Ok, I've searched and searched for this with no luck. Apparently everyone does Fenris's quest right away instead of telling him it'll have to wait, and getting reambushed. I'm trying to rivalmance him, and I've done everything that the wiki says, except to get more rivalry I tell him that we'll get around to it. Does that automatically ruin the romance option back at the estate? Do you have to go immediately to the cave and complete the quest? Anyone done it differently or successfully rivalmanced him?

From what I've heard, you will eventually get ambushed by some of Hadriana's goonies and Fenris will angrily demand that you take care of the issue NOW (as well as gaining a large rivalry increase). If you continue to procrastinate, he will leave your party forever.

So yes, if he leaves it'll ruin the romance scene. :-P

You can put him off once, but at the second ambush he'll leave the party if you don't agree to go with him.

That I've figured out. Thanks for trying to help though. What I want to know is if making him wait, makes it impossible for him to stay the night. I get the conversation, and he's at the level of rivalry where it doesn't matter what I say, he'll leave. No romance scene. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong, and if instead of making him wait for his mission, I need to just go there right away.

Ok here's the rundown for clarification.
Start Act 2:Visit Fenris, flirt do all romance options, he says I'm beautiful and if I'm seeing anyone else; I say to repeat the beautiful part and that I'm a apostate mage does that bother him. +5 Friendship I believe.
Take him to the Gallows; side with mages big Rivalry.
Take him on quest Night Terrors make a deal with demon; huge rivalry. Get his Book of Shartan tell him it's unique(harsh option) and romance option; Rivalry points.
Get his quest Bitter Pill to activate. Ask hunters about a deal; big rivalry. Tell Fenris to calm down; rivalry. Tell him I've got better things to do right now; huge Rivalry.
Wait till ambushed again. Tell him to calm down; huge Rivalry. Go and do the mission, tell the elf girl she can work for me, I'll pay her (supposedly have to do this for romance). +5 Friendship
Let him handle Hadriana, star option, romance option. Rivalry +5 he tells me not to comfort him.
Go to my estate do all romance options (tried all options with the romance option) he leaves +5 rivalry. No love scene. What am I doing wrong? I think it's making him wait to do the Bitter Pill mission till we're ambushed again.

*EDIT Should be noted I've had a lesbian fling with Isabela, but I told her I didn't want to bring feelings into it, it was just for fun. The wiki says this is ok, and won't stop any other romance.

He will approach you after killing Hadriana.  Are you in a romance with anyone else?  If you are in romance with either Anders or Merrill, they will both supercede a Fenris romance.  He will never come by for a night of lubbin.

Romance with Isabela should be ok.

Though I never did the rivalmance.  Maybe with rivalmance you need 100% rivalry?  I always had 100% friendship, though.  He always went for me after Hadriana.

I'm doing a romance with Anders but haven't asked him to move in, or gotten any farther than him telling me not to tempt him.
I've had the scene after Hadriana, but when I tell him to stay he says he'd better go for both of us. Never can get the romance scene. I'm really thinking it's because I don't go and do his mission, but make him wait. Can anyone confirm this theory?

I guess it's a little different with the rivalmance. I read somewhere that if you tell him not to go in a rivalmance, he will leave anyway. Just go do a few quests, then come back to your house. He should come back.

However, if you invite Anders over at all, whether you ask him to move in or not, it's over. Fenris will not come back.

Yeah I've recently seen videos where he leaves, but you can go right back and he'll come charging up to you. I've also seen a video where he has all the rivalry dialog, but you can get him to stay and have the romance scene right then. I'm not doing anything with Anders as I haven't gotten his mission yet.

Anyone know or have successfully gotten the first scene with him where he glows blue and you can actually get him to stay?

You have to do his Questioning Beliefs quest before you complete A Bitter Pill.  Then he'll be glowy and stay.  At least, that's what worked in my friendmance with him.

Ok thanks. Does his QB quest start right after you talk to him the first time? If not how do I get it to start? When should I give him the book? does it matter?

Questioning Beliefs triggers in Act 2 once you've achieved 50% friendship or rivalry. If you already reached 50% (like I did) in Act 1 it will trigger at the very start of Act 2.

I'm glad I saw this thread, it explains why Fenris hasn't shown up at my house even though I completed QB already.

If I've done all the things in my rundown to get rivalry I should be at 50% or past right? Did you go friendship or rivalry? and if rivalry does it matter if you make him wait to complete Bitter Pill (to get more rivalry), ie does that effect if he'll stay or not when you ask?

Rival or Friend it doesn't matter. I've done both.

It's Questioning Beliefs that triggers the sex scene with Fenris. Until you do it, you WILL NOT get the romance scene, of which there are two.

If you do Questioning Beliefs BEFORE A Bitter Pill, you can initiate the romance scene at the conclusion of A Bitter Pill at Hawke's Estate via the flirt option (you will get a glowy wall shove). If you haven't done QB, there will be no flirt option and Fenris will simply leave. HOWEVER, you don't have to select the flirt icon. If you don't, Fenris will still leave, and you can get the below scene instead.

If you do Questioning Beliefs AFTER A Bitter Pill (or let Fenris leave), he will be waiting at Hawke's Estate in the evening and proposition you. He will not glow in this scene, but you get a passionate kiss that isn't in the first one.

So, you can get either the kiss scene or the sex scene, but not both?

The scenes are different and both lead to sex, and you can't get both.

Version one Fenris glows and shoves you against the wall, you kiss him then shove HIM against the wall, more kissing, fade to black.

Version two (when he approaches you) you get a passionate kiss (no glow or him shoving), you still shove him against the wall, more kissing, fade to black.

You can see both in one game if you have done QB before ABP. Just save before going home. Flirting with Fen will give you version one. Not flirting will give you access to version two if you go home in the evening when he's waiting for you. :)

Ah, thanks for the clarification, my dear Shadow. I will be sure to save where instructed (and probably never overwrite it. Because, you know, MOAR FENRIS PLZ!

Thanks so much Shadow for clarifying that. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out what if anything I was doing wrong. The wiki really needs an update, or better instructions, as I followed it word for word, and still couldn't get it to trigger.

My pleasure :) I'd update the wiki myself if I could be bothered making an account XD
