Yes Gamlen shouldn't have pissed the family fortune away, but he wouldn't be the first or the last to do that. I didn't think he was such a huge unforgivable sinner for some mistake that was really sadly cliche for humans.

And to be fair, Leandra was gone for 25 years! In today's world, how long would it take for someone to be gone before you can legally declare them as assumed to be dead (I *think* it's 7 years), especially if they're in a wartorn region and the likelihood of death is high? If they are legally assumed to be dead, then their property, including inherited property, would go to the next of kin, as if the person (Leandra) had died intestate (without a will). So Gamlen might even have a case that all the property became his, EXCEPT he started disposing of it when he was still supposed to have been waiting for Leandra.

I was surprised that she was all like, "LET'S GO FIND THE WILL IT WILL SOLVE ALL OUR PROBLEMS OH EM GEE" I was like really? That's your plan? Okay...but of course the writers had it work, so good for her I guess.

You can't declare someone assumed to be dead when they're maintaining contact, and there's every indication that Leandra regularly wrote to Gamlen and he wrote back, he just didn't tell her a few important details.

Also as far as I can tell the whole 'find the will' thing was irrelevant. Varric said that Hawke *bought* a mansion in Hightown, which suggests that Leandra's appeal to the Viscount was a failure.

Well I don't think Gamlen is like the best person in the world, but he is not even NEARLY the craziest, the most idiotic, or the most evil person that Hawke has come across over the course of the game, in my opinion.

I just don't think Leandra should expect to turn her back on her family and life in Kirkwall for 25 years, and then upon her return have everything be exactly the way they should be as if she never left...

No, sorry! gamlen used everything left to Mother for his own gain, he didn't want any of them in his durty hole, My hawk had to work for a year to paid for getting in a city that should have been her second home, and after all that he asked mother to work.. I say, put him in a hole and let it dry.
But aside all that what really made me feel angry towards him was, he made Mother believe her parents hate her. Everything has a limit.

I also wish we had this option. Yes, he starts off as kind of a ****, but he really becomes pretty cool starting with All That Remains to his awesome quest w/ Charade.

Also, my Hawke is always looking out for the family, and if I can find it in my heart to appreciate Carver, who is far less enjoyable most of the game, then I can find it in my heart to invite Gamlen to leave his slum to live in Hightown like a real member of the family.

I say the reason why I wouldn't want to have Gamlin in MY HOME is because of two reasons. 1: He disses my dog. No one should diss my dog. 2: I bet he would hate Sandol.

"Not enchantment!"~Sandol.

while I will say the option to offer should be there...

I'll also say who cares..it's HIS fault the mansion was lost. He gambled away property and money that was NOT his.

screw him, he's not getting into my house. I'm not coming home one day to find him selling out sections of it or finding things missing because of his debts (think about those letters you keep getting)

Since he loves spending all the little bit of coin he has in the Blooming Rose every damn day. Why should I let him live in my Estate or even have any of my hard earned coin. He lost everything he had before. He shouldn't get it back. He deserves no pity. He had nothing but cruelty in his heart it seemed. He only buckled when he realized the person (his sister) that he screwed out of everything was there in Kirkwall and not going away. Even after he got them in cause of guilt. He continued to hate and lie.

Didn't Gamlen live at the brothel?

EDIT:  Didn't see Torax's post.

I think he was always there every time I'd go there in all acts. Clicking on him after the mother died was something like the only place for him to a decent drink. At least I don't remember the Madame ever saying he had a room ready. Gamlen did admit at the start to spending the money on women and things in Act 1. At least he also said how he wasn't proud of it lol...

I'm thinking that Gamlen probably didn't blow all the money immediately.  He spent a good deal of it on trying to find the gem and when Charade's mother left him, he started pissing away all that remained on various things until there was nothing left.

After Leandra died, I really wanted to invite him to live in the mansion. Hawke wanted some family around her. She'd had them with her all her life, so to be left all alone would be too much.

Frankly, I'm assuming with the Champion's mysterious departure, Gamlen was allowed by Hawke to live in the estate so long as he doesn't lose the title and fortune another time. Or he's just living there, but Charade is pulling the strings on the money flow so Gamlen doesn't try anything.

Interesting idea, but most of my Hawke's would have left the estate to Varric, knowing he could look after it through all his fake relatives like the Tethras businesses. Which could be another reason for Cassandra dragging Varric to the estate instead of "interrogating" him at the Hanged Man.

I would have liked the option to invite Gamlen to live at the estate after Leandra died. Even if it wouldn't always be taken it would be a good option.

My Hawke lived with Anders by then, and Gamlen only blamed her for mom's death and otherwise was being a douche.
Although, well, I agree that it's strange that there is no option...

Varric was being interrogated somewhere else. I don't think it was the Hawke Estate. If it was, that's pretty awesome.

Was the "not enchantment" a crystal statue or just frozen?

Stand right here - hold your arm out just a little more - perfect!    Sandle casts "Not Enchantment"

Sandle we are going to be rich!!!

Thank you op, I was saying that the entire time in the game.

He isn't the best, but he still tolerated us in his house for a year. And after Leandra died, there is just no excuse to leave him alone like that.

Hawke annoys me sometimes.

Is it bad that I felt more sympathy for Gamlen than anyone else in my family?

Not really.

I think you have more interaction with Gamlen then the rest of your family combined.

nope..considering Gamlen has more interaction and character development then any other family member.

Gamlen you actually see some development...esp when you do the quests about his daughter...can make you sympathise some at least...or at least see a "softer" side to him that makes him not look like a total ass.

the rest of your family, sadly including your mom, you're just TOLD you care about them without actually being given a reason to.
