What are your thoughts
when choosing who will accompany you on a mission? Do you go for the
characters with the most useful abilities, or do you simply choose
your favourites? Do you always stick with the same few? Or do you try
to use everyone that's available?

Personally I like to
try and stick to sense immersion story-wise, and take who feels best
for each individual mission. I often found myself thinking 'Jack
simply wouldn't care about this mission' or 'Tali wouldn't agree with
it'.

How about you guys?

I always choose the ones who fit my character's abilities most so I can make some pretty cool combos. If I'm playing as my Femshep, I usually go with Samara and Garrus or Grunt. If I'm playing as my Maleshep, I always go with Mordin and Garrus or Grunt.

I like to use the Biotic/Warrior combo or Biotic/Warrior/Engineer combo. It works well. For instance, I have Samara use pull, then my Femshep and Garrus/Grunt hit the enemy with Concussive Rounds. If I use pull while playing as my Adept Maleshep, I have Garrus/Grunt hit with concussive shots while Mordin hits it with Incinerator, Cryo, etc.

Needless to say though, on loyalty missions I have to improvise. For Tali's loyalty mission for example, I took Samara with me and Tali when I played as Femshep. When I played as Maleshep I took Garrus/Grunt.

Personally, I'm fine with the asthetics so long as they're very Mass Effect-esque, and the gameplay should be a combination of the first and second game.

the first runthrough i chose the fancy aliens cus they looked cool. (especially grunt) but my second third and fourth runs i went with an all cerberus group. i rly like their logo/colorschemes (black orange and white or black yellow and white). i made my shepard use the cerberus armor (or my own black with orange striped armor). have miranda in her fancy dlc armor and jacob in his sidemission suit. makes it look like a cool cerberus sqaud. and i find the combo of jacob and miranda to be very effective.

It depends on the Mission. As I main an Infiltrator, who I bring with me is of surprisingly low consquence. The A.I. can be thick as a brick sometimes, and I've often just ended up soloing the encounter.

Sometimes I choose a squaddie because I go, "Hrm. I need a meat-shield. Grunt." Sometimes I go, "Hrm. I need a shotgun. Grunt." Other times I go, "Who haven't I used in a while?" Yet other times I go, "Who might have funny dialog here?"

Other classes make me consider things more carefully. My other two - a Vanguard and an Engineer - both have to consider a few more factors outside of, "Who's going to allow me to get the most headshots off?"

However, I really like the freedom of squaddies for the Infiltrator. It means I can bring very fragile characters on the more brutal missions (like Mordin/Tali/Miranda to the Reaper larva) and the less fragile characters make some levels almost laughably easy except on Insanity if I find that I'm too tired and can't joystick my aim that night.
