very least!

15 sovereigns for 1000xp is a bargain, just game the game with items that add to gold and item drops.
That 1000xp is going to push you closer to another talent which is about the only real advantage in game.
This said the whole money and reward system, and pay off an npc was very fouled up.
Take the quest about woodrows wharehouse, the bribe is two gold, the quest reward is 2 gold.
You pay more for less, npc's get more for nothing.

The whole bone pit storyline was a monumental let-down.
You don't need to do the bone pit for this to happen. The only thing that came out of it was the champion armor you get off the high-dragon.

I don't remember ever paying anyone anything for expenses regarding the mine.
You didn't do all the optional quests. I've discovered you are better off doing the first two and then never coming back to the mine for the third.
Basically in Act 2, after you complete "Inside Job" for your "partner", if you go to the mine, you will have three optional quests. Two are your typical (and short) run and slay for a handful of XP quests. The third is highway robbery (by act of greedy smith).

It bugged me no end that in Act 3, when all was laid waste, all the money I spend on safety equipment and miner morale was basically meaningless. It would have made me much happier to know that What's-his-name... you know, the cute red-haired miner... escaped.
Edit: Jensen. I wish Jensen escaped the Act 3 slaughter. Or quit before it all went down. Something. I would have loved to have run into him in Act 3, when he was drunk, probably, and had him go "I should have stopped at 'bigger dragons.'"

Mining in a monster infested hellhole isn't a very good way to make a profit. Hubert is blatantly engaging in the sunk costs fallacy; he's invested too much into the Bone Pit to stop investing now, even though he knows that he's only going to lose more money, because of his vain hope that the mine will turn a profit.
Yep and so are you if you do all three quests. The best (optitum) approach is to demand payment upfront to be a partner, and then after "Inside" job, visit the mine TWICE for a small amount of loot and decent XP...and leave it at that.

I bet they'll be some DLC that gives you a nice mining simulation game if you own the bone pit.
Quests include:
- - Mining
- - running away from Dragons
- - running away from the Undead
- - More mining
Actually now I have that written down I think I would buy that ...

It was one of only two times during three play-throughs that I reloaded a game because I was unhappy with the outcome of a decision.
