Still, the background on the left is totally bland.

I know it's a hill, but there's no realistic sky behind it or grass or rock or trees or shadows or anything.  That's why I say it's bland.

Some screenshots I made...
Settings used: Directx11, Very High, AAx2,AFx2,High Resolution Textures, High Quality Bloor, ... etc
Images made with Fraps as in .png format using 1920x1200 resolution.
Some mods: Isabela and Aveline faces, no gear requirements, glowing eyes.

The skies and background scenery are very bland, indeed.

One thing I really like about the Dragon Age graphics is the way you can see the models in full 3D.  You can pause the game and see from all angles.  Even the dust and blood spatter.

I like that too and their pause thing existed since NWN I believe.

I sort of like the sky in Dragon Age 2.. but it surely lacks vegetation and just minor objects.

That looks no better than DX10 on my computer. I'm thinking this DX11 thing is bull. There probably is no DX11, just a program that looks for it and then unlocked an arbitrary graphics setting option that, in reality, changes nothing whatsoever. From those screenshots I see no reason why I would need DX11 to change the settings to high or very high.

You absolutely COULD buy DAO then.

I have said from day 1 what an utterly terrible direction they took the art style in and it shows. Dragon Age Origins graphical qualities and art style are head and shoulders over this. Its as if I played Crysis and then played Runescape in terms of bar dropping.

Anyone else find it funny that Romantiq´s screenshots, despite highest settings and all, look like utter sh!t?

That is indeed the problem of the console market. And I don't mean that as a console hater remark, but as a simple hardware fact.

They partly admitted to that by telling that the hardly populated areas are due to console constraints. Same goes for the overall graphic quality.

I don't disagree. Art style and detalization looks very weak in my opinion and I will even dare to say - LAZY.
The things I liked are the faces and facial emotions. I didn't like beards and hair because they look out of place, fake. Some faces were produced lazilly, such as Alistair, Teagan, Zevran, and repeating npcs that look very much like your default mother and sister. I also liked some armor models such as Ser Isaak, Grey Warden armor, Champion's.

I never really looked much at graphics in BioWare games (because I trusted them to deliver an epic story and RP expirience) until now, since they upped the price for their PC releases to $59.99.

These are just for comparison purposes. Take a look at their detalization, vegetation, light, and overall graphics.

It's too early to say of course. But.....
So here comes the question. Why $59.99 (+another ~$40 for continuation of story from DLC)  if I could buy Witcher 2 for $44.99? The graphics already put DA2 to shame and I have no doubt that the story will be great.

Also, before you start calling me a Witcher fanboy etc....I love both games but the direction Dragon Age is going to is not good.

I am planning to buy The Witcher 2.

Also DX11 on DA2 is utter crap. Besides massive frame rate drop, lack of tessellation, it looks no better than the DX9/10.

No for a DX11 game, go check out the FPS/RPG STALKER: Call Of Pripyat, its from 2009, russian title iirc. But I have DX11 high setting, everything on max, and the game runs an average frame rate of 58 for me. DA2 everything up, lucky to get 30.

They probably didn't even care about optimizing it for PC much. I don't notice any improvement over Dx10 when I switch to 11.

Funny how their Lowtown concept art looked somewhat more promising though.

Do you have an Nvidea card?  I get an average of around 50 fps maxed out in DX11 with my HD6870.

Yes, and you should get 300 fps, since half npc models have pre-2000-era poligon count and textures, the locations are completely sterile on details, and there is totally nothing there to justify the load on gpu (then again, the tests say da2 uses only 20% or so of gpu resources, its just terribly optimized).

The game is more CPU intensive than GPU intensive. For those reasons you listed, I guess.

Well, I have intel core i5-2400 (4 cores, 3.1ghz) - which is probably enough to run 5x da2 quality level games at the same time, yet it doesn't help much.

STALKER with the complete mods still look amazing in directx9 or 10

i think the best example of Directx11 atm is Metro 2033 which runs better in Dx11 and fully uses tesselation

as for DA2, i don't even have a card that supports Dx11 so i'm stuck with dragonagenexus texture mods, despite that i enjoy the sharpness of this game vs. DAO which has a weird blurry AA effect or ME2 which can be a little ugly sometimes due UE3, back to DA2 the art design is too cut & paste in Kirkwall but areas like the wounded coast really are just butt ugly while Sundermount is a little better but still suffers from cut & paste

the witcher 2 looks amazing for an rpg tho... easily blows away any other rpg this year in graphics, my comp is fairly new but it only meets minimum specs which is pretty cool for an rpg to be pushing graphics like this
