Set party or rotating?

When it comes to your party, do you have a set group that you stick with or do you switch it around? I keep wanting to switch to open up more banter, but always end up coming back to Varric, Fenris and Anders. Mainly because I can't bring myself to leave Varric out (my Hawke just feels lonely running around without her trusty dwarf), plus I like having Anders to heal and Fenris to distract the foes from the three ranged fighters (my Hawke is a mage). Once I get used to fighting with a certain group I have a hard time adjusting to other constellations.

At some point I'll do a second playthrough to try some different choices, and then I guess I'll use a different party... though Varric would probably still end up having a spot.

Merrill no matter what, and the other positions rotated based on quest needs, whether I'd heard their banter or not, and whether I needed somebody to lockpick. I would usually have Fenris around too, because I liked annoying him.

I try and keep a set party as much as I can.

I rotate everyone. Except Fenris who I just can't stand. Isabela is probably in the most of everyone but I switch followers frequently.

Once I've gotten everyone high enough in rivalry or friendship I usually stick to one party setup. The exception being quests that I think would be more interesting with certain companions along.

On my first playthrough, I just brought along anyone who seemed like they would have something to contribute to the particular quest I was doing.

On subsequent playthroughs, 2H Warrior/Archer/Merrill/Anders is pretty much the mandatory setup for me. Merrill and Anders are just ridiculously overpowered, and I like spamming Martyr repeatedly and laughing while my group has 100% uptime on haste.

At times it's more about who gets friendship/rivalry on a mission. Who has dialogue I enjoy and so on. If I was just going on the companion banters I like? I'd say Isabela, Varric & Merrill in a heart beat. The broody boys are okay I guess and Fenris is handy for a quest or two. Varric always comes with me for Act of Mercy as insurance.

I like to keep Varrick around 90% of the time because, well... he's Varrick and he is writing your biography :P Other constant no matter the playthroughs is Fenris, because i like his character too much, and find him a lot more useful than Aveline. (Second is just a particularity of a preferred playstyle). 3rd spot goes to whomever, though I did like having Anders around more so than others.

That said, swapping companions out is worth it just to hear their banters.
Isabella and Aveline ones are priceless, Varrick and Merril has some very sweet ones, as does Varrick and Fenris. Hell, Varrick + anyone = hilarity :).

Isabella and Aveline crack my ass up. <3

I try to rotate, but I often find myself settling in on Fenris/Anders/Sebastian (or Varric) towards the end. I am rewarded for this with the cattiest banter ever written between Fenris and Anders.

The man-harem is always with my mage: Fenris, Anders and Sebastian.

With a few exceptions, my current Hawke's LI no matter what (usually Isabela or Merrill). The other two slots are rotated. In Act 1, Bethany/Carver is the one always in the party.

I tend to rotate almost non-stop, it depends what kind of mood i'm in.

Fenris Isabela and Varric for comical stuff.
Mage Mage Rogue Warrior for big fights.
Quest related companions pop in from time to time.
Sometimes i just shove Sebastian in for the sake of it.
Sometimes i just like to stop and stare at Varric's chest hair.

Many reasons.. Many changes.

Last run I stuck with Varric, Fenris and Anders until after Justice. Then my Hawke decided Anders was too unstable and took Merrill instead. I've promised myself next run she's in all the time. Hilarious. "I'm going to taunt you in elven now."

I always change out my party. Everyone has something to say, why limit yourself? Plus it's no use taking the same characters when others could use the friendship/rivalry points.

I always want to rotate, but I just find it hard to rotate out the elves. I pretty much always have Merrill and Fenris with me. :3

I ALWAYS have Fenris in my party because aside from being my favorite character, he's a great damage-dealer and tank. The only time I didn't have him was for the Deep Roads Expedition because I wanted Bethany to become a Grey Warden instead of going to the Circle.

The other two slots are rotated between Varric, Sebastian, Anders, and Aveline.

Oh, and sometimes I'll change my party between quests depending on if I know the choices I make in the quest will raise friendship with certain companions...

Part of me loves having rogues in the group for the kill counting banter. If my sarcastic hawke is alone without any other rogues? Well at one point Hawke was like "Am I the only one counting?"

I tend to have a "core group" that I consider the meat and bones of my makeup, but I tend to switch characters out situationally. I did a lot better with using everyone than I ever did in Origins.

Depends on the class I'm playing as.
As a warrior, I always had Isabella and Anders in the party and I'd switch between Fenris and Merrill depending on who I felt like bringing along at the time.
As a mage, I used Isabella and Fenris all the time and switched between Anders and Merrill.
As a rogue, I'm doing a little more party switching. Fenris and Anders tend to have priority and either Merrill or Avaline though sometimes I take Isabella along anyway just because I like her.
I NEVER use Sebastian, in fact, I plan to ignore him altogether in future playthroughs.

I'm actually doing less party-switching as a rogue.

On my warrior, it was me, Merrill, Aveline, and Isabela most of the time (until the whole Isabela slows you down thing came up... found myself taking Varric more often then). But, sometimes I'd take Anders instead of a rogue, sometimes I'd take Fenris instead of Aveline, sometimes I'd take anyone else instead of a warrior. Everyone saw some action.

But on my rogue, it's me, Merrill, Anders, and Aveline (though, I just picked up Fenris and I'm speccing him as a cunning tank, so he'll likely replace Aveline), with almost no variation.

It can also depend on difficulty. I did a full group of rogues on casual for a quest. Was kind of amusing. 2 melee and 2 ranged rogues.

2 duelists leaping about and having fun while Varric and Sebastian were doing their thing.

It was on casual just because I wanted to see how their combat dialogue would go. Rogues are so playful. Don't even need a tank or a healer on casual.

Both. My party usually consists of Varric, Isabela, and Merrill. Plus Carver/Bethany when they're available. But it depends as I rotate frequently.

When I was running a mage, it was DPS mage, Anders, Varric, Aveline/Fenris. Now that I'm running a 2H warrior, dunno. It will probably wind up being him, Anders, Merrill (DPS build), and Varric. I do like to rotate the characters, but that's mostly when I'm shopping or doing their quests.

Bethany was a pretty permanent fixture in my adventures until she was taken away. Everyone else is flexible. I look at the mission and consider who might be good for it. I keep Avalene away from anything unlawful I might be up too, using Fenris instead. Varric finds his way along a lot because who can resist the chest hair? And I'm unusually fond of Merrill's lightening spells even if she doesn't like me much. I can't stand Anders so he's last resort or mission necessary. It's a pity too because I liked him a lot in DA:A. Emo Anders is a no go.
