Completing the game without meeting Isabella...

On my first playthrough of Dragon Age II, I never met Isabella in The Hanged Man. I don't know if she just didn't appear there or I never went into the Hanged Man at the right time...But there was no chance to find her after The Deep Roads :<

In fact I completed the whole playthrough without her and was pretty confused when the Qunari said they weren't leaving until they retrieved their relic and it gave me no option to find the relic (so no matter what choices I chose, the Qunari quest couldn't end peacefully. I really had no idea what they were talking about and just assumed I missed reading some blurb somwhere...)
I didn't even realize I was missing a character until my friend was watching me play one day and asked where she was...At this point I was near the end of the game.

They still showed her picture in the animated cutscene at the end even though my character never met her once through the whole game (I was a female rogue class. I don't know if that might have something to do with it?)

Did it happen to anyone else? D:>
On my second playthrough I realise I've missed out on A LOT of side quests and funny dialogue...

Yeah, the only companions you are forced to pick up is Aveline, Anders and Varric. The rest you could completely gloss by without meeting them actually.

That was a big fault in the game. A real possiblity that you miss out on a major character.

n Merril... but I don't understand how vital she is to the plot except to summon Flemeth...

It actually confuses me how Isabella could be missed on accident though. I mean, she ALWAYS shows up at the Hanged Man when I go back to talk to Varric after picking up Anders. >.> So she seems kind of like Merrill to me in that you encounter he as the plot goes on.
But maybe that's just me.
Glad I got her, my games would suck without her (she's basically my favorite rogue).

Pretty sure A New Home was part of the new quest line. So I forgot her in that list of who you do get. But I also recruit her early anyway. Too many broody people. Need some kindness everyonce in a while. That is what merrill is for.

She's one of the best parts of the game. They really need to improve that in the next game to make sure you know when characters are available to recruit because I missed Fenris my first time through.

Isabela only shows up to be recruited AT NIGHT after recruiting Anders. For more common Isabela questions, I suggest clicking the FAQ link in my sig.

Isabela and Fenris do not matter to the plot so they are optional characters. If you want them, then do all the quests.

I think it's fine that you can miss some of the companions.

Yeah. After I dismissed Anders from the group and he said he'd leave the city, there was still a cutscene where he's sitting back in the Hanged Man chatting with Varric.

Unless you want to get the relic back to the Arishok. Then I'd say she's important to the player.

The only thing I'm disappointed about is that the ambrosia could only be picked up through her companion quests...I don't feel like I've missed out on too much but another play through might be worthwhile to catch the party banter.

The outcome is nearly the same. Unless you hand her over, you still have the duel.

I'm in act 2; can I still find isabella ? I've not seen hair nor hide of her....

i guess not; i quickly entered act 3 and that was the end... weird never saw head or tail of her. Only reason I knew of her was that shops were selling armor enhancements for her....

Although this thread has cobwebs on it...

Should you do another playthrough, you need to finish your recruitment of Anders (in Act 1), then go to the Hanged Man at night. You should then see the cutscene that will introduce Isabela. You can then choose to meet her later in Hightown for her recruitment quest.

She can only be recruited in Act 1, and only after recruiting Anders.

Don't know if this is a platform specific issue, but I have met her during the day as well.

Ok thanks. I'm not done with act3 but will try a second play through. To be honest despite the really bad reviews I think this game is not so bad; just the crummy reuse of mazes get kind of old. Probably what happened is that i failed to go to hangman at night (btw I'm on the pc if that matters). I did recruite anders pretty early.

There was at least one other person I failed to recruite -  do you know how to get them ? (I have fenris, anders, merille, alevine and vervic). I only realized I failed to recruite people because shops was selling them upgrade armor.

I guess that's another bug (as you can tell i'm playing without any sort of cheat or walkthrough; but this game i easy enough that it is really hard to get stumped; well i guess that's another issue besides not enough mazes; no puzzles).

I think you're only missing Sebastian. You won't actually fully recruit him until Act 2, but you have to fulfill a quest for him in Act 1. You'll need to go to the Chanter's Board (in front of the Hightown Chantry) during the day to trigger a cut scene. Then inspect the board to find a quest missive. Once you finish the quest, you'll meet up with him within the Chantry for a brief conversation. I don't recall if there are any timing issues or prerequisites to initiating that initial cutscene (as with Isabela).

In Act 2, he can be found again in the Chantry, at which time, you could take on his next quest and add him to the party, if memory serves.

I actually don't really understand how this could have happened, unless the OP and others just didn't bother to ever go talk to Varric. After completing Tranquility (which is required), you get a quest to go talk to Varric. The moment you step into The Hanged Man the scene with Isabela starts. After it plays out you then have the option of going over to talk to her or not, but I fail to see how one could miss her entirely.

But that's the thing I did talk to verric; my guess is that it wasn't at night... or there is some other non obvious thing that prvents the trigger (Im playing  a femal thief if that matters). Btw I rarely use verric because in this play I handle the lock picking; next play through I'll use veric more and drop aveline (I guess I'll play a warrior).

There are also other things you miss if you don't visit HM at night: the secret rendezvous quest and collecting the bounties from the friend.

Werid; i checked my quest log and I did those quests. Hum. My standard group 99% of the game was merill, anders, and aveline; I wonder if there is some other trigger or anti-trigger point for isabella.

I find missing Isabella quite easy. if I do not go to the hanged man the same night I help Anders in the Chantry, she never shows on any other night
