I thought someone said she could be a non companion L.I., though I don't think that's true, anyone know anything more about her?

I found Orana to be very sweet. I wish there had been more interaction with her between Hawke and companions.

She really would be dead if you let her free. There's no way she'd survive outside of Hawke's help or enslaving.

And according to Bodhan in Act 3 she never leaves the mansion.

unfortunately she has very little to say and just vanishes after Act2 never to be seen or heard from again. I was hoping for at least some conversation between her and Sandal

I made her a servant, although in one playthrough I told Fenris she was my slave just to annoy him (I did actually pay her though, I just didn't tell him)
Personally I love the way he curses in elven then spits if you go that way.

Pretty sure he curses you in Tevinter, seeing how he never speaks Elven in the rest of the game.
He does a couple of times, don't remember where exactly but I'm sure he has some grasp of elven.
Besides Tevinter would sound Latiny.

At any rate, though, Tevinter doesn't sound very Latiny at all. Trust me on that. Out of all the Tevinter phrases he's used in the game, I think there was a grand total of one Latinate word (victoria) and a few "Latiny" sounding words, such as "festis" or "canavarum."
However, it's useful to note that by this point in (real life) history, most languages had started to develop into the vernacular. Certainly, Tevinter sounds like a mix of pretend Italian and pretend Latin, which probably makes sense.
Of course, by this stage in Byzantine history (approx 12th century), the official state language was still Attic Greek. We can see educated Byzantines such as Her Imperial Highness, the Princess Anna Comnena writing in highly archaicizing Attic that wouldn't have been out of place in classical Athens. Of course, that sort of literary Attic was in a sense very artificial starting from the Hellenistic and Roman periods because they decided the prestige dialect of the great tragedians (as well as the philosophers) ought to be preserved, regardless of how common people spoke: by the Byzantine period, common koine Greek (as seen in the Bible) was even unintelligible by the average medieval Greek speaker.
So the Italio-Latinate Tevinter that Fenris uses is probably fitting for a slave or a commoner. It's possible that the magisters still use ancient Tevinter as a language of state. Of course, it's also possible that they don't, since the writers aren't bound by history.

You don't need to be able to read to learn a language by speaking/listening.

And I was like SHUT UP MOM I'M PAYING HER IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK.
Actually, on my first playthrough, mom just hummed all the time as she stood in front of the fire. I thought it was creepy. I thought maybe, just maybe, Carver's death and Bethany being taken to the circle, as well as her eldest being indecisive and snarky and telling her not to go out and have fun because MOM SHOULD MAKE ME SANDWICHES BECAUSE SANDAL NEVER WASHES HIS HANDS... All that drove her insane -- to the point where all she could do was stare at the fire, stand beside the dog, and hum. On the second, all she did was complain that I was friends with elves. Bigot.

All she says is that your elven friends are really strange. Which they are!
