As king, he wouldn't only be involved in diplomacy, and when it wasn't secret and urgent, he could send diplomats. He tells you (as king) that Ferelden hasn't exactly been at peace, so it's a good bet that he still engages in his share of fighting. He is one of the most formidable warriors in the kingdom, after all. I don't think he lacks for opportunities to kick butt and take names.
But he probably has a hankering to do some of the work himself, like sizing up the champion of Kirkwall, but as for kicking butt I'm with you... and if he wants some back to basics wardening, well there's always Orzammar and Amaranthine...

Yeah, I don't actually see him disliking all aspects of diplomacy. He'd want to draw his own conclusions about someone who was gaining so much power on Ferelden's border (sort of.) And he's a social and likable guy--goodlooking when not in DA2.Maria13 wrote...

Gone over this in another topic, suffice to say you're saying it's better to lose potential allies in Kirkwall rather than the Qunari.. who, being Qunari are likely to say "No." anyway?
Consider: with or without Grey Warden involvement, one side will win, one side will lose. Without Warden intervention, no matter which wins they are a potential ally (to vary degrees of likelihood). With Warden involvement there is one potential ally, one potential enemy. From the perspective of the Wardens greater purpose, the choice is clear.
Alistair at least seems to be acting under orders and uncomfortable with it. Stroud on the other hand shows no reservations whatsoever.
That just goes to show that Stroud is a more commited leader of the Grey Wardens. He understands that the Wardens' purpose supercedes any and all other problems.
30 year death sentence vs. imminent death or becoming a ghoul?
This is even debatable how?
Thirty years at most of a life of conflict and danger, dreams full of nightmares and the knowledge that the taint is sitting inside your veins, just waiting to overtake you isn't much of a life. Not everyone is capable of dealing with that certainty.

As for Alistair, I've always felt that leaving him a warden was the best choice. As king, he will be as trapped by duty as much as he was as a templar novice. As a warden, he can make his own way, become his own man. He has a an honorable profession, albeit quite grim, and he has choices. It seems to "fit" better as was stated previously.
This.
I have the impression he is simply happier this way. I mean he even thanks you for not making him king when "hardened". Also I love to give Eamon the finger way too much to let slip this opportunity. So Warden Alistair is my favorite ending in DA:O and how I see his future and role in the DA-world. I found his (brief) Warden cameo quite badass as well.
100% agree here. The reason I didn't have a King Alistair save is I just can't bring myself to put him on the throne. I'm going to do it, though, while I wait for the patch...

Which do you prefer? I have save games of DAO with both. I thought King Alistair would be the best for Fereldan. I thought he would be better than Anora. But when I met both King Alistair and Warden Alistair...I don't know...I just thought Warden Alistair was more "right". It seemed like Warden Alistair leading the battle suited him better than diplomatic appearances.
What are your thoughts?
He seems kinda badass as a Warden and is potrayed as such. His Warden Cameo was much cooler than his King Cameo imo.. But I'm still having him remain as king.. I mean the people of ferelden rebelled and sacrificed their lives to have a Therin on the throne.. I will not make their sacrifice for nothing =D.
Plus he is the rightful king and the people think his a hero and according to Aveline Everybody loves the guy.. Probably save for some nobles who Zevran will eventually take care of for him =)

Though I like King Alistair, my preference is Warden Alistair.
Ive made him king but I see no point in it since David Gaider has said he will NEVER have any children with anybody (with the exception of the OGB)

Sparing Loghain and marrying hardened Alistair to Anora seems to be the option for Ferelden. The king and queen are beloved by the people and Loghain can work to redeem himself as a fellow Grey Warden.
That's the ultimate ending for me at least. Not to mention, it's the best punishment for Loghain (no matter how much i love him). He gets turned into a Grey Warden, a group that he distrusts/hates, and he gets sent to Orlais. He has to deal with the very country he hates beyond all else, but i'm sure he is causing all sorts of "accidents" there.
Random Warden: I heard a group of chevaliers got killed in the allys yesterday. Who could do such a thing?
Loghain:

The man DOESN'T WANT TO BE KING, so I can't bring myself to force him. It's not much better than slavery in that situation. And anyway, he just tries to duck his kingly responsibilities every chance he can get if crowned (just like his brother and father before him), so might as well crown someone who freaking wants it. Anora is experienced, competent and popular, she actually wants to rule and she genuinely has Fereldan's best interests at heart, so I say go nuts. Loghain needs to pay for his crimes, so there you have it.
Everyone is happy. Alistair gets to stay with the Wardens like he wants, Anora gets to rule Fereldan like she wants, Fereldan gets an able ruler like they want (blood is over-rated), and Loghain pays for his crimes like (relatives of) his victims want. It all works out.

My preference for a Warden Alistair may also be somewhat due to the fact that probably my biggest DA fantasy is to have a point in one of the games where everyone who's a Warden in your games gets together in one place. Imagine a scene with, say, Alistair, Oghren, Bethany, Sigrun, Nathaniel, and Stroud. Or for that matter Loghain, Oghren, Carver, Velanna, and Stroud. It's just epic, and I want it.

Plus, by making him King, I don't have to listen to Anora's godawful battle speech. (God, it's like nails on a chalkboard.)

I don't know. Him getting executed at the Landsmeet and the tarnishing of his legend seems pretty appropriate to me.
