It seems clear to me that the Devs want the Architect to survive and start to help the Darkspawn become sentient. (Since all three of the generic save transports have him surviving). Now we have the Nathaniel quest in DA2 and he states that the Architect's Darkspawn are now the Warden's allies in the Deep Roads which makes it seem like both sides have come to and understanding and are now willing to help one another. I realise that there are still plenty of none converted DS thar are running around the roads but its only a matter of time until all DS have gained sentience and are no longer mindless monsters trying to find the Old Gods.
So here is the questions I have. If the DS in the next game have all gained sentience and are no longer interested in the Old Gods and have been working with the Grey Wardens for all that time... what exactly is the Role of the Darkspawn and Grey Wardens in this new world? If the threat of a Blight is gone than what are the Wardens guarding against? What are they suppose to do? What will the DS do now that they are free and apparently have the ability to work side by side with other races? Will they want to continue working with the other races or might they want to be left alone to make their own future (Like the Geth in ME)?
So let's talk about what these two major players in the Lore of Dragon Age are going to do with themselves now that both of their 'Destined roles' have gone out the window.
I could see the Wardens becoming something along the lines of ambassadors between the DS and the other races of Thedas.
Darkspawn/Grey Warden's future role.

I have no idea. I have never allowed the Architect to live, and have yet to see Nathaniel in any of my games (used imports). So I haven't actually played this.
However, surely not all sentient DS (If we assume such a thing) are on the same page, right? See the Mother. So there'd still be rogue elements to kill, and 2 more Archidemons to destroy.

If I'm not mistaken you only get the Nathaniel quest if the Architect lives... perhaps we are to assume if the Wardens don't have the Architect DS to back them up they are over ran and killed in the Roads?
While we're discussing that quest its clear that his DS and the Wardens are both fighting the non-converted DS so I would also guess that they are both makings sure another Mother happens. Sort of like a Templar/Mage situation if the DS becomes sentient than they can join the group if they go crazy like the Mother they are put down. As for the Archdemons since the Architect sees the Old Gods as a harmful influence over his people I think he would be in favor of helping the Wardens search the Roads for the last two and killing them before they can be tainted.

I really don't think the world will care if the darkspawn are sentient. All you have to do is look and see how they reproduce unless the Architect has a new way for them to do it.
