As many are no doubt aware, Varric was unable to come up with a good nickname for Aveline during the course of DA2's story.  Given that Varric was able to come up with such clever names as Sunshine, Rivani, Daisy, and Blondie, it seems appropriate that Aveline should herself be given an appropriate monicker.

Now I know that Aveline herself was curious as to why Varric never gave he a satisfactory nickname, Red of course being too common.  So I figure, as I type this before going to bed, that I would correct this issue.  From now on, I propose that should Varric ever encounter Aveline in future installments of DA2, that her nickname shall be "Freckles".

Now yes, Aveline's likely response to Varric proposing such a nickname would be to tear out his chest hairs and feed them to him.  However, my suggestion is not without cause, as  I surely am not the only one to have noticed the lovely array of freckles sprinkled across Aveline's face and upper arms.

Therefore, I hope that when Bioware's writing team conjures up the next adventure for everyone's favorite flame-haired lady of war, that they find a way to crown her with the name "Freckles".

Vaseline, in my opinion.

Short, sweet, and to the point.

I can't think of any possible nickname for her aside from simply 'Captain'.

Beaten to the punch, I see.

Oh man. Varric would be running for his life from the Free Marches if he called Aveline "Freckles".

He'd end up in Par Vollen.
Not because he ran, that's how far Aveline would punch him.

Isabela actually gives her a nickname. She constantly called her 'big girl.'

Varric would wake up with a dagger in his gut.

I'm pretty sure I recall someone (Isabella maybe?) calling Aveline "freckles" at one point.

Honestly, I think Varric probably doesn't give Aveline a nickname because she the Captain of the Guard, and is a serious sort.

The thing about Aveline not having a nickname is the joke unfortunately. There isn't a nickname Varric could give her without getting punched.
Varric's nicknames are based on a character trait that seems at least partly obvious to the audience. Like Merril's goodnatured elf status winning her daisy. Or Carver, being the younger (and the worst of the two) Hawke, getting called little Hawke.
And then you have to include Aveline's nature, where she basically stomps on anyone who insults her OR the guards in anyway. This automatically takes out half of all nicknames anyone could give her. Aveline, when it comes to nicknames, isn't that easy to work with.

I was not much of an Isabella fan my first time through but have romanced her in the second with my female Hawke and thus taken her along on several quests and the banter between her and Aveline is brilliant. I particularly like Avelines comments when Iasbella and my female Hawke decided to indulge in some nocturnal activities with a certain Antivan Assassin: "Oh, I think I just vomited a little bit in my mouth" Image IPB

Captain Boring, she's too serious and boring to get a nickname, there's nothing really endearing about her that jumps out. My vote would be for "Cappy" so that Varric's kinda belittling her serious job while at the same time showing affection for her personally.
